Ha ha ha, "the view down your nose must be breath taking..." That's awesome I'm sick of idiots criticizing people on the net, and you know they're just some fat guy sitting with a bag doritos. I love this song and love your version : )

Sorry, but your tone is shrill & scratchy, you have absolutely 0 feel or bow "voicing" on the plus side your intonation is ok, not good by any means, but ok. I need to take an aspirin rest my ears. and Don't give up your day job.
I apologize if I hurt someone's feelings. Knowing how difficult the fiddle/violin can be, I should admire his heart and love for the music and not have criticized his playing. I am sorry for any non-thought-out criticism on my part.
As for me doing a post of my playing, well maybe at some point I will do some teaching/sharing of some Chubby Wise and Sugarcane Harris licks and phrasing, but not now.
Thank you rskurow for apologizing. I feel better now, I was also going to chastise you, but I have calmned down. I thought the music was well played in a very down homey style tkat Ken Burns used in his made for TV civil war epic. That was the theme song & it sounded as great.
I know what you're all saying but do all of you play the violin? I agree with rskurow. This guy really needs to put some more feel into it. Its fine, but its not great. Its more of a run through style of playing rather than a preformance.
this is good. i dont think the band deserves to play this it doesnt sound good when they do it,anyways i may be a viola but my high school orcestra gets to play this finally. uncommon huh.jk.well great job
You are doing this song a wonderful honor sir!!! I have loved this song for 20 years now... My father, a Civil War Historian shared it with me, and he is still here... We listen to this song often, among many other faves...
There's nothing like Elvis, Springsteen, and the Ashoken Farewell, all in the same night!!!
your fiddle and playing has such a deep folksy bitersweetness to it that really captures the essense of the song for me. thanks for posting it

Beautiful! I like the slower version of yours better than the original speed, too. Your technique is perfection, sir.

Please, rskurow... post one of YOUR playing. Criticism is useful, when it's not full of snotty, pretentious dribble.
Nicely done, sir. (ahbuss)
I love this one, as well!

My high school band plays this every year for the graduating seniors, and it's my year. It is a beautiful song, and you play it amazing. =)
