@michaelantonio The Founding Fathers did implement a tax system where the STATE's GOVERNMENT through representatives distributed the funds as they deemed appropriate. So it might not have existed or been encouraged on the federal system however the opposite was supported at the state level. My question however was directly pertaining to Socialism which you did not address. Currently, taxpayer's dollars are used in the United States for many social programs such as FDA, FCC, HUD, USPS, Military.

My definition of socialism is the STATE taking excessive taxes from Americans & using it the way THEY see fit. In Ancient Rome, taxes didn't exceed 10%, & were often the equivalent of 2 DAYS WAGES per year. A vast majority of Americans believe our government is spending too much money & creating dangerous debt. We want to keep more of our money & spend it more wisely. Socialism is a failure
