  • @numba1netsfan oh yes sir i am more than aware of this. but, you failed to see my point. the 4g63 found in the evo is actually a stronger and more durable 4g63 than those found in the eagle talon and the eclipse of some models. yes the "4g63" may be the same but thats about as far as it goes. with an evo your not going to be tearing a rear end apart by launching at 6k rpm's. my comment was merely a joke. i have a close friend with a gst eclipse. it may not be my style but it is a nice ride.

  • @Camg3591 I've cut a few 1.5 60' and gone 10.6 @ 140mph on a stock t-case and rear end with 166k miles on my 92 eagle talon. Never broke a drivetrain part yet in the 4 years I have owned it most of the time in which it has been 500+whp.

  • @ls1maro99 damn i was gonna comment on that post under ya..im gonna validate ur sayin by a too have a AWD talon on a 6262 and have launched it at 6500 and never broke anything..the evo drive train is actually weaker than the evo..the weakes part on the evo is the center diff,they tend to blow apart at a 2-step launch at 6500 and a carbon fiber clutch..in not trollin im jus also addin my comment cuz i have done it also

  • @ls1maro99 you got me there i guess. because one of two things are at play here. 1. you are the only guy ive met who takes proper care of his car. or 2. you got very lucky on getting a talon that wasnt molested before you got it. guessing the first one. the friend i was talking about with the gst has a cousin i know has went through im thinking 3 transfer cases. i also met a few guys in my area that said they went through a few. if im wrong, im sorry, i was just kidding around. pure boredom.

  • @Camg3591 gst is a fwd they don't have a transfer case. Yes I did search around quite a bit before picking one up. These cars are cheap to get a hold of and a lot of people don't know what there doing and thats how dsm's get a bad name. My buddy daily's his 91 awd talon that has made 512whp and ran a best of 10.7 @ 135mph. Out of the four years I have had mine it has left me stranded only twice and for the dumbest reasons,

    1) Probably just hitting rev limiter a couple times, the 'dirty' sound you hear is the external wastegate opening at full boost.

    2) Lots of turbo cars run rich in boost. either this car wasnt fully tuned or it was tuned a bit rich to be conservative and you're just seeing the extra fuel burned in the exhaust. I had my talon tuned for a 10.5 A/F ratio to be conservative and it'd smoke in boost too.

    1) It wasn't the rev limiter because in first gear he took the RPM's higher than when the stuttering started in second. Also, I know what an open downpipe sounds like. I didn't ask about that.

    2) It was white smoke not black, and it was coming from the engine bay not the exhaust. Even with a cut-out it wouldn't have looked like that.

I even past a few that couldn't go up a hill because of no 4wd. I'm sold on dsm I can drive my car in the snow, rain, even off road with 20 pounds of boost and hook up great. Can your F-body do that ????? lol

It just a fact that these 2 cylinder to 4 cylinder cars just don't have the engine tones too ever sound imposing, or interesting. Oh you can make them fast as shit, no doubt, but they STILL sound like crap. There is not a single import owner that if possible; wouldn't trade in their cars engine notes for those of an American V8, I doubt even one. Not the car mind you, thats personal, but the SOUND? no question!

    Also, I have some ebay stuff on my Talon, so do a lot of DSMers for their dailies. Some of these products (Intercoolers mostly) are pretty good for the price, but I would never trust an ebay turbo, that's why we have Extremepsi lol.

    As for the 420A eclipse comment, there are A LOT of those cars with potential. Some of them on stock internals with an ebay turbo kit, tuning, other supporting mods have pulled mid 12s.

  • That's fine. Put it up against a turbo big block to be fair & eliminate the N/A vs turbo debate. I was just giving the advantage to the 2.0. It's not matching an equally built 1500-2000+HP 7 liter. Obviously it's easier/cheaper to fully build the smaller motor to outrun a less built larger motor than it is to build the larger motor to the same extremes as the smaller 2.0, but if you do build it that way, it wins.

    And not to mention reliability.

    You can have a fast fully built turbo 427 all day.

    but putting that beast on the line is another story.

    The torque in a 427t would shatter the drive line the second its launched unless its replaced. and even then you still can't be sure that it wont shatter.

    let alone all the other things that could happen.

    But on paper, 427turbo all the way.

  • @mikeytfot1 , I don't know, that 2300HP F.I. N/A 892ci built by Nelson, that's been running a whole year hasn't broken any shafts., it's equal or better than a built turbo 427, & twice as big. It hooks & launches without smoking the wheels most of the time, obviously it doesn't hook sometimes. On the street it's obviously screwed for traction, but even at that, it's still a 6 sec willy's coupe, & a street legal car at that. Don't get me wrong, I understand what your saying about breaking shafts

A stock dsm tranny will take 400ft/lbs all day. That is in no way weak. So they will take 500hp about. Learn some shit before you speak again.

As for me being stupid when it comes to DSM's you might wanna remember I build these trannies for a living and buy and sell these cars all day long. I am no noobie to these cars. I have a 900HP 9 second talon and a 600hp DD. Please don't try and reply back with some other idiotic response.

  • Well if it is money than that would most likely be me. I am not fighting with you it is the other way around. You think they break all the time and in the 6 years I have had my 91 AWD the only thing that has broken is the remanufactured alternator that came with it. I swapped in a OEM one and have never had a problem with it. Same goes for my 95 but the rear O2 sensor crapped out. Now I will be the more mature person and leave this "argument" at that.

  • HAHAH your a fucking retard, a stock DSM will never beat a camaro, when my car was mostly stock, 14b, fuel upgrades, exhaust, intake, and a boost controller I beat my buddies LS1 camaro by at least .5 seconds in the 1/4. You know nothing about DSM's. They are the worlds fastest 4 cylinder and the worlds fastest full wieght AWD car at a 7.9 second, hes going for low 7's or 6's next season.
