  • Elsa Lanchester what a fantastic talent.....so intelligent and and very funny!

  • @SchenectadyScott she is Katie Nanna in mary poppins.....right?

  • I love Dick Cavett. BUT. When he got a woman in the chair who was as famous as her husband, he interviewed the woman about her HUSBAND. He did this over and over. that drove me crazy. SHE was interesting too, not just because she was married to Laughton.

  • Feliz cumpleaños....Elsa

  • takin' shots at Dick Cavett, that's awesome

  • elsa was an amazing actress and also my Great Grandmother i wish i had only gotten the chance to meet her

  • I have never seen her interviewed before, how interesting.

  • She was so funny in Witness For The Prosecution, "Sir Willllfred, your bath, you injection!"

  • Who is the interviewer?

  • @Rollich Dick Cavitt

  • Love her outfit, esp. the sandals matching the neckpiece. V. pretty, and that COLOR! You go, girl! A great lady.

    Thanks for uploading this clip!

  • what a funny smart lady! and classy

  • fabulous!! You just can't find TV like this anymore.

  • Great actress and very funny also. She had an "arrangement" with her hubby.

she could have her boyfriends over, and he could have his over too.

  • Lanchester looks like Shirley Jones' mother.

  • yes i love her. her and wendy hiller and agnes moorehead. great great players.

  • She was a fantastic actor!

  • She was a good looker even as an old lady.

  • I just recently realized she plays Katie Nana in Mary Poppins! I couldn't believe it.... growing up, I NEVER realized Katie Nana was played by Bride of Frankenstein.

  • fab interview..wonderful lady & actress..x

  • I have a Charles Laughton movie called The Tuttles of the Tahiti on Lazer Disc A rare black and white movie.Any one ever seen it out there???? Nice story line

  • GREAT!!!

  • Love him. Love her.

  • A great lady.

  • A Nurse? My God! Ms.Lanchester's character in that movie was a certifiabe Pain in the A-!(LOL!).

  • True class. Many thanks.

  • this lady was hot when younger..sorta reminds me of holly hunter! discovered her in a great movie called ladys in retirement 1941 check it out!

  • Yes- they WERE still close. Elsa & Charles were close friends with my Dad & Grandmother. I have too many stories to believe otherwise. Oh- what stories I have heard! They all went on several vacations together- Elsa & Charles, my Dad & Grandma. Enough said.

  • absolutely fantastic. charles is by far my favorite actor of all time. he captivates me every time i see him on screen. elsa is equally as brilliant. her voice is so distinctive. funnily enough, my first exposure to her was as a young child in "i love lucy" as the serial murderess on the trip from new york to florida.

  • oh yes with her watercress sandwiches!!! Haha!

  • LMFAO! yes! i love that episode too. My fave part being when Evelyn (Elsa's character) asks Lucy if she likes the sandwhich and she says in passing, "Oh yes, they're wondeful.... if you happen to like buttered-grass." LOL

  • Extremely interesting.

    Thank you!

  • I love her voice. And her spirit. Wonderful lady.

  • She has a very interesting and pretty speaking voice.

  • Who is claiming Laughton was a pedophile? That is insane. And he and Elsa did NOT lead separate lives after they married. Yes, he led a closeted gay existence, which she knew about and didn't care about. But they were close friends and got along reasonably well together. They did not lead separate lives.

  • @PeterFirthFan You're a foul, libelous cretin.

  • Just watched Witness For The Prosecution again, what a great movie, two of film's great talents. She played a memorable villianess in an early Man From UNCLE episode.

  • @gqjohnny

I never miss The Man from UNCLE. Sublime.

  • Woah pedophile! That's heavy... where's your evidence?

  • My friend is Elsie Great Granddaughter he was very strange Bi Sexual she did put up with a lot .

  • And Charles Laughton was gay. The perfect couple.

And they proved that gay marriage is both socially acceptable, and possible.

Laughton and Lanchester should be the heroes of the gay community.

  • ¡¡Poor woman !! ......

  • THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN!!!!!

  • She has a great personality. She was so,so,so beautiful when she was young, and boy do people change as they get older. Young or Old,I still admire her and think she's wonderful. She was 32 when she did Bride of Frankenstein. She looked so much younger.

  • What is really astounding is that in her early days she was really pretty! Amazing to look at her early photos and films and see how she changed over the decades.

  • This is very entertaining! Elsa was quite a character. She shares some fun stories about "The Bride of Frankenstein," and also about Isadora Duncan. She had a very interesting life. Cavett hits the nail on the head by asking her if she was typed as "The Bride..." For better or worse, that seems to have been her fate. You can see her in any number of movies, but you can't help but think of her in that role. But for good reason, as she was marvelous in that marvelous film.

  • so Charles Laughton complaining about and his work on I,Claudius wasn't that unusual as he complained about his charcterization on every film. thanks for posting his I got a new in site

  • A rael find, one of kind this lady, she is and always will be my favourite actress!

  • I enjoyed her in her movies, but reading in another book about her, I learned a lot that was disturbing. Maybe it's lies, maybe it's the real truth, but she rubbed some people the wrong way with her attitude and by the way she treated people (co-stars and Charles himself).

  • Just curious, what book was that? I know she was quite an independent-minded lady, but she never struck me as nasty or anything...

  • the man woh dose thease interviews is such a wanker

  • That swan noise she makes is exactly the territorial noise male possums make here in Oz

  • elsa lanchester one hollywood best character actresses, unforgotten as frankensteins bride.

she married to charles laughton from 1929 until 1962 when he died from cancer.

  • I just finished reading Simon Callow's fabulous bio of Charles Laughton, where Callow pulls no punches about Laughton's homosexuality, about how Lanchester found out about him after they were married. Lanchester and Laughton had lived together for two years before they got married. They stayed together for 30 years, when Laughton died tragically of bone cancer. But they lived separate lives, although living under the same roof. How lovely to see her, what a class act!

  • Elsa Lanchester is certainly one of the greats. Her autobiography is fantastic. Very well written.

  • Great video! Thank you for posting!

  • thank God Youtube and the people that share these gems

  • "she was pregnant at the time. as usual." what a wit. that's our elsa. :-)

  • I love Elsa Lanchester. Thanks for sharing.

  • Fantastic! She would be a blast to hangout with, I just know it!

  • You don't see many interviews like this anymore -- love it!
