Ideally I support the Condorcet method, but pragmatically, I think the best solution is to have an open primary with approval voting and then have a runoff between the top two candidates with the highest approval rating.
Did you hear about HB 240, a bill which would have implemented Approval Voting in New Hampshire. It failed, but its authors plan to try again in the future, having learned valuable lessons from this initial attempt.
The silver lining is that on the same day it failed, Dartmouth University's Student Assembly switched from IRV to Approval Voting!
