Good theory. The fossile signal seems most likely. A probe NOT in the vicinity of it's parent star (hence the reason SETI hasn't found the signal again in that area). A last powered 'gasp' of an advanced interstellar probe... who knows?
But even as a bonafide UFO skeptic, the WOW signal always made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up a bit.
Life could be so far away we'll never meet it. I mean all we've proved so far is we cannot travel to the nearest Star in a single life time. We'll probably never be able to travel to find other life for the whole future of the Human race and the way things are going I don't want us to, I'm ashamed of our race. If Aliens are visiting, they would be so advanced they could do so without us detecting them. Radio waves travel too slow to even bother with.....
weather this sound means anything or not if you dont believe their is "life" out their u are just and idiot......also mabey we are arrogant to believe that we could understand what "life" may be in another solar system! all we know is life on earth ,mabey its in front of ua and we dont see it
@jacer187 you are really on to something :] keep going the direction your mind is taking you! you are very very correct! so many humans just don't see it! but guess what? there are some that can :P if you keep your mind open the way it is, I am sure you will be one of the lucky few that can, and will communicate with them :D just don't shut them out!
not a scientist but are they looking for light based communications to or sending out laser light signals to good candidate regions. this may be slightly beyond our technology but it needs to be considered......................answer please? does light based communication degrade in intergalatic space?
Yes unfortunately light does get dimmer in space over enough distance, but this may not be a very precise way of finding alien life, there is a type of neutron star called a pulsar which seems to flicker on and off which could bring lots of confusion for astronomers.
@sebulia1 I dont know, but if it was intelligent, I doub it was directed intentionally at us.I mean the last com from a probe before it dies out? or a signal from a vessel to another vessel, or a fossile signal from another civ? There can be lots of explanations artifical or not. But our radio waves will still travel the universe when our sun becomes a red giant. So I go for the fossile signal. Why we didnt catch it again? IMO it was luck, and our tech limitations do the rest.
@r3dsan Seriously, don't make fun of people who believe in god. Affirming that god does not exist is being a retard because there is no evidence that there is, nor evidence that there isn't, so we just have to keep wondering about it until we find the answer, which is NEVER. Of course stories about God like Adam and Eve were proved wrong by science, so until such time when science presents proof that god doesn't exist, which it hasn't done so far, we can't be sure
dude, you're an embarrassment to atheists, you think you're so smart to know the "truth", but does not have intelligence enough to respect the beliefs of others.
But completely ignores the social and psychological context from other people.
@r3dsan - Quote "haha, do you believe in god? :D are you a child? and let me guess, you believe in santa claus too :D:D haha retard"
Ahh, the mentality of an Atheist who gets his philosophical views from family guy and other cartoons. Yes the millions of adult Christians in the world don't exist. You are well informed my friend. Also what a great person you are using the hardships of mentally disabled people in a childish attempt to belittle someone who has something intelligent to say.
This could be alien comms but people can deny it, should their be a voice signal that's clearly a voice and not anything else, then there's no denying it, it can be confirmed we are not alone in the universe.
@TrueScot100 I'm afraid this doesn't prove 'god' doesn't exist. You also do not understand the idea of 'god'. What your comment does prove, however, is that you are clearly a very stupid person. lol
@TrueScot100 How does it disprove God? With your logic every time your phone gets a text message it proves their is no God. Why not have the fact I take a crap every morning at 8 am as proof God doesn't exist. Walmart is selling skateboards, it proves there is no God. There is no connection. What are you like 9 years old?
@dekoomers That is actually false ;] they have told humans many things before! but so much of the human population shuts out extraterrestrials that their communication is only clear to a very small number of people, and these people are always deemed as crazy for it! but they are in fact communicating ;]
i dont understand as to why they havent made contact with us already? something really big is behind all this something we cant even grasp in our minds...are we just an ant farm to them where they just sitback and observe us? if theres anyone that has some good opinions id like to hear them just to hear what others have to say on this matter
@darklordsinawa It could be that they were no more advance than we are at the time the signal reached us, and they've either moved on since the signal took too long to respond or they simply were not interested in us. They also could be a race that has seen many other species come and go, so seeing "just another race" wouldn't interest them at all, and the signal we got from them wasn't intentional. There's too many possibilities to list.
The device known as the big ear was not capeable of storing the type of data offered by this liar. It recorded only average signal intensity, The intesity was averaged over a period of 10 seconds and a single datapoint was generated for that signal segment, and represented by a single letter or number on a chart recorder. Can't make audio from 6 letters printed on paper!
@pullalot1 The signal was a narrowband radio signal detected by Dr. Jerry Ehman while working on a SETI project at the Big Ear radio telescope. It lasted for the full 72-second but has not been detected again. It has been the subject of significant media attention.Amazed at how closely the signal was Ehman circled the signal on the printout and wrote the comment "Wow!" on its side. This comment became the name of the signal. Wikipedia :)
If you decode the signal. You can clearly understand that it's a message from Darth Vader to the Emperor about a surprise birthday party for Carl down in the sector 6 of the Death Star. The star wars galaxy lies beyond the Sagittarius constellation. So its not even from the milky way. The signal has been traveling for a long time from a galaxy far far away.
@AtomicWrangler86 Nothing better than chill out for the most denied cientific fact of the past century with a marginal youtuber joke. People voted for your comment because they find hard to understand what this signal represents
@AtomicWrangler86 In fact.. if you really play with this track (not original signal) you can clearly hear its a (i think) police transmition.. Just speed up a lot this track
I hope everyone realizes this is fake. There is no recording of the Wow! Signal because no one even heard it. The person using it wasn't present. He knew of the signal from the printout; there was also no output recording device at the time. This sound is definitely not the real Wow! Signal
@zeldaultimateplayer that did not occur to me at all that the background noise in the video is the sound. you are underestimating people's intelligence too much. you're not the only smart guy here. dumbass.
@forinner I never said I was the only smart guy, and I don't think I am. I was just stating that, in the Big Ear website, it says that no one ever heard the signal, and that it wasn't recorded. So I don't understand how can this be the Wow! Signal. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but I don't see evidence that this is the original Wow! Signal
@AtomicWrangler86 Well yes I know but it seems highly unlikely that this printout would give an actual audio representation of the signal. First, as I understand it, the printout only shows the intensity of the signal, which tells us NOTHING about the actual signal. I don't think that the printout gives any information on modulation. And also, the printout has far too little data to give 1:15 minutes of audio.
@TornSlayer97 Does this sound natural to you? Obviously this is made by something intelligent. It sounds like a code of some kind. It's either man-made or extraterrestrial.
The pulses are too uneven to be something of natural origin.
If this is a radio frequency response to our own transmissions, how does a signal that we have been sending for only 50 years reach a location 200 light years away and get a response?
Humans should send some encoded message back. It may be a response to one of our transmissions to outer space... maybe the Arecibo Message. People from the METI really should send a message back to the location of this one!
The space between the sagitarius, and Serpens Cauda constellations is where these 2 similar types of seti signals are very similar with a carrier wave with an in, and out of the signals. There may have been a bending of signals may have occured from the wow signal, and place the orign closer to the SHGd26+c signal.
Seti big test was always looking for possible signals from deep space that would repeated because the wow signal location is wrong.
@markohorn101 I was replying to all the people who think the sci-fi sounding audio on this video is the actual wow signal, which it isn't. So read what other people write fully before YOU make yourself look like a total idiot again!
@GDAE4 Ok, all I'm saying is there was no audio recording produced from the signal which some seem to think there was. It would have been great if there had been but what was recorded was 6EQUJ5 on a printout. I think the WOW signal was perhaps our best hint yet of other intelligent life, considering that when all is said and done they could not rule that out as an explanation for the signal. But they were not able to re detect it. To sum up the noise in this video is not the WoW signal itself.
This is a clearly organized sound file. Weather it's from another planet or put together by an engineer earth-side, I'll never know. But obviously from it's timing and precision, it's a musical arrangement (a message).
The odds of intelligent life NOT existing anywhere else in the Universe right now exceeds by several orders of magnitude the possible number of star systems that could potentially support intelligent life. There are some 120 billion galaxies in the observable Universe, each potentially containing, say, a million systems suitable for life. That's still far less than the number of systems that would statistically be needed for the improbable chain of events that lead to life to happen twice.
What IS the "number of systems that would statistically be needed for life to happen twice"?
According to this news article, it seems that DNA just rains from the skies, and could happen at any planet capable of life. timeDOTcom/time/health/article/0,8599,2087758,00.html
@TheMagicDragon19 The fact that something happened once does not make it any more probable that it will happen again. And in this particular case we rely on very dodgy statistics: a sample of one. We only know that life emerged here on Earth. The molecules needed for life can be arranged in an infinite number of variations but life as we know it is only possible with a single variation. Do the maths. And read Fred Hoyle and Paul Davies.
If you put an eletric current through the correct 'soup' of elements, scientists can already form adenine and amino acids in laboratories by simulating these conditions. It's not life, but it proves that it's quite probable to be out there.
@Yelkwood9 True, that was a famous experiment, but the real problem is that nobody has the foggiest idea about how life emerged from that soup. That soup was very, very far from being life. And the molecules needed to kickstart life as we know it can be arranged in an infinite number of variations, but for life as we know it to become possible they must be arranged just in one particular way - exactly how they are here on Earth. So the chances for this to happen are infinite to one.
@PhysiologicAli I'd say there will be quite a bit out there, but that's just a guess no one can know for sure till we find evidence. I don't think there's any reason to be afraid though since so far we've been given no reason to be... I'd reckon they might think the same thing as you - whats out there? I'd love to know there were others but I'll leave meeting them to someone braver than me lol :-)
@BeautyWorldwild we are not alone... the number of stars and galaxies make it impossible.. there has to be at least one other civilization out there.. if not in our galaxy then in one of the billions and billions and billions of other galaxies
@bubbalover71 I meant, thinking that we might be alone for sure. I dont know why I said that because I never thought we were alone, never ever. I was saying the possibility of us being alone is scary. That's not what I believe though.
we humans have asked ourselves for so long if we are alone in the universe. i believe it is all very possible . the WOW signal just makes my thirst for the answer to that question even more vast. i want that question answered. dont you? this signal could be alien beings far more advanced than us or it could be something else. all of this is in the realm of possibility. think about it. thumbs up if you agree.
so cool that after all these years no one knows the true origin or what this signal means, sends a tingle down my spine if you think about it too long. WHAT IS OUT THERE??
so i as an musiscian couldn't help but think, that could you put this sound a couple of octaves up, and get a new sound, just like when i sample? I did that with the wow signal. be ready to get your hopes down! check my channel and look for the the wow signal "DONT PANIC" button;D
I'm still wondering what to make of the "declassified" NSA "extraterrestrial communications" documents that are still online, I smell some MAJOR disinfo going on around all this stuff coming out, and other countries as well, the mainstream media hasn't touched it with a 10 ft pole...cilypudi
it has all the markings for a real alien transmit, then we here but why was it sent only once, why did we send our messages out only once?It could have been a planet bound civilization in the M-55 Galaxy or about.Maybe a call between two star ships passing by the M-55 area of sky.All I can say is WOW!!!
our alien friends know we're here? or are they just looking for life themselves as well just like us.. yet we managed to record there signal.. it saddens me.. our alien friends live so far. :( atleast they're trying to communicate with us too..
Is this the signal that was picked up in the 80s or the 90s i forgot the year, and satellites all over the world pitched in on the same frequency and a signal was confirmed. This was on the papers/news in its days. was also on BBC
i think it was an alien doing a double shift that nodded off at a console and accidentally hit the button that says 'transmit'. It obviously woke up and noticed in time to turn it off before it got fired............... thats my theory anyway :)
I am curious to see the entire page (or so) of the original "WOW" signal. Is there anywhere to get even just a transcribed data file or some such? :-? Pls message me privately if you wish, I don't mind, but I'll look here & the comments section of my channel for responses. Thanks. :-)
@Frog89mad The reason why they are almost sure that the signal isn't from our own planet was that both the length of the signal (72 seconds) and the first rising and than fading intensity corresponds to the expected pattern for a signal of extraterrestrial origin. Think the change that a source from earth created that same pattern would be very small.. :P
I wonder how long did it take for that signal to reach us? Could it have really been sent into space by an extraterrestrial civilization? If it was, does that civilization still exist? Why did it disappear so abruptly? So many questions, so little time to find answers.
The signal came from a star system about 200 light years away so it would have taken 200 years or so to get to us.
Scientists have postulated that it was an alien flying his ship, trying to get some traffic information. Depending on that traffic, he's probably still up there now, trying to get home and wishing he'd left five minutes earlier in order to avoid rush hour.
anyone who thinks that aliens dont exist is a moron. take a look at the size of the galaxy! what makes you think we are the only forms of life out there!
@MrCharlietoma wouldnt it be from 100m years ago, seeing as radiowaves travel at the speed of light :P just messing with you, but thats an interesting thought. makes you wonder, if that was from 100m years ago, how advanced are they now? are they already on their way? have they already met other intelligent life?
If it is a signal from an alien civilization then it was probably just a random radio signal that we happen to be lucky enough to detect and not something that was intentionally aimed at us in order to communicate with us.
Then again, it could have been intentional? Perhaps they used this signal in order to see how we'd react to a signal of possible extraterrestrial origin?
..so all those aliens are using radio weaves to communicate , i guess since thats what we are expecting ^^ ..there is no way they are actually using lasers , neutrinos or any other form of energy which could be used for communication by far advanced civilizations ??? SETI is a useless program... rather use the money for moon Europa mission.
i'll guess it's a passing mother ship the size of Ceres that sent that signal. How ever they pointed in the same direction again, where it ordinated and its gone. I believe, it takes light years for it to reach to the right destination to order to restive "signals" By now the mother ship is gone, never heard from again. We are fortunate to restive a signal from a civilization 200, billion light years ahead of us or more.
Like this signal:))

And sending a return signal is not a good idea when you know nothing of the origin...
What if you attract the equivalent of 19th century colonial powers?

Humans should send some encoded message back. It may be a response to one of our transmissions to outer space... maybe the Arecibo Message. People from the METI really should send a message back to the location of this one!

The space between the sagitarius, and Serpens Cauda constellations is where these 2 similar types of seti signals are very similar with a carrier wave with an in, and out of the signals. There may have been a bending of signals may have occured from the wow signal, and place the orign closer to the SHGd26+c signal.
Seti big test was always looking for possible signals from deep space that would repeated because the wow signal location is wrong.

MCPOCHRIS021 2 months ago
@MCPOCHRIS021
Anything that has a frequency can activate a loudspeaker, thus be made audible.
GDAE4 2 months ago
@GDAE4 Ok, all I'm saying is there was no audio recording produced from the signal which some seem to think there was. It would have been great if there had been but what was recorded was 6EQUJ5 on a printout. I think the WOW signal was perhaps our best hint yet of other intelligent life, considering that when all is said and done they could not rule that out as an explanation for the signal. But they were not able to re detect it. To sum up the noise in this video is not the WoW signal itself.

@istvanklein
What IS the "number of systems that would statistically be needed for life to happen twice"?
According to this news article, it seems that DNA just rains from the skies, and could happen at any planet capable of life. timeDOTcom/time/health/article/0,8599,2087758,00.html
batukhan 6 months ago
@istvanklein What the fuck makes you think that? If life happened here you're very arrogant to think that it can't happen anywhere else.
TheMagicDragon19 6 months ago
@TheMagicDragon19 The fact that something happened once does not make it any more probable that it will happen again. And in this particular case we rely on very dodgy statistics: a sample of one. We only know that life emerged here on Earth. The molecules needed for life can be arranged in an infinite number of variations but life as we know it is only possible with a single variation. Do the maths. And read Fred Hoyle and Paul Davies.
istvanklein 6 months ago
@istvanklein
If you put an eletric current through the correct 'soup' of elements, scientists can already form adenine and amino acids in laboratories by simulating these conditions. It's not life, but it proves that it's quite probable to be out there.
Yelkwood9 6 months ago
@Yelkwood9 True, that was a famous experiment, but the real problem is that nobody has the foggiest idea about how life emerged from that soup. That soup was very, very far from being life. And the molecules needed to kickstart life as we know it can be arranged in an infinite number of variations, but for life as we know it to become possible they must be arranged just in one particular way - exactly how they are here on Earth. So the chances for this to happen are infinite to one.
istvanklein 6 months ago
@istvanklein
Considering it only took 300 million years to occur on earth in ideal conditions, perhaps "infinite" is a bit of a stretch
Yelkwood9 6 months ago

Is this the signal that was picked up in the 80s or the 90s i forgot the year, and satellites all over the world pitched in on the same frequency and a signal was confirmed. This was on the papers/news in its days. was also on BBC

Which is why they pointed their satellites into a vast, (seemingly) empty part of space. To limit any kind of mistake such as this.
ColonelBatman 9 months ago
@Frog89mad The reason why they are almost sure that the signal isn't from our own planet was that both the length of the signal (72 seconds) and the first rising and than fading intensity corresponds to the expected pattern for a signal of extraterrestrial origin. Think the change that a source from earth created that same pattern would be very small.. :P

I wonder how long did it take for that signal to reach us? Could it have really been sent into space by an extraterrestrial civilization? If it was, does that civilization still exist? Why did it disappear so abruptly? So many questions, so little time to find answers.
tabibitosama 9 months ago
@tabibitosama
The signal came from a star system about 200 light years away so it would have taken 200 years or so to get to us.
Scientists have postulated that it was an alien flying his ship, trying to get some traffic information. Depending on that traffic, he's probably still up there now, trying to get home and wishing he'd left five minutes earlier in order to avoid rush hour.
whtukaII 9 months ago
Probably the signal was sent from a spaceship by alien while flying .
so nothing was found afterward
not even the signal was heard anymore.

DJBuckCallYo 11 months ago
If it is a signal from an alien civilization then it was probably just a random radio signal that we happen to be lucky enough to detect and not something that was intentionally aimed at us in order to communicate with us.
Then again, it could have been intentional? Perhaps they used this signal in order to see how we'd react to a signal of possible extraterrestrial origin?
toradrow777 11 months ago
..so all those aliens are using radio weaves to communicate , i guess since thats what we are expecting ^^ ..there is no way they are actually using lasers , neutrinos or any other form of energy which could be used for communication by far advanced civilizations ??? SETI is a useless program... rather use the money for moon Europa mission.

arizonamontana 11 months ago
i'll guess it's a passing mother ship the size of Ceres that sent that signal.
