Jayhawk was a nickname given to an irish bird known for it's laziness. Instead of hunting for itself it raided the nests of other birds. KS men raiding MO towns in the mid 1850's was dubbed 'jayhawking' around 1856, by an Irish immigrant in Kansas who was familiar with the bird and term. It fit and stuck. I don't think the name 'Jayhawk' can be linked to any one species of bird, but rather the irish may have used the term to describe any species of bird with this cowardly behavior.

Memphis did in fact miss free throws(not because they stopped trying but because they SUCKED AT IT). Kansas made their final 14 free throws. Memphis didn't.

KU is way over-rated. And dont forget that their top scorer was originally a memphis signee as well as the morris brothers. They almost got beat by a team that got put together in the 23rd hour of the day. More than half of memphis are last minute walkons transfers etc. Damn Cal! Wait until mid season when they get to know each other they might shock some people. Sallie and Mack need to step up more they make the difference!
