I like the part where Jack Black goes to look for the record the guy asks for, and he's like "Let me seeee-eeeee-eeee-eee-eeeeeeeeeee" and bends over with his ass hanging out. I love Jack Black!
I think people judge B&S by misconceived notions. Like they've heard one song or know the band is classified as "twee" or "sad bastard" indie, but if you listen to recent stuff, that's hardly the case anymore. And if you have seen them in concert or interviews, they're actually pretty funny, charming people. But not everyone likes the same thing and we should respect people's listening choices. Isn't that the point? The world would be a boring place if everyone listened to the same music.
Mix tapes are a dying art and it's sad. Digital shit just isn't the same. Music was so much more personal when you had to physically go to the record store and buy the album and you had to actually own a stereo that wasn't made for your car to make a mix. Let's not let the music experiece die! Bring mix tapes back!
They created songs of loneliness, relationships, social group settings, and being different from the normally human, expressing emotions that were not abided by UK culture.
Okay, well, i suggest injecting a large dose of heroin into your vein, because their music is exhilarating and calming at the same time.
Bob Dylan is a great musician, but i agree, he does get too much respect for his work. In my point of view he only created two great albums.
Most people don't know that Donovan had created the folk sound before Bob Dylan.
Bob Dylan had his fame by his outrageous controversy with the acoustic switch to electric guitar. Donovan often toured with Bob Dylan. If you look it up, you'll notice that Donovan had the same voice, the same sound before Dylan, but most americans did not hear Donovan until later, songs like "Season Of The Witch" in the late 60's. Donovan was in the Uk at the time of Dylan's rise of fame.
@CzeslawMeyer Actually, at the time Dylan started playing on the New York folk scene Donovan was only around 13. Donovan did not release his first album until 1965, by which time Dylan had released 6 albums. Dylan's fame was very well secured before his switch to electric, with probably the peak of his fame being 1964, a year before the incident. Donovan did not come before Dylan, and I think Dylans influence on him is blatently obvious.
They created songs of loneliness, relationships, social group settings, and being different from the normally human, expressing emotions that were not abided by UK culture.
Cool. Well, i suggest injecting a large dose of heroin into your vein, because their music is fucking exhilarating and relaxing.
Joy Division were the one's who started the post punk movement. They were the original pioneers. If you look up their lyrics, you would understand how realistic and ideal they truly were.
Back in there era, The UK wasn't making sounds in minor. They were creating songs in major, creating punk. After punk was created, Joy Division came in with a punk that was not revolting but full of depressed emotions and dark undertone sound, still with the punk fast pace beat.
Although there is range from crappy music with talented musicians to good music by talented musicians, there are certain musicians who are in the industry that are horrible and are not talented musicians, creating the same sound, the same attitude, the same lyrics, the same crap. These are represented as "Mainstream". Since one band was commercially successful, they decide to do the same. One band to note, Motley Crue & in my point of view, the worst band ever created.
To state that Joy Division is 14 year old kids proves that you have no knowledge of music.
There's a difference between disliking a certain music and knowing they are good.
I could say Christina Aguilera music is the shittiest music on the planet, which it is.
But she has a fucking incredible voice. She doesn't scream like everybody else and has this soulful original sound with 60's influence. What about MJ, i hate his music too, but he was extremely talented.
If i recall, it was you disagreeing with another user, stating that B & S and The Smiths were "background music for the mall".
If Nirvana did have an overrated album, it would be Nevermind, seeing that the first song is "Smells Like Teen Spirit", a song Kurt Cobain has stated, "a failed attempt to make a Pixies song".
Why don't you guys actually listen to belle and sebastian before commenting like syd barrett himself. They are one of my favorite groups and if you listened to their cd The Life Pursuit, you would know it really isn't sad bastard music.
@sydbarrett5 Belle and Seb are the cleverest songwriters since the Smiths. And their music is just as intelligent as their lyrics. Clearly it doesn't have the widest appeal but it's not for sad bastards only.
0:56 Dick is NOT winding the tape the right way. If you used them you'd know.

In Utero was his attempt of making a great album yet creating an album that mainstreamers from Nevermind would dislike.,
and indeed, it was still commercialized and obsessed due to Nevermind's success.

If i want to listen to hard rock/grunge, i'll listen to nirvana's in utero or pixies' surfer rosa .
Not some 10 minute repetitive shit from GnR.
Not to mention, i've heard that song, when i use to listen to them ,when i was 8.
It sucked then and it is worst now.
Your attention span must last long.
It had taken me one minute to realize it wasn't going anywhere.
You go listen to your awful mainstream 80's glamour hair rock bullshit.
While, i listen to Joy Division for now.

you've favorited youtube clips from bands such as Guns N Roses, Motley Cure, and Foo Fighters.
HAHA
Sorry pal, but not all of us are into the crappy "fuck you/sex is good" repetitive lyrics of hard rock and the basic chords of slash.
If you want to listen to true rock n roll, i suggest you to start from velvet underground and walk your way up.
Slash will never be as talented and as creative as Johnny Marr on guitar.
