Cretien promised to eliminate the GST back before his first term. Back then we didn't have the ability to post that crap on youtube. Go ahead, believe what you want, I know what I saw.
All parties except the conservatives during this passed election wanted to instal the dreaded carbon taxes. Carbon taxes will no doubt lead to hundreds of thousands of people to be put on welfare or for the unfortunate sum, on the street. It would have ruined our economy and create monopolies for the companies that can afford them. Not only that we would see rates go up in any form of transportation service. Carbon taxes is the last thing you would want to implement on a struggling economy.
But he's right. Canada is number 33 in the world in peacekeeping. I don't support Ignatief, but he isn't less of a patriot because he sees a problem in his country and wants to fix it. It takes love to be disgusted. Because when you're disgusted it shows you had higher expectations. He is disgusted because he believes we are a greater nation.
LOLOLOL TheScruffyDawg hates American politics/government and likes the conservatives. UNEDUCATED, BRAINWASHED, HYPOCRITICAL, IGNORANT CHILD. LOLOLOLOLOL
HAHAHA. Again, adscam - MOSTLY civil servants. Sea King Helicopters? yeah his problem but so minute it's barely an issue...5.8 billion? Harper wanted 50billion to be spent on planes without ENGINES. wtf. GST? You're critisizing Liberals for GST? HA! If it was such a problem for the CONS, then why the hell didn't they take it away. You Hypocrite. And as for debt? THE CONS INHERITED A SURPLUS. 16 BILLION. they blew that within 3 years. and now theres huge deficit. Man, you suck at debating XD
@ssizzlejr but you also have to remember that the recession helped in creating a deficit. and to top that off the billions in dollars of bail outs and the "economic action plan" that they were forced to legislate because of pressure from the LIBERALS. so in any circumstance any government in the situation that they were in would run a deficit if they refused to cut programes or rais taxes... name me ONE first world nation that in 2009 had a structural deficit of 0?
LOL HILARIOUS attack ad. Conservatives using American style marketing and turning our Canandian identity into an American one is whats disgusting here. I bet you any money those comments came from when Harper was in power... because Harper is the one who ruined our rep. as peacekeepers and is stripping Canadians of their voice and identity and making us his own personal puppet to play with as he chooses. Stephen Harper - you are disgusting. My name is Rebecca, I am Canadian...and I am a Liberal.
@TheScruffyDawg LOLLOLOLO obviously you need to check again...Liberals are probably the smartest political party out there. 80% of Liberal supporters have a post secondary education. You think you're going to get me angry? You make me laugh. You honestly do sound like a good old conservative. UNEDUCATED and BRAINWASHED... I feel sorry for you. People like you, are disgusting.
@ssizzlejr your right you are smart but the thing is you use your smarts for scandals wasted money and the canadians are finally realizing that and now you got less than 35 seats so i feel sorry for you because if your a liberal your lifes going to be a disapointment, and hey no hard feelings just thoug id say it
@TheScruffyDawg youre talking about the adscam? yeah.. that was mostly civil servants who happened to be liberals....just saying. one scandal? thats all it took? take a good look at harper...scandal...after scandal...after scandal...shall i continue? millions at g8...and billions in debt...the largest in history? if you want to use money as your standpoint, im afraid thats just no argument.
@ssizzlejr ahha lol Liberals are so stupid, Im going to enjoy this, I'l just name Jean Chretien's scandals. First of obviously the Sponsorship Scandal that describes the Liberals perfectly, How bout the Sea King Helicopters or how bout your greedy goods and services tax? Or your fancy Grand-Mere Inn way to go on that one. How bout the APEC confrontation, you know you are a true asshole when you act like that. As for you the debt part thats clearly Chretien's and Martin's previous goverment.
@TheScruffyDawg the GST was implemented by the progressive CONSERVATIVE government of Brian Mulroney. But could you agree both parties are scandal plagued? i mean on the Liberal side you have add scam and Shawinigate. on the conservative side you have patronage issues (after saying there'd be an elected senate if the conservatives got into power......TWICE) and G8. and to top that off conservatives have failed constitutional packages and massive deficits to explain. so it's harder to defend them
@TheScruffyDawg and you think a party with 35 seats can't make a difference? well talk to the NDP see what they've accomplished... like you know state pensions, public health insurance, EI, fairer taxes etc...the list goes on and let's not forget the accomplishments of the conservatives when they had 21 seats they became a balanced voice between the populist Reform and the left leaning chretien government. that's why there are small parties because our parliamentary system needs balance.
@Gardenstatehomecomin Thats not at all what I was trying to point out but think about The Liberal Party Of Canada has been such a dominant force in the lives of Canadians because there ussaly in power, The NDP in my opinion is the knew Liberal Party Of Canada witch would be awesome. However I would like the Conservative's to stay in power. Anyways I wasn't trying to debate Liberal's making a comeback because they will, they just need a good centre leader.
@TheScruffyDawg " As for you the debt part thats clearly Chretien's and Martin's previous government" hmmm as i remember Mulroney yes that's right a CONSERVATIVE had the highest debt in the country upwards of around 581 billion dollars. THAT IS ALOT. now you are telling me a party that managed to have six straight balanced budgets actually grew the debt? as i recall the debt level was falling when martin was kicked out of around 340 billions of dollars. the debt has been going UP scince Harper.
@Gardenstatehomecomin How was chretiens government left leaning? They slashed government institutions and social programs all the while cutting or maintaining tax rates. He had a corporate businessman as his minister of finance, who happened to save our country from economic armageddon. So please explain yourself.
@TheScruffyDawg Trudeau was dumb? a constitutional law professor at mcgill? Micheal Iggnatieff was dumb? a professor at freaking HARVARD. by your spelling and often incoherent grammar i can tell you are probably not as educated as a "dumb Liberal"
@Gardenstatehomecomin Just because they happen to be professors doesn't mean they aren't immune to corruption or greed. Both of which seem to be fairly prevalent within the Liberal Party of Canada.
@BringYourBallsCanada did i say they were immune to greed? really? who is and as for corruption. to be able to hide it as long as Trudeau did and to make it look as if it was benefiting Canada takes a SMART MAN.
Hey ad voice, don't blame Ignatieff for the Liberal party. Why would anybody attempt to climb to the top if they didn't want to put in some change? Your logic is flawed.
Also, speaking historically, the Liberal party has had the most successful foreign policy. Do I think they're great at it? Nope. They're also the worst economic managers, but at least they have integrity and attack policy... not politicians.
He is absolutely right about the peacekeepers. We know have completely lost the good reputation that we used to have about our peacekeepers. The funding has been cut.
We also don't even know what he was talking about when he said that Canada was digusting, but knowing our latest political news, he was probably right.
@Courtcourtcourtsmith ..... umadbro? you just agreed with everything the video said, and then right afterward wrote "HORRIBLY VIDEO GET UR FACTS STRAIGHT" ??........
I think you know exactly what he meant. He agreed with Ignatieff that it was disgusting to see Canada's role as peacekeeper diminish, but he referred to this video as horrible because it deliberately portrayed his comments as being directed solely toward the Canadian people and the title of the video makes it sound like he's calling Canadians "disgusting", which he clearly never did.
It's also a horrible video because takes moral exception to the comment and at the end does an immediate 180 turn and calls Ignatieff "disgusting". It is the perfect example of what we all need LESS of in this country - ad hominem attack ads. Don't like Iggy? Fine. No big deal. Make an ad that criticizes his ideas and his voting record or whatever else that's relevant. Quote mining of the sort done in this ad is just childish and helps no one.
Er.. this would be an attack, if the information was false. However, it's all true. We have a bogus reputation as being "peace keepers". We used to be peace keepers but we've thrown it all away.
actually, for the last 40 years it was both the conservatives AND the liberals, so there's nothing wrong with what he said and he's not blaming the conservatives unlike what the commercial would have people believe
slander at it's funniest, and what he's said is totally true too
This is actually completely true. I'm canadian but I really prefer America (at least when I went there for vacation) and everyone here hates America for no reason and is snobby
This is one of the best videos made about Ignatiff, it shows shows who he really is, without any lies, none of this is made up, that's why Ignatiff should just leave and take responsibility for his words, which are offensive to Canada. If he want's everyone to stop trashing him, then maybe he should have thought about what he was saying before. I guess he never learned to think before you speak. Now everything he has said is reaching the surface, which is amazing
@watzup1521 Hey now, to take Devil's Advocate I'm as patriotic a Canadian as they come. Does that mean I necessarily have to be blind to anything that's the matter? No. By recognizing problems and slowly addressing them in this country we built the great nation that exists today. To just love everything and question nothing is to live in ignorance about this country and without bravery.
Looks like the Harpercrites are getting desperate, always the pathetic attack ads because they don't have anything positive to offer themselves except a bankrupt Canada because of following failed RepubliCON ideology and look at the US now!
Liberals... hahaha - that's a joke. They are Red Conservatives and Ignatiff is a Harper clone. When you start to destroy your own party members because you don't want to deal with green issues ,and you take someones rightful place( like Stephane Dion's) you will never make it as Prime Minister.Wait till your in gov. again and are holding Harpers hand.....
Helicopter cancellation cost $500 million dollars (with the death of 11 people, and $250millon cost to keep running outdated Sea Kings) so $750 Million Dollars
Sponsorship Scandal ...not 100% known
Swanigate... not 100% known
Cretien said he would eliminate the GST, and didn't
This is why I'm not Voting Liberal. It has nothing to do with Ignatieff, it has to do with the Liberal Party of Canada.
@BoredomCorner Yeah, only they also helped you with taxes, so you can prosper as an Individual this year. Remember when you vote this year the HST wasn't Harper's Idea. Harper's party brought you the TFSA and other tax benefits.
@walperstyle Chretien never said he'd eliminate it. He said he'd facilitate its replacement if something better showed itself. You try and find me a quote of him saying he'd outright eliminate the GST and I will stand corrected. Otherwise keep your false claims to yourself.
@metyzermanfan19 lol I just read your comment AFTER I had written my reply to the same person already.
You took the words right out of my mouth.Very well-said. I,myself,am actually NOT a Liberal, yet even I can say that The Liberals provided Canada with most if not all of our BEST PMs. Pierre Trudeau&Jean Chretien were the last 2 great PMs the Libs (& Canada) coughed up. Since then the Libs have drifted right-ward alarmingly quickly...ahhh the Trudeau days...and the 90's..nostalgia..I miss them
@walperstyle Chretien never said he would"eliminate the GST"..If you read The Red Book, the platform was to try to re-formulate/calculate the GST into a better& fairer tax..he actually did keep that promise & tried to negotiate with the provinces to go down that road, however apart from ONE Maritime province, the provinces decided to be stubborn&un-cooperative. The incorrect notion that he 'promised to eliminate the GST' was an untruth spread by the right-wing.
@walperstyle The LongGunRegistry(&ANY gun registry for that matter)is another thing. Gun control (ANY guns)is very important, and despite that, they ALLOWED the people to keep long guns..all they asked was that they at least register them so that we could at
@walperstyle least know where the guns in our society are as best as we can. They were saying "fine, you can have them, but please just register them at least".On top of illegal firearms we don't need even more untraceable weapons.I dont think being asked to just register them is unreasonable. They werent asked to give them up. They were just asked to please register them..what, it's asking too much that you just REGISTER the damn things? Come on...
@walperstyle And I'm not even a Liberal or supporter of The Liberal Party myself.
No party is perfectly flawless&completely free from bad apples, but even I, as someone who is NOT a supporter of the Liberals, will never deny the wonderful things that the LiberalParty has done for Canada throughout our history&existence. &just like any other party, they also have their really bad moments, but it will never take away from the tremendous good in my mind. I dont support them but I DO appreciate them.
Aren't the Liberals also running ads complaining that we're spending money on modern equipment like new fighter jets? Would that not imply they're against reestablishing us as a peacekeeping nation>
Anyone who believes in Politics is a fuctard. Its all a charade meant to distract us from whats really going on. Policiticans are puppets. They don't run Canada, the Bank of Canada does. Its a privately run company that masks itself as a Goverment agency. They own the national debt, therefore they own Canada, just like the bank owns your house. Look up fractional reserve banking. See whats really going on. We're all slaves. Harper is the least of our worries, and we need to take back control.
@theking1175 Hippie? You know its exactly clueless idiots like who know nothing that will write off a true comment as conspiracy or some sort of nonesense because they don't understand it. I'm anything but a hippie. I served in the PPCLI for 12 years, and did a degree in economics at UBC. You think fractional reserve banking is some sort of made up hippie ideology? Its historcally known as "usary", and its biggest scam in all history, and its not a theory, its in practice in Canada right now.
@theking1175 "Until the control of the issue of currency and credit is restored to government and recognized as its most conspicuous and sacred responsibility, all talk of sovereignty of Parliament and of democracy is idle and futile... Once a nation parts with control of its credit, it matters not who makes the nation's laws... Usury once in control will wreck any nation." That was written by William Lyon Mackenzie King... the back of our Canadian dollar bill? But hes probably a hippe too.
@theking1175 Ya... Ignatieff... the guy that missed 135 votes in the final session of the last Parliament — the worst record of any MP ever. Sounds like he's really interested in Canada. Vote liberal, and watch taxes increase. Why do you think they're calle "liberal" because thats their ideology. The spend and spend, and the money has to come from somewhere. Harpers no better though. I'm voting none of the above, or Libertarian if theres one in my area. They are a TRUE 100% Canadian party.
@upsdelivery Taxes might go up! Heavens no! Decreased hospital wait times, better education and lower tuition, better infrastructure and job creation resulting in a booming economy. How devilish! Honestly, I don't think Ignatieff will do any of the above because he's a pussy but your economic views are nothing but pseudoscience, right there with intelligent design and "global warming is a theory".
@Nateb123 I always wonder why things are the way they are, but its people like you that help put it into perspective and help me to realize why it is that a few greedy intellectuals rule the retarded masses. Fuck are you stupid. Time to cull the heard.
@upsdelivery Oh no! I voted for the lesser of many evils. It's all my fault that the world is the way it is. Please.
Maybe the world doesn't suit your ideal because you spend time bitching about it instead of creating it. It's easy to blame others but what have you done to change things? I work at the nation's prime think tank so my conscience is clear.
@Nateb123 You're clueless. It is your fault, because you contribute to it by not educating yourself on whats really happening. Infact you make it even worse by steering other people away by saying the truth is psuedoscience. I don't bitch because the world doesnt suit my ideals. I work on real change by working with the Libertarian party and helping to educate people every day. You think you're helping, but you're making it worse with you ignorance.
@upsdelivery “It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.” -Mark Twain
Such is the case with your "Libertarian" views
I know this sounds like a loaded question but I truly mean to make a factual psychological point with it, albeit a rhetorical one: Do you know why you're stupid? It's because you must choose between the arrogance of being too stupid to know you're stupid, or the humility of being too smart to think you're smart.
@Nateb123 This sounds like a self directed question, but I can answer it for you... yes you're stupid. People like you like to get all philosophical, but you miss the point when trying to make everything sound overly complex. Any problem can be solved with a common sense solution. It has nothing to do with self realization, humility or arrogance. Like a true politician, you steer people away from the point with your misdirections. I'm not saying I know everything, I just have common sense.
@upsdelivery Thanks for making me laugh by claiming I got "all philosophical" and using an argumentative approach that can be best summed up as "I'm like rubber and you're like glue". Although I was wondering what the whooshing sound was and clearly it was my points flying far above your head. Good times.
I agree with Ignatieff. Due to poor choices made by all past parties in power since the war on terror began, we're no longer a country deserving of much respect and, with Harper, we're riding that frightening ride to a violent and bitter end.
We're supposed to be peacekeepers yet we haven't done anything substantial in those areas for a long time and we could be of use now.
Instead we're becoming a sickly, aggressive nation.
Self-Criticism can be a good thing but in this case it was disgusting because he was entirely wrong and disrespecting the tremendous Peace Keeping out troupes do overseas.
At a time when Canadian soldiers are saving lives in Afghanistan. Not only Canadian lives from Islamic Murderers but ALSO saving lives keeping the peace for peaceful Afghan villagers being attacked by Taliban.
Anyways, I don't think Canada is ready to vote in this American John Kerry impersonator anyways.
As much as I can't stand Ignatieff, I agree with a lot of his older comments when he used to honestly express his opinions - before he became a political schmuck.
this guy even looks evil he is the biggest lying puppet master you ever seen in your life he pretends he is for Canada while pretending he is for America and running slur campaigns against Harper to get muslim votes...this guy will make Brian Mulrooney look like your fairy God mother!
@lucy9359 What the hells is the problem with muslim votes? Someone who believes in a religion other than yours is what? Lesser than you? Hardly. And as for being a "puppet master," would you rather he was the puppet itself? Watch Harper prove that he is just looking to the Americans to see what to say: watch?v=qtd7o9x5uN0
@azimuth457 it is not the muslim vote that I am conserned over it is the fact that he is a hypocrit, he is conning them to think he is for them but he is in vids on here with Bush praising Bush...and if your an imigrant to Canada you haven't been here long enough to know the liberal government is no better than Harper they have destroyed the social fabric of this nation handing out money in all sorts of situations that are totally wrong period!
@azimuth457 and if you believe your muslim religion then I suggest you do some googling because the liberal government while in office gave your tax dollars to fund sex change operations for inmates if you like to pay for things like that and drug clinics where no one is rehabilatated they are just given a drop in center where they shoot up without cops to catch them as they put it then go ahead and vote for them! I personally don't want my money going to that imorality! Harper scrapped it!
@lucy9359 I'm not Muslim, but two of my best friends are. Anyways, your first comment didn't make much sense; "...pretends he is for Canada while pretending he is for America..." First off, he's a Canadian. Living in the US doesn't change that. Are you saying that you'd consider yourself American if you lived in the States for months, years, or decades? I wouldn't. I'm not saying Ignatieff is the best man for the job, but it certainly isn't Harper. He's had his chance.
@azimuth457 I am against no people I am against a lying hypocrit and I am also against the liberal government to tax the majority of us for crazy fringe projects when we are already broke as a nation...I think Brian Mulrooney was the biggest crook this nation ever seen I haven't trusted a politician since but I am so tired of watching Canadians vote the liberals back in...I think I am going to rip up my card! I think we are going to see a civil uprising in this nation who ever gets in!!!!
@azimuth457 and the first comment the pretending he is for Canada he will sell us out to the Americans even before Harper and note I said before...Layton would he sell us out??? I don't know I just know that we are not heading for better times economically that is the mother of lies...the USA is on it's way down they were going to close the white house because they couldn't pay government workers including their military and we are being led to believe someone can change it??? what a sham!!!
@azimuth457 If Harper was an American citizen, lived most of his life in America, said he voted for and supported Bush, are you telling me you would not have a problem with this, hypothetically speaking ????
@yukoncornileus4 I didn't say that at all. My entire comment was referring to citizenship of Canada, it has nothing to do with Americans at all, just living somewhere else for an extended period of time. Please learn some reading comprehension and stop jumping to conclusions before responding next time.
Typical conservative slur. Taking half comments out of context and passing them off as fact. Like the so called ipod tax. Total fabrication. I guess when your record is as abysmal as the Tories, attcks are all you have left.
Am I supposed to vote for a guy that sees what is wrong with the country, or should I vote for the one who thinks everything is fine, and probably will not make any drastic improvements? I think the choice is obvious. Thanks for making me a Liberal!
@546046 There is a lot wrong with it. I'm not here to list off all the ways Canada can be improved. I'm not here to educate. Google should be able to do all of that for you.
@546046 You won't see anything if you don't look. Turning a blind eye is just the problem with electing someone like Harper, who has shown us these past years that he won't make any positive changes. Meanwhile, there's absolutely nothing wrong with not living in Canada. It doesn't change your heritage, and you can't so easily lose citizenship.
@azimuth457 It has nothing to do with either he lived in Canada or not, more on what he said about Canada,a and his feelings towards Canada. I was no born in Canada, and I have never said one bad thing about Canada, because I believe I live in an amazing country. From everything he has said about Canada one really does not get the impression that he respects Canada. yes he says he does now, but that is only to win the election.
@watzup1521 What he said? This commerical has basically extracted the worst of everything he's said to make it sound worse than it is. Ignatieff knows what is wrong with this country, unlike the ignorant people who claim Canada is perfect. We need a leader who knows what is wrong so that said problems can be fixed. At worst, he would at least be able to work towards fixing them, even if no permanent solutions arise for any problems within his term.
@watzup1521 I've heard what he has to say, and the deal is he respects what's worth respecting about someone, or something, if you listened to the video, he says canada USED to be peacekeepers with capabilities, and that they gave them away
this is actually part of what happened during the cold war with canada not deciding to get involved in it too much and demilitarizing because of it, nowadays though with the cold war over, we're not threatening nuclear armed soviets by having a good military
@guystoners Likewise, you missed my point. A good leader criticizes, as opposed to one who pretends everything is okay when it isn't. A good leader knows what needs to change.
As a proud Canadian studying international relations abroad, I too am disgusted at Canada's foreign policy. We have been trying to exert influence in the world using this reputation as peacekeepers for 50 years, without living up to it. Among the countries that contribute more peacekeeping troops than Canada: Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chile, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Fiji, France, and that's just as far as the F's.
that makes me want him in office. commercial fail.
and they couldn't even find an in-context quote? seriously? let's get some PR creativity in canadian election ads, please. that goes for all the parties...
Typical misleading conservative nonsense. Let's make sure that we only report what we want to, not what Mr. Ignatieff said.
Maybe Harper's directions are going out the window now that it has become public knowledge that his wife has left him...for her girlfriend. Who can blame her?
I think most people with a brain realize his 'disgusting' comment of Canada isn't completely justified and necessary... Canada is going downhill, especially in our so-called peace-keeping. We need criticism and change.

Yeah, & Harper made some comments about Canadians being proud of their social welfare state or some such nonsense. This mudslinging could go on all day. The point is, where do they stand now politically? As intelligent people I expect them to change their views & opinions, anything less would be a major red flag for me. At the end of the day just get out & vote for who you want & hope for the best. Maybe one day, if we're lucky, we'll actually get true democracy
wow conbot fail =D And he's right about "disgusting". Our country used to have a good international reputation for peacekeeping. But has now made itself an active aggressor by following uncle sam into Afghanistan and now leading the "peacekeeping" against Libya. What a joke you are to this country Harpo, and anyone who votes for you is a joke to intelligence and common sense too.
@SeverdSeouL lol what a funny remark, I guess you'd love to help ruin canada/pay for 'quebecs special needs'/ and support mob like mentality in canadian gov. oh yea, and vote in an american to manage canada.
@0bstinacy lol actually in case you didn't notice, because of Harpo, Canada is already ruined. Mob like mentality? Like what Harper does? Like closing out parliament to avoid getting no confidence voted out of office?. Please..I would rather have someone in power who lived in America and then came back, than someone who actively kisses American ass, sells out Canadian sovernty to American corporations and is a basically a self-servative sociopath.
@SeverdSeouL yea I guess you forgot what happened last time liberals were in charge. oh yea, and the fact they let quebec breast feed off the rest of canada. OH YEA, and they are joining powers with bloc quebecois and pretty might allow quebec to separate but have everyone still pay for them.
OH YEA, and the fact liberal went communism on us, people in their own party had a majority against different issues, and the pm threatened to fire those people if they didnt vote what he wanted
@0bstinacy The last time the Liberals were in power? You mean Martin? The guy was an absolute moron and did nothing Liberal or good for this country whatsoever, much like Harper. And I don't understand where you're getting all this Quebec nonsense from. Quebec is part of Canada and like it or not will always be part of Canada. They cannot survive without the rest of us, much like any other province. Communist? what in the world are you ragging on about? Do you even know what the term means?
@0bstinacy I love how the cons insist on socialism= evil this and communist that. Hate to break it to you pal but communism never really existed at all, as long as money is the system it can't exist, money makes people perpetually greedy. All so called communist countries are, infact, pure dictatorships. If anything, you should be more concerned about this country turning into our corporatist neighbor, which will soon be on the brink of fascism (if you remember the true meaning of that term).
@SeverdSeouL Socialists such as yourself do not understand communism, socialism or fascism. They are all forms of corrupt government which taxes the hell out of the people. Lenin himself made the statement that the only difference between socialism and communism is that the communists are in more of a hurry. To do what? The answer is to take total control. That's the long term plan. End of freedom. The left-right model is false.Government is necessary, but true freedom requires little of it.
@oldieschick6 You label me a socialist, but say I know nothing about socialism. Your logic is empowering indeed, I think you need a reality check. But then again Conservatives really have no idea what the word "conserve" means anyhow. Even the name "Progressive-Conservative" is an oxymoron in itself. And that says alot about intelligence when it comes to politics in todays world. But wait, let me guess, you're a Libertarian right? Since you but all faith into the "free" market-monetary system.
@SeverdSeouL The problem is you are fighting for the cause of the world elite and you don't even know it. Please do yourself a favor and read up on who Karl Marx is and who paid him to write his document. That is what I mean by you don't understand it. The form of government I believe in would be that of the original American Constitutional Republic. I highly recommend you read that document too. It is quite short. If there is anything in it you would disagree with I'd like to know.
@oldieschick6 Because under our current culture and value system, people need laws and government or there would just be plain chaos. Right now its only organized chaos, although getting worse. And I know who Karl Marx is, I don't need to read up on him, and frankly I don't care about him. But if you truly believe China is a communist country I think it is you who should be reading up. China is an autocratic dictatorship with the illusion of communism. As I said before, communism cannot exist.
@oldieschick6 Much like how in our system "freedom" is an illusion. Freedom only comes with the amount of money in your wallet, nothing less. If anything I am fighting against the elite who wish to keep the current paradigm afloat until it kills the last person on earth. And I have said before that I don't believe in politics, but the current economy we live in is actually not an "economy" at all, but an ANTI-economy. We word economize means to be efficient with little waste, quite opposite.
@oldieschick6 And I agree with you about them making us take part in the system, but how we treat each other is based entirely on the values of our society. If society taught us from the start that we are all equal as human beings, that there is no need to stab others in the back in order to survive, and that there are enough resources on this planet for everybody (there is)I am sure the majority of people would be happier. Humans are naturally a social species and require social interaction.
@oldieschick6 And I also understand the fact that we need industry to survive, but that industry needs to be efficient and it needs to manage resources accordingly. In its current state it is wasteful, inefficient and not sustainable whatsoever. If cost- efficiency played no part in the manufacture of goods, and instead resource management did, such goods would be made to benefit people, they would be durable, long lasting, and probably less harmful to our health and our environment.
@oldieschick6 In any case, if none of these points make any sense to you, then I suppose we should agree to disagree. But if you are interested try reading up on Resource-Based Economics, because sooner or later we are going to have to make a change. It could come soon, or it could come after the last drop of oil is consumed. Either way, you already know things wont last in the current situation, globalization or "turbo-capitalism" is the peak of the market-monetary system, but also the decline.
@oldieschick6 I hope you realize that if there is absolutely no government regulating the market system as it is, the world would literally turn into a zoo, which it mostly has already become due to corporatism. Infact it wouldn't be 1% owning 40% of wealth an resources, it would be more like 95%. Just so you know, I am not a socialist and I don't believe in any sort of -ism. But you are right about one thing: the left-right model is false, politics is a sham and democracy an illusion.
@SeverdSeouL LOL The Comex as an example, manipulates silver and gold prices by shorting the paper market and therefore makes winners and losers by their manipulation. How does that keep the world from being a zoo as you would say? China is a communist country and yet there are more billionaires in that country than the U.S. Did you know that? We need industry to produce the goods we all use daily. If you don't want the use of those products live on a secluded island & see how long you last.
@oldieschick6 Its actually not politics that is at fault for the way of the world. Its actually the current socio-economic system that you think is so perfect. Its broken and obsolete at its core. It has spawned materialistic greed, needless consumption and inequality that not only affects the poor alone, but everybody. Its called structural violence. There will never be freedom in this system, as long as our culture perpetuates the lie "Be nice to other people" but "Beat out the competition!"
@SeverdSeouL At no time did I say that the social-political or economic system is perfect, of course it is corrupt. That's my point, the government forces us to take part in a system that many of us want no part in both politically and economically. The choice we make as to how we treat one another is a separate issue. Everyone is free to treat others according to their own level of decency or lack of.
It is completely illogical to bash somebody for being able to look at themselves from the outside.
This statement is right on the money. Most Canadians are more than happy to bitch about American politics, and then so few of us give even half a care about our own politics in Ottawa.
So he's not allowed to criticize the Canadian government? That is.... interesting. If i ever say that Canada is living 5 years in the past technologically and then run for parliament in the future the conservatives will turn me into a boogyman?
@arabiancowofdeath, Conservatives are masters of taking things out of context. I would give an example, but then a neo-con could pick it apart, only quoting part of my example in his self-satisfied response
How dare he have valid criticisms of a party and then have the nerve to take action on those criticisms, become leader of the party and try to make things better for Canada. SHAME! SHAME! Oh, wait.... that actually sounds like the right thing to do. For the WRONG thing to do, see my videos on John Baird. Talk about disgusting....
A vote for Harper is a vote for an American if anything, LakeErieFising...Harper's the one who wanted to invade Iraq with the US over fictional 'weapons of mass destruction' and he was drooling to crawl into political bed with George W. Bush, the worst President in US history. Ignatieff has lived in the US happily and come home...just as people like William Shatner, Shania Twain, Neil Young, k.d. lang, Joni Mitchell, Megan Follows, Kim Cattrall, etc. do. Are you denying them all status as well?

A vote for this guy is a vote for an American. Iggy has said many times that he loves America and that the USA is his home. He will say whatever he needs to in order to make people like him. Having him as a prime minister would send the wrong message to the rest of the world. It would show that Canada has very little independance from the USA. If Michael Ignatiefff won the election, it would ruin Canadas patriotic reputation internationally.
Kudos to Michael Ignatieff for discussing some real issues....
What is DISCUSTING is this kind of attack add... This sort of defamation of character only reflects back on the people who spend their money, time and effort to produce this crap...
I think what Ignatieff says (or said for that matter) shouldn't be rejected and repudiated. We deserve a wake up call sometimes. I am tired of the Conservative party denying faults in their system and saying that it is "all right". That is the kind of attitude that infects complacency upon the Canadian peoples and prevents us from being the world changers that we can be.

Wow, take a whole bunch of things out of a speech and make a guy sounds bad. Yeah I'm not dumb enough to believe anything unless I've heard the speech. Sound clips don't cut it...
@lukafafrenz I don't have TV right now, so I don't watch commercials, instead I read news from various sources and watch things online. I like to get things in context regardless of who is saying them. Education is key.
@Xalver09 i would agree that education is key -- i truly believe that life is for learning (when we stop learning, we stop growing, and start dying) -- i commend you for avoiding hypocrisy also (however, commercials can be found online, as this post was)
I completely agree with Ignatieff. Kudos for actually being able to criticize and not be mindless media drones like Conservative party members. I fail to see how conservatives are defending peace when they actively want to spend billions in new jets to bomb third world nations so western corporations can steal their resources. Lybia is case and point. The Liberal's record is no better and kudos to Ignatieff for talking about that.
Watching this commercial has actually made me want to support Ignatieff even more. He isn't afraid to go against bullshit nationalist tendencies that permeates Canadian culture. I study political science, and HE IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about our peacekeeping record.
This is the kind of ridiculous commercial that you see Republicans make about Obama in the States. It relies upon the ignorance and mean spiritedness of it's target audience. Stuff like this doesn't belong in my country.
LOL! Conservative attack ads are RIDICULOUS! I guess thats what you have to resort to when you cant talk about the goods things your party has done while in power... Just find some obscure document and take quotes out of context.
i hate attack ads

Ignatieff is a hero- Don't shoot the messenger.
The world sees us as an accomplice to American hegemony.
America isn't even ready to attack Iran (who has attacked no one in over 100 years); but Harper says he's ready to send our kids to die.
We condemn Syria while Suncor courts their leaders.
How many disabled did Canada sterilize? Natives in jail for protesting? Killed by our religious schools?
How many lives are gone cause of Idiots who said "my country right or wrong"?

Harper just wants to make us Americans.

Man, you suck at debating XD
ssizzlejr 7 months ago

@TheScruffyDawg youre talking about the adscam? yeah.. that was mostly civil servants who happened to be liberals....just saying. one scandal? thats all it took? take a good look at harper...scandal...after scandal...after scandal...shall i continue? millions at g8...and billions in debt...the largest in history? if you want to use money as your standpoint, im afraid thats just no argument.
ssizzlejr 7 months ago
@ssizzlejr ahha lol Liberals are so stupid, Im going to enjoy this, I'l just name Jean Chretien's scandals. First of obviously the Sponsorship Scandal that describes the Liberals perfectly, How bout the Sea King Helicopters or how bout your greedy goods and services tax? Or your fancy Grand-Mere Inn way to go on that one. How bout the APEC confrontation, you know you are a true asshole when you act like that. As for you the debt part thats clearly Chretien's and Martin's previous goverment.
TheScruffyDawg 7 months ago
@TheScruffyDawg the GST was implemented by the progressive CONSERVATIVE government of Brian Mulroney. But could you agree both parties are scandal plagued? i mean on the Liberal side you have add scam and Shawinigate. on the conservative side you have patronage issues (after saying there'd be an elected senate if the conservatives got into power......TWICE) and G8. and to top that off conservatives have failed constitutional packages and massive deficits to explain. so it's harder to defend them
Gardenstatehomecomin 6 months ago
@TheScruffyDawg and you think a party with 35 seats can't make a difference? well talk to the NDP see what they've accomplished... like you know state pensions, public health insurance, EI, fairer taxes etc...the list goes on and let's not forget the accomplishments of the conservatives when they had 21 seats they became a balanced voice between the populist Reform and the left leaning chretien government. that's why there are small parties because our parliamentary system needs balance.
Gardenstatehomecomin 6 months ago
@Gardenstatehomecomin Thats not at all what I was trying to point out but think about The Liberal Party Of Canada has been such a dominant force in the lives of Canadians because there ussaly in power, The NDP in my opinion is the knew Liberal Party Of Canada witch would be awesome. However I would like the Conservative's to stay in power. Anyways I wasn't trying to debate Liberal's making a comeback because they will, they just need a good centre leader.
TheScruffyDawg 6 months ago
@TheScruffyDawg " As for you the debt part thats clearly Chretien's and Martin's previous government" hmmm as i remember Mulroney yes that's right a CONSERVATIVE had the highest debt in the country upwards of around 581 billion dollars. THAT IS ALOT. now you are telling me a party that managed to have six straight balanced budgets actually grew the debt? as i recall the debt level was falling when martin was kicked out of around 340 billions of dollars. the debt has been going UP scince Harper.
Gardenstatehomecomin 6 months ago
@Gardenstatehomecomin How was chretiens government left leaning? They slashed government institutions and social programs all the while cutting or maintaining tax rates. He had a corporate businessman as his minister of finance, who happened to save our country from economic armageddon. So please explain yourself.
metyzermanfan19 3 months ago
@TheScruffyDawg Trudeau was dumb? a constitutional law professor at mcgill? Micheal Iggnatieff was dumb? a professor at freaking HARVARD. by your spelling and often incoherent grammar i can tell you are probably not as educated as a "dumb Liberal"
Gardenstatehomecomin 6 months ago
@Gardenstatehomecomin Just because they happen to be professors doesn't mean they aren't immune to corruption or greed. Both of which seem to be fairly prevalent within the Liberal Party of Canada.
BringYourBallsCanada 6 months ago

@lZStarcraft
I think you know exactly what he meant. He agreed with Ignatieff that it was disgusting to see Canada's role as peacekeeper diminish, but he referred to this video as horrible because it deliberately portrayed his comments as being directed solely toward the Canadian people and the title of the video makes it sound like he's calling Canadians "disgusting", which he clearly never did.
icarus313 8 months ago
@lZStarcraft

Since then the Libs have drifted right-ward alarmingly quickly...ahhh the Trudeau days...and the 90's..nostalgia..I miss them
ammarios 2 months ago
@walperstyle Chretien never said he would"eliminate the GST"..If you read The Red Book, the platform was to try to re-formulate/calculate the GST into a better& fairer tax..he actually did keep that promise & tried to negotiate with the provinces to go down that road, however apart from ONE Maritime province, the provinces decided to be stubborn&un-cooperative. The incorrect notion that he 'promised to eliminate the GST' was an untruth spread by the right-wing.

Its a privately run company that masks itself as a Goverment agency. They own the national debt, therefore they own Canada, just like the bank owns your house. Look up fractional reserve banking.
Nateb123 9 months ago 2
@Nateb123 This sounds like a self directed question, but I can answer it for you... yes you're stupid. People like you like to get all philosophical, but you miss the point when trying to make everything sound overly complex. Any problem can be solved with a common sense solution. It has nothing to do with self realization, humility or arrogance. Like a true politician, you steer people away from the point with your misdirections. I'm not saying I know everything, I just have common sense.
upsdelivery 9 months ago
@upsdelivery Thanks for making me laugh by claiming I got "all philosophical" and using an argumentative approach that can be best summed up as "I'm like rubber and you're like glue".
Canada has no place for that.
Canada has no place for Harper.

Anyways, I don't think Canada is ready to vote in this American John Kerry impersonator anyways.

Pffaaaahahaha! That's the lamest, stupidest piece of partisan garbage I've seen in a long time.
Desperate. And insulting to the intelligence.
If you actually read the "embarassing" quotes, there's nothing there against Canada itself, but against certain government policies.
Love the way Conservatives like to portray disagreeing with the government AS BEING UNPATRIOTIC. :D

this guy even looks evil he is the biggest lying puppet master you ever seen in your life he pretends he is for Canada while pretending he is for America and running slur campaigns against Harper to get muslim votes...this guy will make Brian Mulrooney look like your fairy God mother!
lucy9359 9 months ago
@lucy9359 What the hells is the problem with muslim votes? Someone who believes in a religion other than yours is what? Lesser than you? Hardly. And as for being a "puppet master," would you rather he was the puppet itself? Watch Harper prove that he is just looking to the Americans to see what to say: watch?v=qtd7o9x5uN0
azimuth457 9 months ago
@azimuth457 it is not the muslim vote that I am conserned over it is the fact that he is a hypocrit, he is conning them to think he is for them but he is in vids on here with Bush praising Bush...and if your an imigrant to Canada you haven't been here long enough to know the liberal government is no better than Harper they have destroyed the social fabric of this nation handing out money in all sorts of situations that are totally wrong period!
lucy9359 9 months ago
@azimuth457 and if you believe your muslim religion then I suggest you do some googling because the liberal government while in office gave your tax dollars to fund sex change operations for inmates if you like to pay for things like that and drug clinics where no one is rehabilatated they are just given a drop in center where they shoot up without cops to catch them as they put it then go ahead and vote for them! I personally don't want my money going to that imorality! Harper scrapped it!
lucy9359 9 months ago
@lucy9359 I'm not Muslim, but two of my best friends are. Anyways, your first comment didn't make much sense; "...pretends he is for Canada while pretending he is for America..." First off, he's a Canadian. Living in the US doesn't change that. Are you saying that you'd consider yourself American if you lived in the States for months, years, or decades? I wouldn't. I'm not saying Ignatieff is the best man for the job, but it certainly isn't Harper. He's had his chance.
azimuth457 9 months ago
@azimuth457 I am against no people I am against a lying hypocrit and I am also against the liberal government to tax the majority of us for crazy fringe projects when we are already broke as a nation...I think Brian Mulrooney was the biggest crook this nation ever seen I haven't trusted a politician since but I am so tired of watching Canadians vote the liberals back in...I think I am going to rip up my card! I think we are going to see a civil uprising in this nation who ever gets in!!!!
lucy9359 9 months ago
@azimuth457 and the first comment the pretending he is for Canada he will sell us out to the Americans even before Harper and note I said before...Layton would he sell us out??? I don't know I just know that we are not heading for better times economically that is the mother of lies...the USA is on it's way down they were going to close the white house because they couldn't pay government workers including their military and we are being led to believe someone can change it??? what a sham!!!
lucy9359 9 months ago
@azimuth457 If Harper was an American citizen, lived most of his life in America, said he voted for and supported Bush, are you telling me you would not have a problem with this, hypothetically speaking ????
yukoncornileus4 9 months ago
@yukoncornileus4 I didn't say that at all. azimuth457 9 months ago
@azimuth457 Well frankly I don't see anything wrong with it.. plus ignatieff ditched us for however many years.
546046 9 months ago
@546046 You won't see anything if you don't look. Turning a blind eye is just the problem with electing someone like Harper, who has shown us these past years that he won't make any positive changes. Meanwhile, there's absolutely nothing wrong with not living in Canada. It doesn't change your heritage, and you can't so easily lose citizenship.
azimuth457 9 months ago
@azimuth457 It has nothing to do with either he lived in Canada or not, more on what he said about Canada,a and his feelings towards Canada. I was no born in Canada, and I have never said one bad thing about Canada, because I believe I live in an amazing country. From everything he has said about Canada one really does not get the impression that he respects Canada. yes he says he does now, but that is only to win the election.
watzup1521 9 months ago
@watzup1521 What he said? This commerical has basically extracted the worst of everything he's said to make it sound worse than it is. Ignatieff knows what is wrong with this country, unlike the ignorant people who claim Canada is perfect. We need a leader who knows what is wrong so that said problems can be fixed. At worst, he would at least be able to work towards fixing them, even if no permanent solutions arise for any problems within his term.
azimuth457 9 months ago
@watzup1521 I've heard what he has to say, and the deal is he respects what's worth respecting about someone, or something, if you listened to the video, he says canada USED to be peacekeepers with capabilities, and that they gave them away
this is actually part of what happened during the cold war with canada not deciding to get involved in it too much and demilitarizing because of it, nowadays though with the cold war over, we're not threatening nuclear armed soviets by having a good military

At the end of the day just get out & vote for who you want & hope for the best. Maybe one day, if we're lucky, we'll actually get true democracy

0bstinacy 9 months ago
@0bstinacy The last time the Liberals were in power? You mean Martin? The guy was an absolute moron and did nothing Liberal or good for this country whatsoever, much like Harper. And I don't understand where you're getting all this Quebec nonsense from. Quebec is part of Canada and like it or not will always be part of Canada. They cannot survive without the rest of us, much like any other province. Communist? what in the world are you ragging on about? Do you even know what the term means?
SeverdSeouL 9 months ago
@0bstinacy I love how the cons insist on socialism= evil this and communist that. Hate to break it to you pal but communism never really existed at all, as long as money is the system it can't exist, money makes people perpetually greedy. All so called communist countries are, infact, pure dictatorships. If anything, you should be more concerned about this country turning into our corporatist neighbor, which will soon be on the brink of fascism (if you remember the true meaning of that term).
SeverdSeouL 9 months ago
@SeverdSeouL Socialists such as yourself do not understand communism, socialism or fascism. They are all forms of corrupt government which taxes the hell out of the people. Lenin himself made the statement that the only difference between socialism and communism is that the communists are in more of a hurry. To do what? The answer is to take total control. That's the long term plan. End of freedom. The left-right model is false.Government is necessary, but true freedom requires little of it.
oldieschick6 9 months ago
@oldieschick6 You label me a socialist, but say I know nothing about socialism. Your logic is empowering indeed, I think you need a reality check. But then again Conservatives really have no idea what the word "conserve" means anyhow. Even the name "Progressive-Conservative" is an oxymoron in itself. And that says alot about intelligence when it comes to politics in todays world. But wait, let me guess, you're a Libertarian right? Since you but all faith into the "free" market-monetary system.
SeverdSeouL 9 months ago
@SeverdSeouL The problem is you are fighting for the cause of the world elite and you don't even know it. Please do yourself a favor and read up on who Karl Marx is and who paid him to write his document. That is what I mean by you don't understand it. The form of government I believe in would be that of the original American Constitutional Republic. I highly recommend you read that document too. It is quite short. If there is anything in it you would disagree with I'd like to know.
oldieschick6 9 months ago
@oldieschick6 Because under our current culture and value system, people need laws and government or there would just be plain chaos. Right now its only organized chaos, although getting worse. And I know who Karl Marx is, I don't need to read up on him, and frankly I don't care about him. But if you truly believe China is a communist country I think it is you who should be reading up. China is an autocratic dictatorship with the illusion of communism. As I said before, communism cannot exist.
SeverdSeouL 9 months ago
@oldieschick6 Much like how in our system "freedom" is an illusion. Freedom only comes with the amount of money in your wallet, nothing less. If anything I am fighting against the elite who wish to keep the current paradigm afloat until it kills the last person on earth. And I have said before that I don't believe in politics, but the current economy we live in is actually not an "economy" at all, but an ANTI-economy. We word economize means to be efficient with little waste, quite opposite.
SeverdSeouL 9 months ago
@SeverdSeouL your very right the problem is Ignaff is one of them!
lucy9359 9 months ago
@oldieschick6 And I agree with you about them making us take part in the system, but how we treat each other is based entirely on the values of our society. If society taught us from the start that we are all equal as human beings, that there is no need to stab others in the back in order to survive, and that there are enough resources on this planet for everybody (there is)I am sure the majority of people would be happier. Humans are naturally a social species and require social interaction.
SeverdSeouL 9 months ago
@oldieschick6 And I also understand the fact that we need industry to survive, but that industry needs to be efficient and it needs to manage resources accordingly. In its current state it is wasteful, inefficient and not sustainable whatsoever. If cost- efficiency played no part in the manufacture of goods, and instead resource management did, such goods would be made to benefit people, they would be durable, long lasting, and probably less harmful to our health and our environment.
SeverdSeouL 9 months ago
@oldieschick6 In any case, if none of these points make any sense to you, then I suppose we should agree to disagree. But if you are interested try reading up on Resource-Based Economics, because sooner or later we are going to have to make a change. It could come soon, or it could come after the last drop of oil is consumed. Either way, you already know things wont last in the current situation, globalization or "turbo-capitalism" is the peak of the market-monetary system, but also the decline.
SeverdSeouL 9 months ago
@oldieschick6 I hope you realize that if there is absolutely no government regulating the market system as it is, the world would literally turn into a zoo, which it mostly has already become due to corporatism. Infact it wouldn't be 1% owning 40% of wealth an resources, it would be more like 95%. Just so you know, I am not a socialist and I don't believe in any sort of -ism. But you are right about one thing: the left-right model is false, politics is a sham and democracy an illusion.
SeverdSeouL 9 months ago
@SeverdSeouL LOL The Comex as an example, manipulates silver and gold prices by shorting the paper market and therefore makes winners and losers by their manipulation. How does that keep the world from being a zoo as you would say? China is a communist country and yet there are more billionaires in that country than the U.S. Did you know that? We need industry to produce the goods we all use daily. If you don't want the use of those products live on a secluded island & see how long you last.
oldieschick6 9 months ago
@oldieschick6 Its actually not politics that is at fault for the way of the world. Its actually the current socio-economic system that you think is so perfect. Its broken and obsolete at its core. It has spawned materialistic greed, needless consumption and inequality that not only affects the poor alone, but everybody. Its called structural violence. There will never be freedom in this system, as long as our culture perpetuates the lie "Be nice to other people" but "Beat out the competition!"
SeverdSeouL 9 months ago
@SeverdSeouL At no time did I say that the social-political or economic system is perfect, of course it is corrupt. That's my point, the government forces us to take part in a system that many of us want no part in both politically and economically. The choice we make as to how we treat one another is a separate issue. Everyone is free to treat others according to their own level of decency or lack of.

Lybia is case and point. The Liberal's record is no better and kudos to Ignatieff for talking about that.
