I'm not surprised the battery fell out. You were doing some wicked aerobatics at some points during the flight. As others have pointed out, you may have been too close to the airport so it's kind of amazing you didn't trigger a military response considering how touchy the authorities are now even 10 years after 9/11. Did the firemen ask where you live so they could (ahem) talk to your parents......?? I wrote before. No need to write back. Any more epic flights since this one?

A few things - as other's have pointed out, I highly doubt you're allowed to fly in that park, given the close proximity to Laguardia Airport. Also, as it obvious, you're also flying directly over houses. You are VERY lucky that your plane did not hit a car in traffic and cause serious damage and injury, or his a house or pedestrian. Lastly, I own battery planes - it's not easy for a battery to fall out. And next time climb your own tree. You, sir, are bad for the hobby.

Although I know this is a two year old video I still have to point out that you were flying inside controlled airspace (5 miles radius from surface).You were flying between 700 to 1200 ft. At 5 min into the video you can see one of the helicopter operators about 200 ft away as you were diving. You were at his flight level or higher a few seconds before.Flying that high post 911 was not a smart idea.That's probably why you didn't fly off your AMA club otherwise they wouldn't let you.

Ave., diagonally across from PS 129, so I really enjoyed your video, never having seen any of that area from above. Where you watching the video realtime via a Monitor with Wireless Video Receiver as you were flying the plane? If so, were you getting video reception all the time, even when the RC plane went further away at the end? Where you actually able to "watch" the plane hit the tree on your Video Receiver Monitor and is that the reason why you were able to locate the plane? What's the Maximum Range your plane can handle, how far can you go, what plane model #/make setup did you had?

@yafilmDOTcom - No... I watch the plane fly with a fixed, onboard DV520T camera. The range is, well, as far as you can visually see the plane. Even when I flew too far away from me and had trouble figuring out what the plane was doing, I still have full control. After the battery fell out, I just watched the plane glide, until it got so low I lost sight of it, then I ran to me car a looked for it. The plane is a REACTOR by Great Planes.

While it may look like they are the same altitude, the real planes and MUCH higher than my RC plane. There is LaGuardia Airport nearby, but the planes are WAY higher, even as they come in for a landing!

Lol, first of all not even the same frequency bands. Secondly, interference doesn't cause a (real) airplane to lose control. Thirdly aircraft avionics systems are a lot more resistant to interference than most people think. Unless you were deliberately trying to jam a specific aviation radionavigation service, even then not much would happen, pilots have many other systems they can use to navigate. But even if they lost all systems, they can still fly visually is the visibility is good.

The only real concern about flying an RC aircraft near an airport or other aircraft traffic zone, aside from the fact that it is likely illegal, would be ingestion of the RC plane into an aircraft's engine.

How would I know all this? I work on aircraft avionics systems for a living.
