Somehow, the entire device is warped badly and the top screen is cracked. I can still turn it on, but even when i do, neither of the screens light up at all. What's worse is the serial number on the device is nowhere to be found, so the warranty is already void.
guys its really not tht hard, and i abused the crap out of the flat wire and my ds ended up working perfectly even though i treated the wire like crap, the only way you will break the wire is if you want to break it.just be careful and you should be done in no time
I tried to replace the case with a black one and during the process the flatwire tore in half.We did everything right but still it tore while we were attatching it to the mother board.I watched your video and saw that you screwed in the screws for the top screen at the end.Whereas we did it right after we assembled it.Does it make any difference? Please reply
i could do the same thing with the psp but ds is much harder cuz of the hings and the top screen but porps i am gonna post a vidoe me doing a psp in a week props
If under warranty it's $50 if out of warranty it's $75. They used to fix it for free at the beginning but now they charge you. Your best bet is to trade it in at gamestop.
hi, i have a ds lite and i dropped it on hardwood, so the corner where the light is broke. everything is still working but we have to duct tape the two sides to keep it todgether. is there a way to get a new case without buying the actual ds?
I hope to do the same with my pink DS lite. Except using a sweet custom shell from DealExtreme. They have limited edition DS Lite replica cases for about $30-40 a piece.
And you have not experienced problems with the official NDS cases? I find that kinda hard to believe.
Let me rephrase the question: Assuming that there are more users with Shock-cases than there are with official ones because they're cheaper and more popular, is there a noteworthily greater percentage of broken replacement jobs involving Shock-cases than there are involving official ones?
I would seriously question the assumption that there are more users with third party NDS lite cases. Although I would agree that most repair companies would favour these cases over the official NDS due to cost.
All I can tell you, that in the course of the many case replacements we do at Console Doctor (due the obvious problem with weakened hinges on the official cases) we find that they are far fewer problems when assembling using official NDS cases than when using 3rd party cases.
Alright, thanks for your reply. Though I would still say that *among* third party cases, Shock might still be your best bet.
Now I have recently bought a shock case and I'm trying to get this done as best prepared as I can. I have the tools, I will carefully put all tiny pieces into labelled boxes, I have two vids of a succesfull shell replacement, one detailed tutorial and images of where everything goes. (to be continued...)
... I have read many board posts of unsuccesful replacements and think I know what to pay attention to (especially the flatwire and the switches) and what can go wrong, and at least I have a bit of experience in building desktop PCs.
Do you have any tips on how I could minimize the risk of bricking my DS further?
Don't worry, you will not lose a customer by giving me some tips. If I had the money to get my DS repaired by someone who knows what they're doing, I would have done so. But unfortunatly, I don't. Especially if I had to send it overseas.
god damn it. I needed 3 hours to change my first broken case. And thats like 10-15 minutes he used in normal time

I would never advise buying non official NDS cases. They rarely go together properly, and can often damage your DS beyond repair.

What about the SHOCK cases?
SilentBeutlin 3 years ago
At Console Doctor, we have experienced problems with ALL third party cases, including Shock cases.
