Before you watch endurance, read or listen to the book first, I think you will "feel" it more, and yes, I mean feel. You will feel the cold, starvation and their pain and you will understand their obstacles more. It is an amazingly true story.
I made it as far as 0:43 of your video last night then checked Netflix for the movie Alive. They didn't have it to stream, but they did have a documentary called Stranded, with the actual people, photos they took and news footage of their return. I stayed up til 1a.m. watching it! Poor guys.... I couldn't believe the reporter asked them right off the bat, "What did you eat???" *awkward* It's amazing what people can get through. Thanks for the list!
dude watch the movie The Day of the Animals from 1977. it has so truth to it. when the world goes crazy. u have to think what will happen to everybody pets. there will be big packs of dogs & other animals on the lost. beside worry about food, water, shelter, so crazy dude try to take ya stuff. you will have to deal with all the hungry animals. it's a idea think about it. :-)
Demcad...I just watched "Sophie Scholl". WOW...very powerful, yet very, very depressing. This is where I see our country heading. I might add...this is NOT a survival film so it's a bit off topic.
Have you watched A CRY IN THE WILD...it's based on the book HATCHET...about a kid that crashes in alaska and has to survive on his own with nothing but a hatchet. it's pretty sweet movie.
a movie released just before the cuban missile crisiss " panic in the year zero " is about what the survivors of a nuclear attack might go thru. it even has frankie avalon in it but it really is a great movie for preppers
Nice list; thanks-there are a few I have not seen on your list and will now check out. Here is one you might like to review regarding survival in the wilderness:
The Snow Walker: Barry Pepper, Annabella Piugattuk, James ... Ellen Dinerman Little, John Houston, Michael Ohoven, Farley Mowat: ... Kanaalaq teaches skills to survive
Another TV series I enjoyed for the brief time it was running was Jericho (2006) - terrorist attacks occur in major US cities and the little town of Jericho has to fend for it's self as they are cut off from the world.
How about the TV Series Jeremiah (2002)? The premise is a virus is released that wipes out all the Adults (those who've reached puberty). It's set a 10-20 years after the disaster and you mostly follow the character Jeremiah (Luke Perry) as they try to rebuild Society and struggle for power ensues.
Got one for you: Into the Wild (2007) - "After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life." - It's a slow and thought provoking film.
I just remembered an old movie that was really good called Death Hunt (1981) starring Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin. The plot takes place in the 1930s in The Northern Territory of Canada as Marvin plays as a Mountie. Bronson is a lone trapper that gets into a conflict that pits him against a posse. I highly recommend it as it features two great actors in this film.
The Postman, was one of the greatest survival (and maybe to some extent, realistic) movies made, it did'nt do that well at the box office, but everyone I know thinks it's an awesome movie..
i really like book of eli ALOT my other favs are children of men its about survival of the human race and i recently watched a russsian war movie called the 9th company on hulu i thought it was gonna suck in the beggining cuz it eas all in sub titles (russian) i fn (LOVED IT) its about their afgan war back in the 80s great movie
I would not had put cliffhanger in this list, in that case book of eli would it been there. What about The Grey ot The way Back what about The Hatchet. Any ways here is my list:
Red Dawn, Alive, Jeremiah Jonhson, Lord of the flies, Dances with Wolves, Robinson Crusoe, The postman, The Road, Water World, Behind Enemies Line, Rambo, White fang, I want to say Independens day but would it qualify. I cant think of any other right now
There was a show called Jericho that I watched before it got shitcanned. Was about America getting nuked and people coming together and forming new communities and establishing leaders. The "lovey dovey" crap in it sucked but the premise was interesting.
@IAm010110 I agree. It was a very good show with a good plot. The only thing that ruined it was as you say, the "lovey dovey" crap. I wished they continued on with a third season, but for some reason they didn't.
Demcad;wish I lived closer to you!!! I would bring the Popcorn & we could enjoy a Movie Marathon!!! I would definately like to be your Prepper Buddy!!!
Red Dawn; my all-time favorite. I loved it way before I even thought about the need to prep. Aren't they coming out with a revised re-make of this movie??Hope they don't screw it up too much. Also-I know it is"Fantasy"with a lot of"Supernatural"crap in it-but Stepen King's,The Stand has a lot of insight as to what would be needed to clean-up&survive after a major disaster w/ a lot of dead bodies to deal with. Also how people would have to come together& form a community to help each other.
I can't take you seriously with that hate sir.....Oh my pardon me I didn't know that full size .45 cal glock on your hip I'm your willing student please teach me.......
Bravo Two Zero I would recommend for getting an insite into challenges in evasion from a large enemy force. Based on a true story about a British SAS team going behind enemy lines in the first Iraq war and end up having to evade capture. It shows the difficulties the team encounters in regards to weather condition changes as they had to ditch their gear to increase their mobility.
all great movies. I have quite a few of them on dvd. The worst part is when he cuts his arm off in 127 hours. That part turns my stomach but he had to do what he had to. good stuff.
The road being a post apocalyptic movie there is a lot of talk of the cause definitely not emp it would not cause all the ash and lack of sunlight it would have to be volcanic or most likely an asteroid impact
@HayseedUSA ; I think it was Nukes. But they don't even give you a hint of what caused it. Very depressing movie; unfortunately, I believe things would be even worse& we would turn on each other even more than the movie shows. But-a must watch for preppers who want to survive.
Defiance is possibly my favorite movie, period. Definitely way up there... based on a true story too! First Blood is way up there as well.... As for something not mentioned, it's fantasy stuff, but Reign of Fire is awesome.
The Omega Man - the power of pussy will get you killed, kids will get you killed and albino primitivist cults will get you killed.
Cyborg - the power of pussy will get you killed, kids will get you killed and repetitive jump-spinning roundhouses will get you killed because you can't do that sh*t, son.
Mad Max/The Road Warrior - the power of pussy will get you killed, kids will get you killed and sexually ambiguous bikers hungry for unleaded will get you killed.
"The Road" helped me visualize SHTF situations. but most of all it showed me the importance of stocking up on socks and shoes. practical shoes and or boots that is. especially for growing children. I have personally went to payless and bought many pairs of cheepo shoes from my sons current size to a projected size of an 18 year old
Hey Demcad, check out BLINDNESS. I haven't seen it yet but a friend told me about it. It's not a mainstream movie but it does star Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo. Essentially it's about a disease that blinds a huge percentage of people in the world . Would love to know what you think of it.
Frank Capra's Beyond the Blue Horizon thats way..way back plane crashs in the Himalayan Mts and the survivors find paradise.... The people who are there can never leave (they shrivel up to powder) there is one man who leaves... Gets back to tell people about it and they think he's mad. He says F-you & finds his way back... Its paradise !
A little corny but ok movie takes place after WW3, Damnation Alley 1977, And I believe within the last year or 2 someone restored the Tri wheel bug out vehicle that was used in that movie. The vehicle has 3 wheels at the end of each axle and can rotate or spin if one of the tires drops into a low spot in the terrain, so it kinda glides over monster pot holes. George Peppard from A-Team TV series stars in it with Jan-Michael Vincent
If they're already dead they don't need their meat any more. If it were me that went first. I would hope some one would eat my remains if it were their only chance of survival. My body is not what makes me it's my mind and if it's gone well then what ever.
My dear DEMCAD, your now giving reviews of telescreen images, to that of which were ONLY created to obstruct, brainwash, and corrupt human consciousness?!? Hollywood should never be a source of information of any kind whatsoever! No offense intended, even the best of us need reminding if what is right & what is easily accessible. Take care
REMNANTS !!! yea that will be a awesome movie ( when released in 2012, hopefully before real SHTF breakes out :D )
/
The Road is really good too, most likely outcome of a EMP/Grid-down situation.. yea ist scary and depressing ans so forth.. and thats what makes it so special, its like real grit, period.
I tried to watch it with some friends, and they just could not watch it after say 10-15 min..
too depressing for them.. talk about major denial and comfort-zone mentality..
My dad took me to see The Road Warrior when I was a kid. Dad was so cool! At the beginning of the movie they explain gas prices going up and the wars, how we got here then the movie. Wow their was a conspiracy theorist!
i think that any one that eats another person for any reason is a scoundrel and not intelligent enough to find a better solution - i personally have no respect for people like that -i don't care "what it was like" -no excuse
How about a couple of oldies..."Island in the sky" John Wayne classic. And for the apocolyptic crowd " Panic in the Year ZERO" Ray Milland and Jean Hagen. YES, I am Showing my age......
Not a movie, but Jericho was fantastic...best television series of all time imo. If you have Netflix streaming, watch the first episode and you'll be hooked

If they're already dead they don't need their meat any more. If it were me that went first. I would hope some one would eat my remains if it were their only chance of survival. My body is not what makes me it's my mind and if it's gone well then what ever.

I don't know if you would really consider it a true survival movie or not but how bout "Shooter"?

"the grey" not very realistic but it ends about how most survival situations end.

Take care

@JasonsFamilyLife How dare he actually not talk about prepping 24/7! Demcad, you are not allowed to relax and watch a movie once and while!

The Shackelton Adventure is a classic survival story.

I read these stories as a teenager, and they really influenced my desire to improve my self-reliance and camping skills.
"To Build a Fire" a short story by Jack London
"My Side of the Mountain" is a 1959 children's novel by Jean Craighead George
I'm not sure if they were ever made in to movies, but they are great stories.
freesk8 1 month ago
@freesk8 I agree. Jack London is great.

All these movies named are good but I think you should go all the way back to "Soylent Green" with Charleton Heston.
