FOR ALL REAL PEOPEL!! NOT FOR LYERS! FOR REAL PEOPEL! REAL PEOPEL UNDERSTAND ME! HEY QUINCY JONES WAZZUP?!
The great thing about Miles is not only the incredible energy his music captures but that he often used younger unknown players and used their take on contempory music to make his own style and get them known.
"The abundance of FM synth tones in 80's fusion is somewhat unfortunate, just have to ignore them and it's not so bad. "
Well said, Digimaton... I have to agree with you, even though I'm a bigger fan of the 70-75 period myself. I love Henderson and Foster, but these guys are pretty good, too...
these guys are certainly pretty good too, plus whatever the naysayers might say about Miles in the 80's, he did his own thing, found his own sound, and got some of best in the business to play it.
Who else could have pulled off Jazz-Funk-Go Go at that time?
Sure, the first years of the electric era certainly can't be surpassed. But fake? this rocks as hard as any of the Fortune, Cosey, Lucas, Henderson, Foster, Mtume era stuff, it's just a different generation of great musicians, all of whom were for real. The abundance of FM synth tones in 80's fusion is somewhat unfortunate, just have to ignore them and it's not so bad.
@digimaton What you're saying is true - the main bass/keyboard riff, starting at 0:33 sounds identical to the one on Side 2 of Agharta. Maybe approaching this era of Miles in such a way will help Hashwizard like it better.
@digimaton It is on Tutu. Called Opening medley

@pattilakes @digimaton do yourself a favour and check out the complete Montreux live cd box set - if you like this you will not regret it;
one phonecall (furiously paced - compare to Miles in Montreal '85
becomes a Prince tune and then really takes off Out There... ('Nam style)

I never dug this fake 80's fusion with no balls timeframe. Anything from 69-73 destroys this.
