@EDKsurly yeah thats the tour im seeing them on, I live in northern CT so they are coming to outside of boston and in hartford so im probably going to both those shows, also i might see katatonia on their last fair deal gone down 10th anniversary tour with a surprise guest
I love the african drums, or bongo's or whatever in this song. I think it gives the song a whole new dimension. It's soooo unique, and makes it sound good.
Burn the rememrance is of course because I wanted to forgot her, Stone the crow has almost the same meaning, but is also attached with other problems... Misantrophe is because I felt the lack of interest in humanity at that time
@GraysonDean1990 I love how you said SHITTY RAP AND POP. 2pac and Frank Sinatra were great artist. Todays rap and pop is..........less than fake, worth less than nothing.
@Darkinozuki there are always good artist in every genre but that doesn't change the fact that most of rap/pop industry is filled with artists whose goal is to earn money and they're willing to change their image based on market.
For example, Ludacris, the guy sings w/ justin bieber these days...what happened to the hardcore Atlanta Rapper? You really don't think money is not behind this?
@Darkinozuki well it was pretty obvious that he was insinuating today's rap and pop, since thats whats dominantly popular. Whether you think the genre's are terrible as a whole is another thing, but like you mentioned, there were great artists in those genres 10 years ago, and he made it pretty obvious he was talking about artists today.
@GraysonDean1990 I lol'd because you're an idiot. You obviously haven't heard any good rap (Dalek, Deltron 3030...) or good pop (Bjork, Shiina Ringo...). Rock and metal are cool, but probably also the worst genres ever.
@IronyBeaver It may as well be, but you're right. It doesn't come close to Deftones. Especially since the Deftones haven't tried to cash in on a genre that's successful. There's no Deftones do Emo album. Unlike Jonas &pals output on this album which incorporated some strangely familiar sounds from another genre.
@schink24 Everything in their career prior to this album is a mix of doom metal and depressive rock. This album is generic shit that tries to incorporate nu-metal elements in order to make it more commercial.
@crosboid It's still the case, they included far more commercial rock elements than doom metal ones, that's true. But there is none of the chug chuging nu-metal riffage nor the pseudo angst nu metal is so fond of. I think you might consider this Nu Metal simply because they changed their sound and you don't like that.
will there always be arguments over things that don't matter enough to be recognized? harshly enough dying as a troll will have deliberate uses. if what happened, or what can happen is what you're heading in for facing that aggression will make little difference knowing there is an end to every hallway one or another. get over the reputation and get at least a bit of common decency of interests, please and thanks.
@theaquaviper I conccur. Katatonia is a musicaly accomplished band that people of a mental and spiritual maturity enjoy. Arguing over genre is only done by people who need to establish who they are to other insecure idiots
@Megadedly I first heard of Katatonia about 7 yrs ago. A friend had gotten this album (the newest at the time). He kept raving about it so I had to see what was so good about it. This was the first song I heard, and the sound was so awesome I started crying. I went back later and listened to their previous albums. And I was equally amazed. I'm a huge fan of European metal but these guys are still my favorite. I might add also that I have "Inside the City of Glass" as a ringtone.
@SharDarksoul It's good for sure, but Akerfeldt had sole vocal duties on that album, Dance Of December Souls shows the band as a whole, in pure doom metal form, thanks to Jonas vocals, no matter how damaging they were. I'm not calling down Akerfeldt either, Opeth is one of my favorite bands.
@Megadedly i agree. I personally favor their doom metal albums over their newer releases. Nothing beats Tomb of Insomnia from the Dance of December Souls album
Great tune. Viva Emptiness is a great album, too. Katatonia's best artwork and one of the their heaviest records. This also seems to be the album where Jonas perfected his voice - previously, he sounded a bit weak in certain areas.
Last Fair deal is infinitely superior. This was the album where they traded their old sound for nu-metal-isms in order to make themselves more commercial.
Jonas might have sounded slightly weaker on the previous albums but the rest of the music was far better, so on balance LFDGD and Tonight's Decision are way better. Discouraged Ones is also an amazing album too even if it is more simplistic musically. There's just no-one else out there that has THAT sound. Shame they ditched it really.
@crosboid You're talking absolute shite. This album >>> their previous ones. You'd have to be a cloth eared faggot to think otherwise. Try harder, bitchtits.
@Bodycage: Uh, Right Into The Bliss, Black Session, Saw you Drown, I Transpire, March 4, Nerve, Murder, Nowhere, Inside The Fal,......Pretty much most of their material written prior to that cheap piece of shit Nu-metal album was far more original, heavy and atmospheric.
Viva just sounds generic and really lacks Blakheim's killer riffs. . Nice try at internet fighting btw.
@crosboid If you think Viva Emptiness is in any way nu-metal, just.....lol @ your faggot self. Plus, tracks like saw you drown don't hold a candle to the best tracksa on viva.
@Bodycage Hilarious. Viva Emptiness is the Katatonia version of Nu-metal. This went for choruses of lines like "I trusted you, you lied" with the same phrase screamed in the background as a counterpoint. along with the intro, That's a blatant nu-metal sound, a la Kittie, and the lyrics are about as nu-metal styled as it gets without putting references to being angry at ones parents or cutting ones self.
ps. Things must be a bit desperate if you have to write "owned" on your own comment. ;-)
@crosboid Kittie? Haha, I knew you were a troll but that just confirms it. In your small mind, buried screaming now equates to something being nu-metal? Again, laughable logic. I suppose youd find tracks lke Omerta and City of Glass on a Craytown album? Or Burn the Remembrance on a Limp Bizkit one? A this point, I think Ill stop feeding the troll. Owned yourself hard.
@Bodycage I think you'll find that I've listed all the traits that this album has in common with nu-metal, and they number somewhat more than one. Mathed yourself hard, but in light of this goof you'll really need to look at remedial classes.
There may just be more nu-metal bands out there than limp and crazytown. Slipknot count as nu-metal if you hadn't noticed, and surprise of surprises they don't sound like either of those two.
@crosboid They number somewhat more than one? You're thicker than I gave you credit for. Ok, let's use your fail troll logic: Crowbar use downtuned riffs, often have harsh vocals, introverted/personal lyrics, heavy bass presence...oh noes, more than one element in common with the nu-metal sound, ergo they must be nu-metal! Get a clue, lol. Owned again.
you can definately hear the big influence mikael has on the vocals and riffs of this band.they were always really good but they even became better when mikael started working with them...this album has, just like opeth, a lot of jazz influences in it (listen closely and you will notice that opeth usually plays with jazz guitars) its just amazing as well as bloodbath is great
Every one that recommended them for me said that I should listen to their songs many times so I couls get used to it and then I could looooove it... But I loved it sence the first song I heard from them!
I dunno. You can definitely see a Morrissey influence in Renske's vocals.

Point is: It happens all the time, and it's usually telling you something about the album you might otherwise miss...
