@TwaletBrush I read the book some time in the early 80s. It was most likely an adaptation of the movie. Didn't hold onto it though. (A quick check reveals that it was authored by "Phil Smith" and second-hand copies are available thru Amazon.)

I remember reading about this in Famous Monsters when I was 12. I've never seen the movie but I think I will. The guy at the begining of the trailer looks ans sounds like David Lynch.(but it obviously isn't him)

This was forbiden fruit when I was a kid, I wasn't allowed to see it, but I DID manage to get the Box Costume (if you were a kid in the 70's you know what I mean they were as ubiquitous as PAAS for Easter) and I can only IMAGINE what that stupid costume would be worth now.

This movie Is Bad Yeah hence the Phrase "B-Movies" but Is also has a Certain charm to It which makes It enjoyable, the Gore/Melting Effects are pretty well done for It's time and while the Acting Is Cheesy enough for you to Laugh at you do Genuinely sympathise for the Lead Character along the way who through no fault of his Own was exposed to Radiation and made this Way........... I Enjoyed It!

In my opinion, this is worth watching ONLY for Rick Baker's amazing special effects. I thought everything else was surprisingly dull for a movie about a melting astronaut (and an incredible one at that). The MST episode is definitely a favorite, too.

Bad movie? are you kidding? Loved watching this as a kid, matter of fact I'll take your average B-Movie horror flick over any CGI crap of today. Back then it was "Oh wow, how did they do that, or how did they make it look so real?" as opposed to nowadays, you know it's totally fake computer drawings. No real merit in that.

And then tries the experiment on himself (i think), and he transforms into this werewolf looking monster. it's hilarious, been trying to look for it for the longest, if anybody knows the film i'm talking about, hit me back.

I read that this was originally supposed to be a parody but was changed to a straight horror film by the producers. I can see the inherent problems of switching from intentional comedy to unintentional comedy.

Well... see by yourself : I've posted the first 20 min of the movie on my channel (divided in two parts)

Considering the amateur cast + the fact that (obviously) it wasn't meant to be funny but scarry + the fact that although the movie is less than 1h30 it feels like 2X its length ... well, you get the idea! If I need to say more, you should watch the whole thing, hehehe, kinda painful after 30-45 min...

Actualy, I've seen this flick already, I just wanted to get you to clarify you're statement there a bit.

Yeah, theres some pretty poor acting and directing in it. I've always watched this one mainly out of interest in Rick Bakers make-up effects work,..which is EXCELENT, especialy for a low budget film of this vintage,..thats one thing yaou've gotta give it.
