Ya know, Henry, if it really does suck so much to be King, ya could always just give your hat to the Earl of March, and quit. If nothing else, there wouldn't be a war of roses to go through.
Powerful scene. Hard to believe that it was 20 years ago already. Back then, there was much grumbling among critics as to whether Branagh, this young Irish upstart, could possibly direct and act in a "Henry 5" that would be in the same league as Olivier's. Branagh did just that, God bless him. I'm a very demanding theatre/film critic (with an extensive performing background to buttress my scholarship); and I believe Branagh's version tops Olivier's in some respects:) --
This is the first film i saw a s a child, or at least the first worth remembering. I think i was about 5, and it made me want to become an actor. Didn't do very well, but Branagh's direction and acting still stir something in me to this day
that last part from 3:35(Branagh is so good in this role) on made me think; although Henry was a very experienced soldier even he must have been shitting himself when he thought about the battle to come and the odds against him,and then to win such an amazing victory,he must have felt 10 feet tall.
Ma favorite scene. The music, the performance, the words! "Thou proud dream, that play'st so subtly with a king's repose, I am a king that find thee." I think, Harry became alive for me at that very moment.
violetfieldflorence, I loved "Beginning" so much. I read it a couple of years back and found it delightful and fascinating...yes, so young and so accomplished. Love to see this little window into his mind. He writes very well and honest....so much talent.
My absolute favorite scene from the film I stand in awe of this much talent and the great voice to deliver these brilliant lines. Branagh does not merely recite the lines, but he knows and feels Shakespeare completely; he lives this, he is the king. Nothing is so touching to me as this perfect scene. Beautiful and so meaningful.
Brilliantly done... I just finished reading Branagh's "Beginning" which is a good read for any Branagh fans (!), even though it only goes up to the end of filming Henry V. The 'diary' of those days of filming is a fun 'look into his mind' at that time! Ok, he was only 27 when he created Henry...so much so young!
Touching and true. A piece of work. Nobody like Branagh gives more clarity and magnificent prominence to Shakespeare's lines. Together with Hamlet this is my favourite movie.

Branagh certainly knows what he's doing with his Shakespeare movies.
