i think the first time they laughed was when he said 「父は60歳ですが、もう退職しています (it means "my father is 60 years old, but he's already retired", literally)」, and I guess this might be considered as a humor that he implied, because it could be interpreted as he mentioned "he's ONLY 60 years old, but ANYHOW, he's retired already", and that is clear by the fact that right after he said that, one of those students said "(that's) Too early!". This, in Japan, is what to be called as"
hi can you post the romanji of your speech coz your speech is too fast. im studying japanese module 1 and my teacher wants me to have a japanese speech.
OMG this is soooo touching XDDD don't you feel great to have this opportunity? I'm a Japanese student (I look american though) and I'm living in USA right now (going to move back to Japan in a month). When I first came here, we didn't do these type of introductions and when I did talk to the class, people would make fun of my pronounciation. In japan though, we are happy to know that people speak Japanese. ^_^ that's a good thing. good job ;D
fair play to you!!!!!!!!!! i can speak almost perfect japanese but no way got the guts to give a speech like that in front anyone!!!! fair play to you!!!!
this is from a real japanese (me) u have excellent grammer but u should work on ur accent and pronunciation and u should have used different words at some parts but u did alrealy YAY
hows that going? u still into it??? i really want to learn it to but am having second thoughts coz its really pretty useless unless u live there.... :(
Your grammar is very very good. The pronunciation not so much. You accent is very noticeable. If you haven't already(I'm guessing you have since its been two years), I would try to improve it. Pronunciation is the easiest thing in the language though imo, so it isn't to hard. I think the major problem with your pronunciation is the length of each phoneme isn't pronounced equal with others. All phonemes are pronounced equal except for the long vowels.
Your Japanese is very nice, however, you've got a very heavy American accent haven't you? Still working on getting rid of my own Dutch accent though ^^
yeah, good job. i may try and learn it in the future.
One thing though: work on presentation skills, you were kneading your pant legs throughout. They must think we are a bunch of pantleg kneading mutants now.
Hello everyone, nice to meet you. My name is Sage Wright. I am 15. I am a junior in highschool. There are five people in my family: my dad, my mom, my big brother and my little brother, but my big brother doesnt live in our house. My dad is 60 and hes already retired. 40 years ago, he lived in japan for 4 years....
My mother is 52. She is very kind. My older brother is 24. He is cool. My brother is 12. He is funny. As for pets, I have a dog. 2 Japanese students have stayed in my house. Takumi Nishino and Ryo Shimagami. I was impressed by how well they spoke English. I have studied Japanese for 1 year and 4 months...
This is my second time coming to Japan. I would like to be fluent in Japanese. In college, i want to major in Japanese language. As for a job, I want english teacher. I am honored to be at your school. please be kind to me.
you certainly made your classmates giggle alot, you sounded very good too. it was kinda start and stop but then again, i speak worse than that giving a speech in english lmao
sage you are such a nerd. lol but at least you acn speak japanese. i suck at it but as you insisted i'm taking 3rd year...hopefully one day i'l be able to understand what you're saying. :)
I had only studied Japanese for about a year and a half when I made that speech. I've been motivated to learn quickly by the Japanese students that I've hosted. The school that im at in this video is the school of two of the Japanese students I've hosted in America
oh thats cool, i did live in japan for 3 years but since i did not go to a japanese school i do not know as well but know much, yet have much to learn
wow..that was nice...too bad i know little japanese when I delivered my speech during my exchange student days...waah.. i so envy you...honto ni sugoi!! omedetou!!

Is your teacher not teaching you proper accent?
Beejeebus, man.
You should watch some good anime.
Get that accent down pat.
Yomioka 2 years ago
@Yomioka No offense but anime doesn't teach you Japanese nor does manga. It helps, but you need to learn it properly. Classes and textbooks.
dramaxxteen 2 years ago
I didn't say anything about learning the language from the anime.
I said ACCENT can be learn from listening to people. Japanese people. In anime.
Yeah.

DominicanDP809 3 years ago
Nah, it was in a formal setting and I was speaking in front of teachers as well as students. "Watashi" is not for females only. I used it correctly.
I said boku after the speech when I talked to the students individually or in small groups.
TheWhiteStripes3 3 years ago 3
