@SilverHammock Really? You ARE joking, right? The phrase "where his movies amazing" makes no sense. Here's the deal. Where is an adverb. It describes location or position, as in "Where is your goddamn sense?" "Were" (without an apostrophe) is not we are, but a form of the verb "to be." (like "is, was, or are") "were his movies amazing" is the past tense of "are his movies amazing?" "Where" is pronounced like "ware,"and "were" is pronounced like "whir" (the sound a blender makes.) Understand?
@xJoeEDangerouslyx Sorry I looked at the title in a 'where' manner or way. It's a mistake by me, but give me a break I'm 13. Anyway I could spell like dis and dat and tha.
@SilverHammock Forgiven. Sorry if I sounded like a dick. There are people older than me who don't understand how to speak English apparently, so I get a little frustrated.
the idiot critic in this clip knows nothing about film if he does not understand the brilliance of John hughes and what he did. Im not saying this only as a fan but as someone who worked under the tudor of a film director, I always loved hughes films but learned to see them in a different way through my time working with a director. people who hate hughes are the people hughes tried to expose in his movies.
Hahaha Wow that was the most ignorant tirade I have ever read. It's so dumb that it's just hilarious. Do you know what a Turk is and what Country? Obviously not. Did you know that Turkey is not in South America and that a Turk is not, as you say, a "spic"? Obviously not. Wild guess, you are "American", and one from the midwest, the south or very inland. Small town, and a republican. Your kind of ignorance only comes from there. You are the reason why people laugh at "Americans". Learn something.

Get your head out of the sticks and get a fucking world atlas and learn that there is a whole world outside of the United States you fucking hick
He was a legend!!! ferris bueller's day off, the breakfast club, planes trains & automabiles, and home alone were fantastic!!! John Candy was also great he was made famous cos Hughes did him in classic movies like uncle buck!!
he was the king of the 80's teen movie he created the brat pack they would be no twilight , the oc, gossip girl, party of five or dawson creek not mention 90210 without him -he defined a generation and breakfast club -one fo the best movies of the 80's man.
@dlfunky Breakfast Club one of the best movies ever. I'm only a sophmore in college and that movie is still an almost perfect representation of my feelings in high school. If you can make a movie that is still relevant decades later, you've made one of the best.
they were representative of a certain brand of humor made popular in the 80s and eventually spawned a whole barrage of team romcoms and explotation films involving horny teens and college students.
Classic inferiority complex. If you like the movies, fine. Why do you have to bully those who don't? Hughes made some okay movies, that's all. The Breakfast Club is somewhat of a classic, and his movies are enjoyable. But he's got no sense of storytelling trough images that a good director should have.

Home Alone was good as a kid, I mean who doesn't like seeing burglars slip on marbles or w/e, and Breakfast Club was alright I suppose (except for that stupid dance scene -.-), but I wouldn't say either of them were amazing pieces of American cinema.
I am amazed to see how many of Hughes' work I have never seen, or only seen in parts. I can only think of maybe a half dozen of his movies I've actually watched all the way through, even once.
John Hughes made a whole bunch of lame movies with shallow stereotypical characters, some outright racist (Long Duk Dong), and only managed one decent film in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
John Hughes created films that spoke to all Regan-era suburban youth - don't discount their effect in providing a spotlight or support to the disaffected teens in suburbs everywhere in the 80's.
How could 2 people as stupid as these, have a show? Nice tribute to a man that had more talent in his left thumb than these 2 hacks could ever sell their soul for!!!
I am so sad to hear that John Hughes passed away. My favorite movies of his are "Pretty in Pink" and "Breakfast Club". They were brilliant! God speed John!
Actually the only reason you would take the movies of John Hughes over the "shit" today is because you aren't young anymore. Thier are plenty of amazing films coming out today and plenty of shit like always...nothing's changed
Ferris Bueller's Day Off and National Lampoon's Vacation pretty much stood in a category of their own. I have a spot for Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but I really don't think it is as complete a movie as the other two.
I guess I was just too old to enjoy Home Alone, because I kept hoping the kid's antics would backfire in a horribly tragic way at some point...

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one of the best fims of the 1980's.John Hughes loved to poke a finger in the eye of Confomity and he did it in a Masterful way.a sad day.
What would the cinema landscape be without Ferris Buelers Day Off, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, Weird Science, and any other number of movies he wrote directed or produced?
We wouldn't have brillaint comedies like Superbad or Dave in Real Life, films that blend hilarity with honesty in a seamless fashion for starters.
John Hughes truly had a hand in forming my generation with his films. I don't know any 30ish women that don't love cult classics like 16 Candles, Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller. He was truly able to capture teen angst and light hearted rebellion in a realistic way.
He was kinda like the guy who did the illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post. Not appreciated by the art world but definitely hugely influential. He certainly created a slice of Americana. How about Planes, Trains and Automobiles? (is that right?) Was that John Hughes?
I'm so sad. I had no idea he'd passed away until just now. You can't compare his movies to any other genre. They we made for my generation and we loved them well. I still refer to them when I hit a pity spiral. Sixteen Candles restores your faith in love, trust me try it when you need it and if Breakfast Club doesn't convince you that you're not the only one, then you just need to watch it again.
How ironic that YOU don't know who he is yet others are the idiots. Let me know if you need me to explain who Jesus, George Washington, Or Ghandi are. Single digit IQ's should never start throwing stones.
napalml337..are you educated??anyway, i don't want to be too harsh on you, may be you are just a kid..all i am saying is,either you don't know Gandhi or mocking at him- both way you need good education
oh come on dude, "finebiner" is the real idiot who cannot compile andyscott's statement, "who is john hughes? yer idiots", who clearly meant anyone who doesn't know hughes is an idiot. I was simply asking a classic, stupid "youtubian" comment. Protip- don't take people seriously on youtube.
he didn't just direct them, he mostly wrote them. they were amazing. they were classics. they will be watched for years to come. that is no easy task. teenage films follow his blueprint even today. he is forgiven for "maid in manhattan".
what a show! i've never seen anything like this. i'd rather watch these videos than live my freakin' life. i love it more than life itself. it tells me what to think and how to feel. it is my family. i'm sooooooooo happy.
I really miss the simpicity of those his movies. Everything these day's is so hyped up and has no real human quality. His movies where so human and touching and deep in there way of trying to capture personal/social issues of the time.
In a way he didn't define a generation but a generation defined hos movies. Kid's felt undertood and identified with those movies.
I'm just about to watch The Breakfast Club, been wanting to for a while now and I think nows a good time to do so. I'll be puttin clips of it on my channel after I see it
"Planes Trains & Automobiles" is a very underappreciated movie. With the exception of "It's A Wonderful Life" I can think of no other movie that captures the true meaning of the holidays and the human spirit.
And "Uncle Buck" is one of the funniest movies there ever was.
John Hughes is not appreciated enough for his contributions to cinema.
In John Hughes' movies you actually care about the characters (which is more than I can say for a lot of the movies that come out these days), even if you didn't like the story all that much. Not everyone can pull that off.
Maybe you cared about the characters more because you were 10 yrs old at the time. There were movies made in the 90's and 00's that followed type of scripting, but perhaps not as iconic.
His movies are great investigations of the complexities of the Hunan condition in a lexicon we can all grasp. However, Ana misspoke. He wrote most of these movies, but directed only some of them. Chris Columbus did Home Alone, I believe.
I like to reread books from my childhood and teens as well. The continued love of something childish is not a bad thing. Watching again a movie that moved or tickled me in my teens simply brings me back to a feeling of joy or comfort, like the one I felt the first time. However you feel about his movies, you can't dismiss the impact and influence they had and continue to have on the people who absorbed their messages, good or bad.
There were a high percentage of movies made in the 80's that weren't amazing, but were fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN! You have to wonder, will any "light-hearted" movie be released in 2009 that will be as fondly remembered in 20 years as some of these 80's movies are?
He made some excellent films about growth and learning and they were funny too but amazing they weren't. I loved FBDO and Breakfast Club they were defining films. BTW does that girl have another dress or not?
Subtitles are fucked...

John Hughes truly had a hand in forming my generation with his films. I don't know any 30ish women that don't love cult classics like 16 Candles, Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller. He was truly able to capture teen angst and light hearted rebellion in a realistic way.
LorienCox 2 years ago
I agree with David, his movies were anything BUT amazing.
hampusheh 2 years ago
Absolutely.. You could say some of his movies were decent. But amazing? Even "good" would be a stretch for most of them if you ask me.
megamarsvin 2 years ago
His movies were amazing.
The Breakfast Club is one of the best movies ever made, even right up there with The Godfather.
ArcticBoy14 2 years ago

I'm glad she mentioned 16 Candles first, that was sooo fun to me
Rahmanqureshi 2 years ago
He was kinda like the guy who did the illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post. Not appreciated by the art world but definitely hugely influential. He certainly created a slice of Americana. How about Planes, Trains and Automobiles? (is that right?) Was that John Hughes?
flexorder 2 years ago
Sad day in Chicago. 16 Candles is one of my favorite movies ever.
flowergirl1313 2 years ago
I'm so sad. I had no idea he'd passed away until just now. You can't compare his movies to any other genre. They we made for my generation and we loved them well. I still refer to them when I hit a pity spiral. Sixteen Candles restores your faith in love, trust me try it when you need it and if Breakfast Club doesn't convince you that you're not the only one, then you just need to watch it again.

who is john hughes? yer idiots.
andysott 2 years ago
How ironic that YOU don't know who he is yet others are the idiots. Let me know if you need me to explain who Jesus, George Washington, Or Ghandi are. Single digit IQ's should never start throwing stones.

napalml337..are you educated??anyway, i don't want to be too harsh on you, may be you are just a kid..all i am saying is,either you don't know Gandhi or mocking at him- both way you need good education
himanqwert 2 years ago
oh come on dude, "finebiner" is the real idiot who cannot compile andyscott's statement, "who is john hughes? yer idiots", who clearly meant anyone who doesn't know hughes is an idiot. I was simply asking a classic, stupid "youtubian" comment. Protip- don't take people seriously on youtube.
Also, I don't know Gandhi, do you?

Noticed that too. Why is it that so many women don't understand that concept?
kkinski2000 2 years ago
he didn't just direct them, he mostly wrote them. they were amazing. they were classics. they will be watched for years to come. that is no easy task. teenage films follow his blueprint even today. he is forgiven for "maid in manhattan".
tyt sucks when it comes to pop culture.

what a show! i've never seen anything like this. i'd rather watch these videos than live my freakin' life. i love it more than life itself. it tells me what to think and how to feel. it is my family. i'm sooooooooo happy.

Hughes was a great director.

Amazing!!!
I'll miss you bro.

his movies defined the 80s-90s.
I am wondering why he stopped working after 1997's Home Alone 3. What a way to end your career.

His movies were cult classics, but not classics. Amazing? I don't think so.
DrQuijano 2 years ago
"Planes Trains & Automobiles" is a very underappreciated movie. With the exception of "It's A Wonderful Life" I can think of no other movie that captures the true meaning of the holidays and the human spirit.
And "Uncle Buck" is one of the funniest movies there ever was.
I miss John Candy.

John Hughes is not appreciated enough for his contributions to cinema.
In John Hughes' movies you actually care about the characters (which is more than I can say for a lot of the movies that come out these days), even if you didn't like the story all that much. Not everyone can pull that off.
redrainjedi 2 years ago
Maybe you cared about the characters more because you were 10 yrs old at the time. There were movies made in the 90's and 00's that followed type of scripting, but perhaps not as iconic.
dwaynepeterzen 2 years ago
So only 10 year olds care about the characters in John Hughes films? "Adults" like yourslef are just above that, huh?
There's something wrong with you if you don't care about characters like Ferris Bueller, or Buck Russell, or Dell Griffith.
redrainjedi 2 years ago
His movies are great investigations of the complexities of the Hunan condition in a lexicon we can all grasp. However, Ana misspoke. He wrote most of these movies, but directed only some of them. Chris Columbus did Home Alone, I believe.
BlackSoultan 2 years ago
To put it another way, most of his movies are fine for kids and teens but are the kind of prattle that adults should have outgrown long ago.
demystifier 2 years ago
I like to reread books from my childhood and teens as well. The continued love of something childish is not a bad thing. Watching again a movie that moved or tickled me in my teens simply brings me back to a feeling of joy or comfort, like the one I felt the first time. However you feel about his movies, you can't dismiss the impact and influence they had and continue to have on the people who absorbed their messages, good or bad.
Rachaelj1975 2 years ago
There were a high percentage of movies made in the 80's that weren't amazing, but were fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN! You have to wonder, will any "light-hearted" movie be released in 2009 that will be as fondly remembered in 20 years as some of these 80's movies are?

To be fair considering what is considered a "success" in Hollywood, I have more respect for you if you fail ;)
megamarsvin 2 years ago
who?
SFSylvester 2 years ago
Since the topic of the clip seems to be asking, Hughes's films were not amazing. His movies were fucking terrible.
Light-hearted yes. Awful sentimental schlock definitely.
Why are you considered a curmudgeon if you want your movies to be light-hearted but also intelligent, and demand more than schmaltzy idiocy?
demystifier 2 years ago
He made some excellent films about growth and learning and they were funny too but amazing they weren't. I loved FBDO and Breakfast Club they were defining films. BTW does that girl have another dress or not?
