may i ask you where to get this big tuner scale from? i am planing to start building a tube fm radio in the next couple of months. i will also use a EM84 magic eye.
14 tubes are sucking lots of ampere power...even at 12 volt? but im impressed. nice project.
Fantastic work! I'm thinking about getting back into Amateur Radio, but am wondering about what to do if I find out that the tubes in my old rigs...(SB-30n and KW 520 SE), are blown.
@984francis I did most of the chassis layout and all the schematic by hand, these have not been scanned as of yet. Even though I'm proficient with Autocad, I wanted to experience what it would have been like "back in the day". The design is basically a conglomeration of the typical individual stage circuits in the 1948 Amateur handbook. There are several good projects in the 1948 book also. In my opinion the handbooks from the 40's seem to be the best reading for this sort of project.
Great job - beautiful workmanship. Anything I ever built with tubes left blood stains on the chassis. It's gratifying to see someone take the time and put in the effort to built something like this.
Wow what a terrific project! Congratualtions. I really enjoyed seeing your handiwork and can appreciate all of the manhours that went into building the set. Tubes are still alive --and that warm sound is unbeatable! Thanks for sharing! de N6QW
@mylowproject They're all hand drawn, I haven't scanned them yet. I made some changes to the design while it was on the bench which haven't made it from the note book to the schematic yet. Most of the overall schematic is made up of the typical circuits in the 1948 Amateur handbook.
I want to play with it's knobs! FB Project. I wonder what (if any) dial printer software you used. Those ganged tuning caps are band-switched in as you go down in freq I assume. Sounds sweet. Does the dial glow with at least some #47 bulbs? 73 DE WW2W Tony
that is what i Like, i hate transistor/IC radio noise... I think every radioamateur should build its own tube radio....
Amaturs is not about go to shop and buy new radio, it something more...
I made 11 000 QSO on tube RX...

Superb Work, both the construction and as far as I can see, the design. Are the design and construction details available?
