sorry you and your dog had to experience a dishonest dogwalker :-( esp. @ christmas time :-( double boo! ...hope you have better experiences today! glad you had your cam set up!
@dkreifus Sorry you had to deal with someone like that. Totally irks me that someone you put trust in has no problem taking your money and doesn't do what they promised. Felt bad for your poor dog who just wanted to pee. Good that you have someone reliable now tho! :)
I'm a professional pet sitter and this woman makes me so mad! I pride myself on making sure ALL the animals in my care get treated the best and as close to what they are used to as possible. I ENJOY spending time with them and walking them... that's one of the reasons I'm in this business! The vast majority of PROFESSIONALS are reliable and responsible.... she is nothing more than a lazy liar who is in it to "make easy money" . She needs to leave it to real professionals and find another biz!
@lily1013 She wasn't a professional. We were new to the neighborhood and were looking for a local neighbor. She worked nearby, and had no problems for at least a year that we know of. But she decided that the extra 2 minutes we needed was too much for her. (Our dog is lazy, he's a bulldog. He wants out, in and be done.)
We have a great neighbor now who handles things for us as needed.
IF I was a dog walker. I wouldn't care if they videoed me since I would always try to do a good job. It would just prove I was doing a good job for their beloved pet. :-)
Good job catching that "dog walker". Wow, our Shibas can go a long time too, but geeze she was quick to grab the cash (and of course give the treat, but only to do away with the evidence!) I have children too and people use nanny cams all the time, good for you! I'm home with all of them now, but here is wishing you luck in the future!
I think I might know the dog walker in question. Was this from MD? My ex was/is a dogwalker and did this kind of stuff a lot. She'd brag about what a good job she did, but then complain about being rushed and cut appointments short and skip some. I think this kind of problem is endemic to this profession. There's a lot of trust given by the customer and very little oversight unless you use a something like this solution.
I can here via lifehacker which has some fantastic stuff about things that I think about everyday. My old boss used to webcam the S&*T out of me while I was working but I don't care I DID my job and had nothing to hide.
I'll have to try this one on the missus to check she's done the dishes & not hired a maid!! Haha, yeah I walk my own dog but only 'cause she would eat anyone else that comes into my house....
You keep your dog imprisoned in a crate for most of the day? That's mental cruelty. You need to reconsider how you treat your dog. He probably wags his tail more out of relief than being happy to see you when you eventually show up. At least give him the run of the house. This is wrong.
Thank you for posting this video. It is a good reminder to pet owners to hire reputable pet walkers and it is a reminder to service providers to be honest. I think some of the angry people are friends of the failed dog walker. I don't see any other reason for these negative comments.
I think we covered it all. Happy Pet Sitting. [lol] I'm surprised more videos aren't posted. I had a client streaming me over the internet - without my knowledge. Oh the stories we all have. Peace.
You've insulted the vast majority of professional pet sitters/dog walkers who are honest and capable. In addition, a business called Fetch! Pet Care Valley Verde is using your video on their Facebook/Twitter pages to promote their business. If you wanted this just to show your friends, post it somewhere privately. In the meantime, how about asking these Fetch! people to stop using your video? You wouldn't like it if I posted a shady video about your occupation would you?
@spicepwdcgc I did intend this just for friends. I didn't think of a better universal spot than YouTube. I will find where Fetch has it and ask them to remove it. Thank you for letting me know about this. I wasn't sure why people thought this was fake and who fetch was.
@dkreifus It's good that you posted this. This how consumers demand a better product. I had been advocating for along time to start weeding out the substandard from the professionally committed [which may or may not include FETCH ... some of these franchises are going to be good and bad along with the private businesses ... as all things go].
I wanted to thank you for posting this because i can't believe people just think they can get away with anything ... unfortunately not all work places can be monitored, imagine if this "girl" would be taking care of a human? take the paycheck, accomodate the towels and go? NO WAY! Hopefully she and other scammers out there learned their lesson! Luckily your dog did not suffer much and you can count on your neighbours!
This sh&t happens. All pet sitters should use this video to their advantage and stop harping on Fetch (I understand the controversy with them - move on). Under the table pet sitters, fly-by-night pet sitters , KND (kid next door), neighbor, if you're serious, you need to start separating yourselves from these people - if you're an industry. This video demonstrates all of the above - and not you.
It pains me to see this video - I want to smack this person. It is buyer beware. Spend the extra expense to hire a pet sitting company that has credentials and strong referrals.
From someone who has been in the industry for 10 years (retired). I would drill it into my pet sitters heads to always operate as if a camera is on you at all times. Do your job - be excellent, be stellar ... your client will know.
This is not staged. Sorry to disappoint you. I have no reason to stage this. As soon as this all happened, my neighbor who originally tipped me off came by and walked the dog. We let this 'occur' again was we needed to talk to our dog walker in person to get the key back and confront her. That happened on Dec 8.
Why does anyone in pet sitting feel they need to run down the rest of us, an entire industry. Did that poor dog ever get out to pee? Sad, Sad state when one goes to the length to downgrade others.
If this is just "someone who worked nearby" like you said in your comment, then she's not really a dog walker. She just someone making money on the side. Next time hire a professional pet sitter/dog walker!
1st: Why does someone have a tree up in November? Kind of weird. 2nd: There are no date or time stamps on your video so for all we know, you edited the crap out of it. 3rd: why would someone secretly video tape their dog walker? That is beyond bizarre.
This was November 30. After Thanksgiving when many people put up Christmas decorations. I used Vitamin D, a currently free/beta software which is lacking that feature. I already commented to the company that they should add that feature. The only editing I did was to put it all together.
I would love to use your video if you dont mind. Would you please email me. I have a gmail account..

How is this insulting to anyone but the employer who is getting ripped off? People who conduct their business honestly, don't end up on YouTube.

There's no insult here to the many professional walkers, just to this dimwit.

Spice,
dkreifus had a choice -
1: hire someone presumably on about minimum-wage to do the job.
2: hire a professional with vetting (if you'll pardon the pun), references, indemnity insurance and so on.
If you want the cost saving of option 1, then you have to bear the cost of "monitoring and management" yourself.
Glad that this scammer has been outed - I wonder how many other clients she was billing for the same time!

I haven't promoted any franchise anything. If an ad comes up, it is not my doing, it is Google/Youtube.
This is not a staged situation, sadly.

You are absolutely right! I agree. I was researching them until my trusted longtime neighbor offered to do it, as she works from home now.
