As for Creationism, it's theoretically separate from religion. In practice, the two are firmly connected.

I love he's being criticized for answering a question asked to him about politics. This one is arguable in my opinion, but I see your point. In one sense, this is exactly why I agree with Matt Damon. She was artificially created as a Republican celebrity to get votes. I don't have anything personal against Sarah Palin. She's just attractive, charismatic, uneducated, ignorant and proud of it. Those may be fine qualities in a soccer mom, I have no idea and I don't care about that. What I do care about is when someone with such a breathtaking lack of knowledge wants a place in public power. There is when religion clashes with evidence. Believing in something which has repeatedly proven to be false and/or intentionally misleading is a surefire sign of an ignorant or a manipulative person.

Our experiences may differ, but I can't help but notice that she hasn't publicly recanted her beliefs nor re-stated her opinion since she got humiliated the last time she supported creationism. Probably worked with her speech coaches since then.

As for Creationism, it's theoretically separate from religion. In practice, the two are firmly connected.
Creationism is a pseudo-science which sounds convincing to ignorant people, not an actual field of study. In that sense, it's all but identical to alchemy, astrology, feng shui and acupuncture. It's laughable and usually the sign of an uneducated mind.

Although Matt Damon does make movies, and is in hollywood, he is an intellectual person, he knows the needs of people, and he acknowledges the errors the government has made, and continue to make.
His movies are part of his career, to have an income.
Not all hollywood celebs can have a political opinion - albeit their political knowledge is limited they try and fail - Paris Hilton for example.
