  • Yo Vito...........your a natural! you picked the most expensive piece in the store.

  • heard this on the sopranos!

  • just saw them at the cabooze in mpls in october '11. amazing band that sounds better than ever. always love them.

  • Fuck yeah I was born on the fourth of July, so in a way this song is a celebration of my birth.

  • Running down from Tahquitz Peak Lookout (after month of solitude ceptin' lost beautiful ladies....'sure, you can spend the night as there's bad ole grizzlies out there!')..........do the mad dash thru forest, swerving to avoid deer, cougar, tourists.........to LA and Troubador................................X.......saved my soul!

  • it's the fourth of july. well, not anymore.

  • @darla1970 umm, yeah - Mexican Independence Day is September 16.

  • Ah, I have to rock this song once a year on this date. Brings back memories of WHFS and Weasel playing that rock and roll. UM-CP and the student union records store. The 80's didn't totally suck.

  • Tony Gilkyson is the guitarist on this, though it was written by Dave Alvin.

  • I luv this song so much! The lyrics are so amazing!

  • veto lol

  • what a brilliant song.

  • The part where his voice breaks up a little bit when he belts out 'in a dark apartment'

    really makes the song.

  • She gives me her cheek, when I want her lips.....

  • i remember seeing X in shitty dives in central LA before they hit it. They were SO tight...the smartist band best American band EVER !! I miss the old shows at the Whiskey and the Palace...wwwooo...I think I still have welts...

    inoxydable

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS BAND SO MUCH IT MAKES ME SICK

  • X Fuckin' Rocks. Best AMERICAN Band!!!

  • If there ever was a band that deserved to have had more success than they did, it was X.

  • One of the best covers I,ve ever heard of this sond. Thanks

  • Does anyone know where I can find this song...i mean what album or record? I know its not on their first two albums. And yes, I know I can just download this one song, but I'm an album guy.

  • @smidge1220 It's off of "See How We Are". This version is off their anthology, which is a bit truer to how it should sound. "See How We Are" was overproduced in the style of a lot of college rock bands at that time. It sounded too REM/Crowded House.

  • @michaelisajerk Well you could do worse then sounding like REM.

  • @humboldtus It depends on the band. X are talented enough to make it work. But then there's Matthew Sweet...

  • @michaelisajerk and X was so AMAZING live, nothing like it. don't get me wrong, REM was also heaven live, but not like X. wow - good times, great shows.

  • @1sueism1 Live is where X does it best. I wonder if Billy Zoom is still in the band, because I don't think it was him playing on this track.

  • @michaelisajerk Yes he was. He left the band after this album.

  • @humboldtus I actually read that it was Dave Alvin of The Blasters on "See How We Are". Billy was already gone, and this was the first album without him.

  • Better version of the song is on rhino.com classic vids section

  • I love this song. Started playing it this fourth. Use to have the great X album LP it was one, but can't find. Hey baby,,,

  • Hey Baby....Its the fourth of July

  • x are great song stylists. they take any sort of cover and make it their own in a good way.

  • Cool post. I linked to it from an article on this song at the music blog, Nightly Song.

  • I'm a bit late with this one but enjoy. I opened a show at Hearland with this ditty 3 years ago this weekend.

  • Happy 4th of July!

  • awesome song

  • one of the best fourth of july songs EVAH!!

  • mexican kids are shootin fireworks below :)

    Happy 4th

  • it is the fourth of july and i'll never stop lovin' this song.happy fourth.

  • happy fourth of july

mexican kids are shooting fireworks below

  • If there was ever an American band in the last generation that deserved a lot more nation-wide success, it was X.

  • alt version from an excellent collection: "beyond and back"

  • Epic stuff here. Dave Alvin is a genius, and this is an extraordinary version of his masterpiece.

  • Great song. Thanks for posting. Where is this from? Does not sound like the version from"See How We Are" and it is not Dave Alvin's version.

  • Great version, but different from the one used in the closing credits of The Sopranos, episode 71.

  • @andyinoregon Do you know where I can find the Sopranos version of this song? Been looking for that, but no luck so far.

  • love this song, as i do of many of their graet songs.

  • too fast.

  • Best lyrics Dave Alvin ever wrote and my favorite X song. "Whatever happened, I apologise." Who hasn't been there?

  • What version is this? I have the original single version...

  • garye77, you freakin' rock! I wondered if this tune would every find it's way to YT! Thanks dude!!!

  • a girl once broke up with me on the 3rd of July, needless to say this was my jam for a while...

  • where is this from - this is not the cut from "See How We Are"

  • What can ya say? A dandy song.

  • Yo duly noted your timing is poi-fick, TY This tune reminds me of my old neighborhood - echo park. Been looking 4 it for awhile again ty.

  • xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Thanks for this song. I came looking for it because it's been in my head. Although, I like the John Doe solo version, this one I remember belting out in the car on a trip, and playing before Sean and I go out(RIP Sean). Great memories, Great band, and song!!

  • TY much for uploading this, couldn't find it elsewhere and wanted to hear it badly after having fragments of it floating thru my head all day.

  • The last time I checked, the xtheband web site had a link to the video for the song on a different site.

  • i was singing it all day too! I <3 X!!!!! forever

    happy INTERdependance day!

  • X!!!! <3 <3 <3

  • It never ceases to amaze me how much music becomes ingrained in one's psyche.

I've listened to this song since I was a teenager and it's somehow become part of me.

It just take me back to a much simpler time.

    Thanks for uploading this.

    Happy 4th.

  • I woke up with this in my head. Happy 4th!

  • Searched everywhere for X doing this and yours is the only one on YouTube! Thank you so much!
