my hamsters mated, had six babies and they always slept together plus they never fight it was so cute the couple slept side by side and the babies slept with them
@Aldrich1527 The best age for female would be 4-10 months. Sometimes 3 months old can be big enough to breed, but better to wait for 4 months. Males can be used about 4-18 months.
Breeding can last about 30 minutes, on even an hour, but you can separate them sooner, if the male starts to look tired, all the female starts to move around more.

@Elvenin Females should only be mated 4-6 months, even 8 months but that's pushing it. 10 months is far too old to be breeding with. Males can be mated as soon as they are sexually mature in theory but it is preferred to only do so when they are passed their Juvenile stage, stocky and healthy which is anywhere between 3 months to a year.
@lacrimahamstery Yes if it's females first time, 10 months would be to much. But not if its second or third litter. And it's individuals. Some hamsters get really bad shape even after small litter, so I never use those ones again. But some have huge litters with no problems. You just have to know your own hamster.
@Elvenin I guess I just prefer to stick to the rule of thumb, seeing as only 2-3 litters should be done per hamster and each litter should be 2-3 months apart for her body to rejuvenate healthily. You are right about it depending on the Hamster as I have had litters where the Dam was too stressed to ever do it again - however I never go passed 8 months in age even if they are only their second litter.

@MegaWalker13 Are you sure they dont fight at night, when your not looking? I think you should get them their own cages. Because even if they dont fight today, they might start any day. Young hamsters might live happily together, but when they get older, they want to be alone. Weird animals... And if they are female and male, they will have too many babies, female will die.
