Running down from Tahquitz Peak Lookout (after month of solitude ceptin' lost beautiful ladies....'sure, you can spend the night as there's bad ole grizzlies out there!')..........do the mad dash thru forest, swerving to avoid deer, cougar, tourists.........to LA and Troubador................................X.......saved my soul!
Ah, I have to rock this song once a year on this date. Brings back memories of WHFS and Weasel playing that rock and roll. UM-CP and the student union records store. The 80's didn't totally suck.
i remember seeing X in shitty dives in central LA before they hit it. They were SO tight...the smartist band best American band EVER !! I miss the old shows at the Whiskey and the Palace...wwwooo...I think I still have welts...
Does anyone know where I can find this song...i mean what album or record? I know its not on their first two albums. And yes, I know I can just download this one song, but I'm an album guy.
@smidge1220 It's off of "See How We Are". This version is off their anthology, which is a bit truer to how it should sound. "See How We Are" was overproduced in the style of a lot of college rock bands at that time. It sounded too REM/Crowded House.
@michaelisajerk and X was so AMAZING live, nothing like it. don't get me wrong, REM was also heaven live, but not like X. wow - good times, great shows.
@humboldtus I actually read that it was Dave Alvin of The Blasters on "See How We Are". Billy was already gone, and this was the first album without him.

always thought X 2 b poser/hipsters. But they didn't miss with this song. Musicianship is decent, melody cooks as does the tempo. Dude sings full, xene's cruella deville vocals are evenly modulated and in tune for once. Lyrics really capture LA and the theme is universal: what dude hasn't apologized to his chick for reasons only she would know just so he could keep domestic tranquility. Man, if X had put the same care into more of their shit they woulda been bigger than the Pistols - really.
Thanks for this song. I came looking for it because it's been in my head. Although, I like the John Doe solo version, this one I remember belting out in the car on a trip, and playing before Sean and I go out(RIP Sean). Great memories, Great band, and song!!

The part where his voice breaks up a little bit when he belts out 'in a dark apartment'
really makes the song.

It never ceases to amaze me how much music becomes ingrained in one's psyche.
I've listened to this song since I was a teenager and it's somehow become part of me.
It just take me back to a much simpler time.
Thanks for uploading this.
