It may not have been a good idea to gas the entire theater. It directly led to the deaths of many hostages. On the flip side. There was the threat of bombs that could potentially kill everyone in the theater. This was a difficult situation and someone had to make a hard decision. it is easy for history to critique this incident in hindsight. However we do not have the right unless we understand the gravity of making such a decision.
I disagree, with Harbinger, sorry but i think a group of commandos, the Russian elite, can mange to take down a bunch of Chechen militants. The use of gas was quite savage and barbaric. But worst still, it was an unknown agent, the victims of the deadly toxin could be saved but the type or name of the toxin wasn't released causing a vast number or Russian deaths.
i don't know why the chechen separatists didn't bring gas masks w/ nbc filters but whatever... vlad putin should of just given them the money, plane, & withdraw troops from chechnya. i wouldn't fuck w/ these people
tht was nt the correct way to make russia withdraw thier forces...so many innocent ppl were killed...bt i dnt know tht thy r freedom figher or terrirists...bt they also lost thier families ..who were killed by russ attack.....
I only heard about this the other day on a show called "Seconds from Disaster" on National Geographic channel. I don't think that we hear enough about the Russian/Chechen conflict in America, the news never tells us anything, all they say is that people die over there, they never explain anything! I added this to my favorites, I hope more people watch it and find out more about the problem.
You know I really have to say that more Americans need to hear more about these things. We hear it on the news sometimes, but all they say is that people died, they don't explain anything. I only heard about this the other day on a show on National Geographic called "Seconds from Disaster". I put this on my Favorites list, hopefully more people will watch it and find out about what's really happening there.
Regardless of what it lead to unfortunately, it could've been way worst, the ALFAs strategy couldn't have worked more better than it did because without that gas, you would expect them to storm in a theater room filled with high explosives & guns mixed in with hundreds of hostages & suicidals within them, gas in opinion was best option considering the scale of the situation, problem was they needed a gas that would hit hard & fast enough the captors be too euphoric to know they're being stormed.
I'm all for minorities gaining independenc until they start killing people. If the Chechnyans really want independance, then they are going about this all wrong.
What pisses me off is that in one of the videos they would even mention the fact that one of the terrorists was shot in the temple, when they were possibly already knocked out by the gas. I would have shot those lowly sons of bitches myself, out or not out. Those people do not deserve to live. Brutality my ass.
you cant compare the gravity of the situation there with the moscow seige theater. its a small embassy with few hostages. ands this ones a theater with hundreds of hostages
Most of the victims died from fentanyl poisoning, because the first aid workers (due to no fault of their own since the govt did not tell them about the gas used )were ready to treat gun shot wounds, so many aspirated on their own vomit or tongues , since they were put flat on the floor. those poor people, I can only imagine how terrified they were RIP.

The special forces did a good job, but nobody is perfect. Nobody could have known how it would end, and i don't think that any of you suckers could pan it better.
One can always rely on the stupid and incompetent fsb and so-called child killers at 'spetsnatz' to kill their own people. During the theatre siege, they killed over 127 of their own pigs! Well done mockali! Well done! Sons of Bandera.
a non-lethal but incapacitating dose of the opioid drug used (some say fentanyl) proved to be very effective and LEGAL as its use did not breach the regulations of the chemical weapons convention. excellent tactical job by specnaz and other authorities. the chechens were offered safe passage in exchange for hostages, but refused and made unrealistic demands and threatened to kill everyone. couldn't hope for a better outcome
agreed, the only critique I have is that they kept the composition a secret for a while, other than that they did an excellent job and saved so many lives
putting civilian in wars is forbidden in islam these people do wrong thing but even though the government that should adjudge them should be muslim one
for me it just shows that for the russian military cares more about gaining 'victory' over the chechens - than it does about protecting the lives of their own citizens.
The real problem was, that hostages were there too long so the gas paralized their lungs so they died. Spetsnaz done their job - they killed all the terrorists.
One more thing: chechens have guns - they aren't civilians. They do not have an army - they aren't soldiers (and - it's very important too! - soldiers don't take hostages). It means chechens are just terrorists.
I'm really sorry about the victims, but there was only one chance: all hostages will die or just less. The idea of the gas was great, special forces too. The situation ended sad, but there were survivers - in an absolutelly mined building. So, I'm sure, that it was a good job. Maybe the medical supply wasn't so great - doctors didn't know anything about the gas, that was a fault, but it's not the doctors fault.
Just to get clear for every person. In hostage rescue there is never a guarantee of 100% rescue. Fifty terrorist and again all wired explosives. Dont compare a hollywood movie or you country special force. Every special force is quivalen thats why its special and would face the same problem in that situation.
I know pretty well why the gas was used in the 1st place and it was a good decision given the circumstances, i ment to say that it was stupid not to give away enough info so that adequate medical help could be given to the fictims after the assault (thats when most deaths accured). Would you call me a Lithuanian Monkey in person you ingorant ragtag? I wont take the liberty of judging all british by just one poor example such as yourself
I guess monkey was a bit harsh. Sorry :). U see am not british am russian i live in U.K. In person I would say it! No need to dare me. I am optimistic person and i will say it simple "I am sorry keep it cool"
A well executed storm, yes. But the russians them selves are responsible for killing a shit load of hostages, becouse the info on what gas was used was released far to late. If they would have told the medical staff imediatly, then at least they could have gave them adequate medical help, and more people would live. But fuck NOOO!!! Since when does russia actualy care for its own people...
Oi Lithuania Monkey! You have no clue what you are talking about. And about the gas. Americans offered to help very nice. They offered to try thier gas apparently less harmfull ^^. Siqis72 you definetly dont know why that gas was used based on situatution.
In other words, to what extent are these events staged promos for security forces? I know 9-11 was such a promo event, for a variety of reasons including cloaked official statements in books and such about security and manipulating the public through emotions, "new Pearl Harbor type event" and other public statements. CIA = KGB = FSB?
I read a rumor -- rumor mind you, I don't know for sure -- that the terrorists at Beslan actually got explosives or weapons via the police, and that the building was SEALED by authorities prior to the hostage-taking. Comments sincerely appreciated, I don't mean to be rude.
special forces did all they could. gas killed people, but i dont think it was a mistake, they all could die. Watch this video carefully and think before saying that chechen people fight for freedom...they are terrorists
The Special forces did it brilliantly i watched a tv documentary they only lost one guy. From Beslan and this it makes me angry and i have no sympathy why muslims (terrorists) always be portrayed as victims. Checnya deserves bombing after this.
well! i really admire russian special forces in this case. They could rescue so many people from this mess of bomb around although some were dead. However, saving 750 out of nearly 1000 was a great job since chechen terrorists could have been killing all.
man.. this video is reaaaaal deep... i like the cut, the music backgroound, and specially the images... its very sad and very terrible what happened there, i know you live like me in Europe and like me you also have terrorist experience in your country.. its very difficult to calm down and be neutral in the world...
Hi Adrienne. Thanks for stopping by and watching my latest vid. It was a terribly sad thing to happen and unfortunately I don't think It's the last time we'll see this sort of evil thing happening.
That's the problem. Now, what's the solution since we know that it will happen again. Will it happen in our own backyard? What can we do on a continuing basis to make sure that all backyards are safe?
The tribute is moving since it also demonstrates, and that, quite clearly, that this could, indeed, happen anywhere. What can be done to rebuild individual country's infrastructure in such a way that the change is permanent, not illusory? Micro loans to individuals in countries is a good first step. Continuous communication, another perhaps via the Google YouTube.
This terrorist group also took over a school in Beslan Russia in Sept 2004. The consequences of that siege where the deaths of most of the children when the russian forces stormed the building after a siege of a few days. I can remember watching it Live on TV feeling awful and disgusted at what I was witnessing.
Terrrorism is definately on the rise, regardless of what our governments tell us. It's been a weakness of all nations since the dawn of humanity. Us Americans used it against the British back in the Revolutionary war to gain freedom. The French did it in the Revolutionary war. Fighting an army is different than fighting a few people willing to take their lives with other innocents. Scary.
The Spetznaz took a real hit to their reputation in this event. Hard to imagine a worse outcome.
Unfortunately, the objective of the extremist Muslims was to provoke worse attrocities against Muslims. It's all a sort of twisted recruiting drive, intended to radicalize Muslims the world over. 9/11 was the same sort of thing, and we've responded just as they'd hoped we would. It's no consolation that Russia has been just as stupid in its response.
What might be alternative responses? Where does this end? Perpetual warfare? Perpetual conflict on a global basis? At what point do we put down the guns of war, the missiles, bombs, and begin to address the legitimate needs of people throughout the globe?
The real battle, one we have not fought intelligently, is for the hearts and minds of Muslims world-wide. They must decide their future: will it be to seek a single theocratic superstate? Will it be bloody rebellion against the leaders they now have? Will they fight it out between rival sects? How will they engage with the rest of the world: as enemies or as peers?
The extremists have one set of answers. Our leaders have not even studied the questions.
It was a truly sad event that was carried out by individuals that truly believed that they were justifyed to carry this out. The same group that did this hostage also carried out the more recent siege in a russian school in Beslan. Hundreds of children got killed in that one...
I remember seein' this on the news here in the states. Fucking senseless violence. Terrorists should be dealt with like cockroaches, exterminate each and every fucking one of them.
Problem with cockroaches is that they will be the only things to survive a nuclear holocaust. It is impossible to get rid of them once they've established a territory or home, if you will.
It is very hard to keep track of who is killing who & what the underlying basic issues are. It is a never ending lesson in history and current affairs that we are lacking. I subscribe to BBC news and I find that I get a much better, ongoing picture, sometimes in snapshot form, of what is taking place globally. Governments work on national self-interest, often forgetting the rights of the people that they so intently trample upon at will.
You might check out the BBC. From time to time, they run commentary on both sides of conflicts. What they feel, what they have undergone, tragic losses that they have suffered and do suffer now. I read about the Lebanese vs. Israeli perspective from the eyes, ears, hearts and minds of the people who were affected by what was going on & it was quite revealing in its candor.
They trample upon us because we allow them to. It is our actions that create the environment for the politicians, and thats why they are the way they are. If anyones to blame, it is ourselves. Blaming the government is just another ploy humans use to alleviate responsibility.
Also, I recall this from tv but was never quite sure what it was about. Obviously taking hostages and killing them is not a way to get a govt to leave a region, but what was the belief of the hostage-takers? Was it a wish for secession? I never understood much of the entire region's politics of that era and other wars, no matter how much I read about it. I would like to hear from actual people and learn?
I don't know whether he can do this or not, but it surely kept me interested. I find that I like this sort of documentary approach rather than the video games tha, to me, seem rather mindless and inconsequential. I know that many millions of people swear by the video games. I am not one of those, however.
I do 3 sorts of clips on YouTUBE. My vlogs are like my diary, My Mini movies are just little films that I've made that I thought I'd share with people. The games related clips are really just related to one of my hobbies and will only really appeal to people that play them. I like to keep a decent variety of clips so that there is something for everyone to enjoy from my collection. d;-)
Now you tell me. **smiles with delight & the sudden lightning flash of recognition**
I thought that you were only interested in video games, SniperK2. You have risen highly in stature in my journal as a result of that belated recognition of your brilliant concept for your channel.
Thank you. It is quite a 'Hectic' style with lots of information to take in but I think I pulled it off quite well. I tried to show what was happening from each parties perspective during the siege at any one time, so you see footage of the Hostages, Terrorists and Russian forces at same time.
Problem I had with prior viewings was figuring out who was who. The so called "good guys" & "bad guys" dilemma. They should wear different colors to make it easier for us to distinguish them. **joke**
Important to remember the past. Good repetitive beat - almost like a heartbeat thumping. This puts you there physically with the documentary feel. The titles running below and all over is an interesting technique. I didn't feel that it distracted from the visual elements. Tragic situation. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
It seems as thought a nation's heart is slowly dying. I didn't mean to comment so much on the technique of filmmaking when there were real meaningful moments where people died. In this case, I made an exception because these are the types of films that I wish people would pay attention to. This is partly in response to your later comment, RiverBirch1967.
Far too many people died in this particular incident, not from gun fire but from the Gas that was used to incapacitate everyone. The russian forces would not disclose the details of the gas to the medical autthorities. This information would have helped save many more of the civilians lives.
they said that inside of medical authorities were rats that worked for people wwho give info to chechens. They diod absolutely right thing not telling until some time
I meant that as a metaphor for the heartbeat of a nation. The pulse of the people - Their lifeblood which is slowly being drained by the spilling of blood. Children in hospitals waiting for blood transfusions and the heart monitor constantly monitoring progress, saving some, losing most. It is the captivating sense of a people who have been tragically wiped out.
Thanks for the feedback Cat. I used that particular music track because I liked the flow of the music. It built up to a good peak when you see the Spetznas assaulting the building and then trails off nicely with the aftermath.
My 4th visit. I thought that you did a masterful job of montage. I salute you. I know that this event must have been meaningful to you since you remembered to commemorate it from 4 years ago. I was left at the end with the feeling of "when will this happen again." At what point will the grievances of people be settled. Perhaps I know the answer to that.
You chose wisely. It was frighteningly effective. Hypnotic. Trance inducing. Relentless as if the forces of fear & war had run amuk over everything in its path.
shocking tradgedy. I remember seeing this in the news, so horrible knowing things like that are happening and you're completely helpless. I really don't know what I would do if I had been the decision maker for the Russian special forces.
It was a terrible tragedy Sam. I can remember watching it LIVE on Sky News. The Rescue operation should have been handled in a better way than it was. Most of the deaths were caused by the gas that the Russian forces used to try and incapacitate the Terrorists.
4th visit. I know that they are not operating in virgin territory. The special forces should have prepared for events like this as part of their ongoing training. After all, it has been 5 years since events of 9/11. So many needless deaths wasted in the prime flowering parts of their lives. Was there any apology by the Russians afterwards?
if they didnt use that gas - all 700 hunbdred hostages and 100 soldiers of spetsnaz would die. The terrorists started to kill hostages, remember dumbass?
Very well made.
informative, interesting and fits with the music.

Mabey not for sure, but I wouldnt have said "Hey, this is a great time to test that opium gas!" I would have gone with tear gas.
watchfulstorm 4 years ago
One can always rely on the stupid and incompetent fsb and so-called child killers at 'spetsnatz' to kill their own people. During the theatre siege, they killed over 127 of their own pigs! Well done mockali! Well done! Sons of Bandera.
wmarz 4 years ago
a non-lethal but incapacitating dose of the opioid drug used (some say fentanyl) proved to be very effective and LEGAL as its use did not breach the regulations of the chemical weapons convention. excellent tactical job by specnaz and other authorities. the chechens were offered safe passage in exchange for hostages, but refused and made unrealistic demands and threatened to kill everyone. couldn't hope for a better outcome
advance468 4 years ago
agreed, the only critique I have is that they kept the composition a secret for a while, other than that they did an excellent job and saved so many lives

putting civilian in wars is forbidden in islam these people do wrong thing but even though the government that should adjudge them should be muslim one
doomhesoka55 4 years ago
No talks with terrorists. The Russian spetsnaz will destroy every chechen bandit.
sunairwater 5 years ago
for me it just shows that for the russian military cares more about gaining 'victory' over the chechens - than it does about protecting the lives of their own citizens.
who caused the most death of innocent civilians?
liliaaaaaaaa 5 years ago
The real problem was, that hostages were there too long so the gas paralized their lungs so they died. Spetsnaz done their job - they killed all the terrorists.
Polenar 5 years ago
One more thing: chechens have guns - they aren't civilians. They do not have an army - they aren't soldiers (and - it's very important too! - soldiers don't take hostages). It means chechens are just terrorists.
pr945b 5 years ago
Great job! (I mean the video of course.)
I'm really sorry about the victims, but there was only one chance: all hostages will die or just less. The idea of the gas was great, special forces too. The situation ended sad, but there were survivers - in an absolutelly mined building. So, I'm sure, that it was a good job. Maybe the medical supply wasn't so great - doctors didn't know anything about the gas, that was a fault, but it's not the doctors fault.
pr945b 5 years ago
Just to get clear for every person. In hostage rescue there is never a guarantee of 100% rescue. Fifty terrorist and again all wired explosives. Dont compare a hollywood movie or you country special force. Every special force is quivalen thats why its special and would face the same problem in that situation.
SFLegacy 5 years ago
I know pretty well why the gas was used in the 1st place and it was a good decision given the circumstances, i ment to say that it was stupid not to give away enough info so that adequate medical help could be given to the fictims after the assault (thats when most deaths accured). Would you call me a Lithuanian Monkey in person you ingorant ragtag? I wont take the liberty of judging all british by just one poor example such as yourself
sigis72 5 years ago
I guess monkey was a bit harsh. Sorry :). U see am not british am russian i live in U.K. In person I would say it! No need to dare me. I am optimistic person and i will say it simple "I am sorry keep it cool"
SFLegacy 5 years ago
A well executed storm, yes. But the russians them selves are responsible for killing a shit load of hostages, becouse the info on what gas was used was released far to late. If they would have told the medical staff imediatly, then at least they could have gave them adequate medical help, and more people would live. But fuck NOOO!!! Since when does russia actualy care for its own people...
sigis72 5 years ago
Oi Lithuania Monkey! You have no clue what you are talking about. And about the gas. Americans offered to help very nice. They offered to try thier gas apparently less harmfull ^^. Siqis72 you definetly dont know why that gas was used based on situatution.
SFLegacy 5 years ago
This was actually a well-executed storm, contrary to what most westerners are saying
If ONE thing went wrong, everyone would have died because of the way the Chechens wired the theater.
The Spetsnaz had only three days to do it.
The gas HAD to be powerful enough to incapacitate all terrorists, one terrorist could trigger the whole thing.
People who say this was horribly done should fuck off and die.
Mintos11 5 years ago
Yes, you are right. So many hostages died, because the storm assault was done secretly and no ambulance was called.
The assault was quickly over, but people didn knew that so no one went in that building to help for a long time .
Polenar 5 years ago
There was no other way to do it. If they messed up, everyone would have died. Given the circumstances, this was pulled off remarkably well.

Exotnik 5 years ago
The Special forces did it brilliantly i watched a tv documentary they only lost one guy. From Beslan and this it makes me angry and i have no sympathy why muslims (terrorists) always be portrayed as victims. Checnya deserves bombing after this.
uibalex 5 years ago
Brillantly? Dozens of hostages died. It was a mess.
johnson01 5 years ago
Yes but that was the government not telling the medical services what the gas was.
uibalex 5 years ago
well! i really admire russian special forces in this case. They could rescue so many people from this mess of bomb around although some were dead. However, saving 750 out of nearly 1000 was a great job since chechen terrorists could have been killing all.

BarronNevermore 5 years ago
The tribute is moving since it also demonstrates, and that, quite clearly, that this could, indeed, happen anywhere. What can be done to rebuild individual country's infrastructure in such a way that the change is permanent, not illusory? Micro loans to individuals in countries is a good first step. Continuous communication, another perhaps via the Google YouTube.

Scary.
BarronNevermore 5 years ago
It's a never ending ugly battle. There are always going to be groups of people that are prepared to die (and kill innocents) for their 'cause'.
xxSniperK2xx 5 years ago
A sad tale.
Urgelt 5 years ago
I've noticed the same.
"cat"
dadhiltonmps 5 years ago
What might be alternative responses? Where does this end? Perpetual warfare? Perpetual conflict on a global basis? At what point do we put down the guns of war, the missiles, bombs, and begin to address the legitimate needs of people throughout the globe?
"cat"
dadhiltonmps 5 years ago
The real battle, one we have not fought intelligently, is for the hearts and minds of Muslims world-wide. They must decide their future: will it be to seek a single theocratic superstate? Will it be bloody rebellion against the leaders they now have? Will they fight it out between rival sects? How will they engage with the rest of the world: as enemies or as peers?
The extremists have one set of answers. Our leaders have not even studied the questions.
Urgelt 5 years ago
It was a truly sad event that was carried out by individuals that truly believed that they were justifyed to carry this out. The same group that did this hostage also carried out the more recent siege in a russian school in Beslan. Hundreds of children got killed in that one...

sneakypreacher 5 years ago
Problem with cockroaches is that they will be the only things to survive a nuclear holocaust. It is impossible to get rid of them once they've established a territory or home, if you will.

It is very hard to keep track of who is killing who & what the underlying basic issues are. It is a never ending lesson in history and current affairs that we are lacking. I subscribe to BBC news and I find that I get a much better, ongoing picture, sometimes in snapshot form, of what is taking place globally. Governments work on national self-interest, often forgetting the rights of the people that they so intently trample upon at will.
"cat"
"cat"
dadhiltonmps 5 years ago
You might check out the BBC. From time to time, they run commentary on both sides of conflicts. What they feel, what they have undergone, tragic losses that they have suffered and do suffer now. I read about the Lebanese vs. Israeli perspective from the eyes, ears, hearts and minds of the people who were affected by what was going on & it was quite revealing in its candor.
"cat"
dadhiltonmps 5 years ago
Do you know why the Russians were in Chechnya in the first place?
"cat"
dadhiltonmps 5 years ago
They trample upon us because we allow them to. It is our actions that create the environment for the politicians, and thats why they are the way they are. If anyones to blame, it is ourselves. Blaming the government is just another ploy humans use to alleviate responsibility.
mhesi 5 years ago
The way you filmed this is a work of art; I'd like to urge you to keep up this sort of technique.
RiverBirch1967 5 years ago
Also, I recall this from tv but was never quite sure what it was about. Obviously taking hostages and killing them is not a way to get a govt to leave a region, but what was the belief of the hostage-takers? Was it a wish for secession? I never understood much of the entire region's politics of that era and other wars, no matter how much I read about it. I would like to hear from actual people and learn?
RiverBirch1967 5 years ago
Their ultimate aim is to push Russia out of Chechyna. They want their independance and use terrorism to attempt to get that result.
xxSniperK2xx 5 years ago
I don't know whether he can do this or not, but it surely kept me interested. I find that I like this sort of documentary approach rather than the video games tha, to me, seem rather mindless and inconsequential. I know that many millions of people swear by the video games. I am not one of those, however.

Thank you. It is quite a 'Hectic' style with lots of information to take in but I think I pulled it off quite well. I tried to show what was happening from each parties perspective during the siege at any one time, so you see footage of the Hostages, Terrorists and Russian forces at same time.

"cat"
dadhiltonmps 5 years ago
Yes the heartbeat effect is captivating!
RiverBirch1967 5 years ago
It seems as thought a nation's heart is slowly dying. I didn't mean to comment so much on the technique of filmmaking when there were real meaningful moments where people died. In this case, I made an exception because these are the types of films that I wish people would pay attention to. This is partly in response to your later comment, RiverBirch1967.

Far too many people died in this particular incident, not from gun fire but from the Gas that was used to incapacitate everyone. The russian forces would not disclose the details of the gas to the medical autthorities. This information would have helped save many more of the civilians lives.

I meant that as a metaphor for the heartbeat of a nation. The pulse of the people - Their lifeblood which is slowly being drained by the spilling of blood. It is the captivating sense of a people who have been tragically wiped out.

It was a terrible tragedy Sam. I can remember watching it LIVE on Sky News. The Rescue operation should have been handled in a better way than it was. Most of the deaths were caused by the gas that the Russian forces used to try and incapacitate the Terrorists.
