When I was in school they always asked me questions that I could put with a short easy answer... then they had to put the fucking "why?" at the end of it. So I hate the word why.
Once Enron came up with the idea that they could make every single thing that existed on Earth a trade-able commodity, their workers were screwed. At that point, Enron began just making things up to make their books work out to investors who were sinking money into a company that had almost nothing to offer for return. Really bad business model and fake products and overhyped bad items are still the norm in many financial institutions. Look at Goldman Sachs, selling people bad stocks....
@ashburn247 I actually like the "why why why" sound byte. I'd like to make it perfect and make it like 2 or 3 minutes of just solid why why why. Cuz I have alot of questions on why things are done a certain way, in regards to this country, my state, my job, all sorts of things in life.... WHY?
@hendizy Actually, they did. Apparently they must have asked: why follow FASB and ethical accounting standards, and why show debt on your books that you can instead hide?! Why? Why? Why?
If they only admitted their failure in bandwith and weather, they probobly would still be in buissness and have a stock tripple the amount cheated. *sigh* It had great potential in the world.
Definitely a motivational commercial. They were trying to do whatever it took to motivate people to look somewhere else, and not in their cooked books. ha ha ha.
Man, the worst part is a glorified pyramid scheme like Enron has the absolute chutzpah to compare themselves in advertising to Abe Lincoln.
The other worst part is Enron - just about the biggest status quo types around - trying to frame themselves as visionaries that go their own way. I don't know if I should laugh or cry.
For tons of money and not pride in not admitting that the company was not profitable. That's Why... why ... why... and it will happen again and again, in some shape and form.
I can guarantee that the PR people didn't know "what was going on" Only the big wigs knew. If anyone other than the schemy traders and the top execs knew, the whole world would have known a lot sooner. The people who made this commercial were just advertising people. It wasn't a "PR stunt" just advertisers doing what advertisers do.
You know it's so unfortunate becuase this is really a beautiful piece of art, used to such trajic ends. Ah well that's what a good video editor is for. Splice the art from the krap.
Welcome to corporate propaganda marketing. Create the illusion of being benevolent and a progressive company while in business-practice you do the opposite (steal/cheat/repress).

The irony of Enron's ask why commercial campaign is that nobody at Enron did.

Enron had some great ideas, and if it wasen't for the corruption and horrible business sense of their execs, they still might be around today.

Enron made some brilliant commericals....just a shame that the values they were made on were a complete lie and sham...

Most inovative company yep, Fortune. We even came up with our own accounting practices.
It was very non-comformist but we asked why do you we need to report profits correctly?

Setting aside the whole Enron part of the commercial, it sure tells a pretty good motivational statement.
Too bad people didn't ask why about Enron and how it was making profits until it was too late.

But not as abrupt as Enron's bankruptcy.

If you ignore the whole enron aspect of this commerical, the message it gives is brilliant. I love it.

In the end, it was shareholders and employees left asking "why why why?" Burn in hell Ken Lay. BTW, what the hell did Enron do?

Great commercial, but you have gave into there PR stunt. This was creating a distraction for what was really going on.

Ok here is the thing.... Enron was too proud to admit it had serious financial problems. Rather
than take steps to change a flawed business plan it set out to borrow money and create a elaborate
scam to make people think Enron was the best.... and it worked! For a while anyway. The bottom
line is Enron had help from bank after bank after bank and they all knew what they were doing.
