Another thing to consider. Vitamin deficiency. Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) & Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) both help memory.
Vitamin B1 deficiency can lead to weakness, nervous failure, dementia, anxiety, depression, and death.
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to tingling or numbness in fingers & toes, difficulty walking, mood changes or depression, memory loss, disorientation, & dementia.
"Immediate forgetfulness" is not OCD, but serious memory problems which may have many causes besides lacking vitamins.
@Matrix29bear I hope this is a long winded sarcastic joke. The OCD isn't forgetting, it's a fear of 'I think I forgot to check the stove, what if I left it on and it leaks gas and I die or it blows up?' The best way I can explain it to someone who doesn't have it, is think of a time you had the urge to do something you shouldn't and tried fighting it. Or better yet, pretend your family would die if you think about a green elephant...Now don't think about that green elephant.
@TWB141 So from the perspecitve of a person you has "OCD" the other people around them are not natural and are "non-OCD". LOLOLOL stupid psychiatrists, I don't say though that there are not serious mental diseases like schizophrenia.
@mcamoran I'm not a psychiatrist, I have OCD. I don't see people without it as 'not natural' as you put it. You have your facts messed up and you need to learn proper grammar/English. I tried using 'Google Translate' to understand some semblance of what you said, but it turns out that Google Translate doesn't have and 'Ignorant to English' option. I'd also mention OCD is a serious disorder, since it can disrupt people's lives.
@TWB141 Of course I should have guessed that you are from the most drug-prescribed nation of the world, where even the drug advertisement is considered legal.Anyway I will not debate with you anymore, see the facts though people from US take the most drugs of the world and the antidepressants are the most prescribed drug in the U.S (fact).Go on make the "ethical" companies richer by fooling yourself that you suffer from a fictional disease! Ask your doctor, "would you prescribe yourself?"
After doing all this, place the 7 pieces of paper in prominent locations around your home where your eyes will view this message often. This is also important as you will forget the messages to yourself are there, why they are there, and you'll forget if you are currently being treated for your memory disorder. Write the date on these papers so that if you need to update them, you default to the newest one and update the rest.
The most important person you can ever control is yourself.
Also, since your problem is not so much found in the compulsive time-wasting checking & re-checking actions, but a SERIOUS MEMORY PROBLEM. In big letters using a permanent marker with a wide tip write at least 7 times, "I have a MEMORY PROBLEM (probably ALZHEIMER'S DISORDER), I need to go to a doctor for treatment. This is scary, but has to be done. If I already have memory-improving medication then I am currently being treated (write dosage schedule on paper)."
Self-Confidence is eroded by cold hard reality slapping you in the face like a cold wet fish after you have discovered a self-created mistake. In order to have instantly forgotten actions to create instinctual action-related forgetfulness-paranoia, then you would have forgotten to turn the stove off & discovered it later & reacted in horror. Again, this is not Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but PREMATURE ALZHEIMER'S DISORDER & serious growing memory issues. Write this down, you will forget it.
Furthermore, to clarify things, to constantly "Re-check" a completed action, is not so much insecurity (memory-related paranoia), but a distinct biological problem with your short-term memory and retaining that information. If you turned off the stove already, then the compulsion to check it again is self-protection instinctual paranoia because your short-term memory has instantly forgotten that you already turned the stove off. If your memory was fine, then you would not be re-checking this.
Eh, if you're obsessively "checking" things, then you have not a problem with Obsessive Compulsion, but HORRIBLY DEFECTIVE MEMORY.
Checking is one thing, immediately forgetting recent actions taken is PREMATURE ALZHEIMER'S DISORDER. Scattered memory, confusion with the simplest tasks, immediate forgetfulness, paranoia in regards to memory, etc -- all classic signs of premature memory loss issues. Making certain an outside door is locked is okay, bad is instantly forgetting that you locked it.
@mcamoran Try living with it, then see how invented it is. Plus, it was around before medications. Read some Shakespeare, there are some characters with OCD tendencies in it.
@TWB141 OCD is a myth, to sell drugs! There is also a disease called "low concentration" LOLOLOLOL how stupid are those ass-holes and how many excuses will they find to sell us their poisons.
@mcamoran I'm guessing by 'low concentration' that you're referring to ADD/ADHD. But yeah, you're right. It's obviously a myth. I began suffering from OCD as a child before I'd even heard of it or knew what it was. They beamed the thoughts into my head so they could sell me medicine. Except I don't take medication for mine...DOH! LOLOLOLOL Guess your theory is flawed. Go get yourself educated and leave the big boy talk to the adults.
I have OCD, thanks to my psychologist I am slowly over coming it, I saw this way before I was in therapy and I had a carer, when I suffered the most, when I tried killing myself everyday, and I find this funny. I can't believe I am sharing this but I need to make light of things :) :D
As a compulsive hand washing OCD struggler whos life was almost taken by the agonizing grips of OCD years ago, I know far too well what it's like to suffer with this kind of thing. Today I still struggle a lot. But I also know, from going through various means of treatment, that it is a sign of strength when you can look at a painful problem with humor, regardless of how bad things may seem. This clip allows the OCD sufferer to do just that, in a tasteful way. I think it's great

I'm glad to see that most OCD sufferers have no problems with, and actually seem to like, this video. Since it ended up being one of my most watched videos, I thought I'd belatedly explain that OCD didn't really figure into the making of this at all. I had a scene where there were some funny reaction shots and the only conceivable "action," or cause for their looks, was to have the door open and close repeatedly. To explain that, and give the video a title, I inserted the OCD "storyline."
(Characters enter control room. Luke closes the door behind.)
Luke: Wait, maybe somebody's out there. (opens door)(Obi-Wan and Han look) Nope; we're good. (closes)(3PO and R2 are bemused) I think I saw somebody pass by! (opens)(closes) It's cool... We've been spotted! (opens)(Chewie mutters to himself) Naw it's...No wait! We're...good. Op!(closes)(opens)(closes)(opens)(repeatably)

Hmm, strange, all this time I've been under the impression (and read on some places online ) that OCD only affects people with it, in things that they actually enjoy doing, for example playing video games. I suppose there could be people out there that enjoy opening and closing doors, but I think it more likely that what I've read is inaccurate.
I have OCD. I close the kitchen door. Then I have to open it to make sure the light is off in the garage. Then I close the door. Then I have to open it to make sure it is locked by turning the knob on the outside. Then I close the door. i do this every night.
No need to be slunty. You came running to the defense of a group of people that really do not need or want your self righteous assistance. Please go back to picketing for PETA, or hugging trees, or being part of the "Occupy..." movement, or whatever it is that you do that makes you think you are a better person.

But I am not stressed about it, because my OCD is only moderate. I make fun of myself b/c of it many times, but I don´t say it is not annoying sometimes.

Actually Luke has CDO silly! Their culture is more sophisticated than ours so they have made progress with this condition we haven't so all the letters are in the proper order they way they are SUPPOSED to be!
@singularity3 people with obsessive compulsive disorder have obsession of doing everything in sertant number. if they dont, they feel like they cant control the situation they in.
@gethsoftware Not necessarily, they just think or act obsessively, and or, compulsively. I have obsessive compulsive disorder, and it doesn't affect me that way.
It isn't easy. I would be standing outside just looking at the sky and try to go in and as I approach the door I get the idea to look at the sky again and do it all over again for one hour. Now whenever I come home and OCD kicks in, I just go like "Oh, bollocks! Just go in!" and I go :D
You know, whenever I see this scene (I mean the original in the movie) I'm like "dude, with doorse like that, every day or so somebody aboard that ship must accidentally chop off a foot"
@nintwiggy6491 You are absolutely right. However, I was talking about the doors in the movie, which are controlled manually and as such, due to bad timing on the part of the part of the person operating door, could easily squash one's toes (or tail, depending on what planet one's from). Good thing we have those motion censors back on good ole' Earth! =)
@n8n8n8 It is OCD for sure. There are many forms of OCD. For some, people have little rituals they just HAVE to follow everytime they do something. In this case opening and closing a door multiple times before moving on. The amount of times done each time is the same. Its never 5 open and closes one time and then 6 the next. Its always the same amount each and every time.
that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! that was good! Actually Luke has CDO silly! Their culture is more sophisticated than ours so they have made progress with this condition we haven't so all the letters are in the proper order they way they are SUPPOSED to be!

Guidodo 9 months ago 113
@Guidodo I m pretty sure doors like that already exist and they have motion censors so that they dont close if someone is in the way.
They have em at grocery stores. (the plastic ones)
Have you ever ran in and out of those closing doors and see if you could actually get stuck between them?
lol Its not possible.
nintwiggy6491 5 months ago
@nintwiggy6491 You are absolutely right. However, I was talking about the doors in the movie, which are controlled manually and as such, due to bad timing on the part of the part of the person operating door, could easily squash one's toes (or tail, depending on what planet one's from). Good thing we have those motion censors back on good ole' Earth! =)

good edits. like father like son indeed. i just don't know if I would call this OCD.
n8n8n8 10 months ago
@n8n8n8 It is OCD for sure. There are many forms of OCD. For some, people have little rituals they just HAVE to follow everytime they do something. In this case opening and closing a door multiple times before moving on. The amount of times done each time is the same. Its never 5 open and closes one time and then 6 the next. Its always the same amount each and every time.
