  • Wow John Michael Talbot was a fan! Awesome!

  • Are you responding to me? I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, sorry!!! (And when you quote someone, please cite the quote. That is Rich's quote)

I know I can't stand proof texting - learned all about it 20 years ago when I was doing my undergrad work in Applied Ministry.

I'm thinking you're addressing the people in the discussion/argument - that makes more sense. I love God's word better than breathin'.

    Take care, everyone.

  • Rich would so not enjoy this discussion.

  • Though I merit this comment, I think discussions of faith should not be knocked. Instead I'd like to point out, "Proof-texting is a very, very dangerous thing. I think if we were given the Scriptures, it was not so that we could prove that we were right about everything. If we were given the Scriptures, it was to humble us into realizing that God is right, and the rest of us are just guessing."

Be mindful of how you use scripture. God's love is profound OT and NT.

  • The Bible says:"If you love someone, you will never do him wrong;to love, then,is to obey the whole Law."(Romans13:10)God bless Rich:)

  • I'm sure you know what I'm talking about you seem sound in your belief in Christ. I'm not judging or condemning anyone, I only want to make sure the truth is told for the sake of Christ.

  • Hey boomac. It sounds like we both pretty much agree on everything. The most important thing is Jesus Christ, but we want to make sure that we teach the truth. We will be held accountable one day by God. It sounded before like gay was o.k. with you, but the bible differs. I know of churches totally organized for gays. When you bring up these verses to them they completely twist them out of context and that's wrong. They really don't think they are sinning. The bible says to repent.

  • In my personal opinion, no we shouldn't get tattoos. I wonder why it seems like you (and many others) want to bend the Word to make it easier and in a sense make yourselves feel better about your sin?

  • I'm not sure what sin you are refering to in my life. I'm not gay but I am a sinner. I'm saved by Grace (alone) through faith (alone) in Christ (alone)....If you think I bend the word it may be because you do not agree with me. In times past many Christians debated slavery and both used the word of God to defend the position the held, they were both faithful and sincere. If I am wrong, and I may be, I'm wrong on the side of Grace.Homosexuality is not the unforgivable sin,

    peace to all!

  • Stop this! You are supposed to be the Body of Christ! He died for us! He suffered beyond what we could ever comprehend. I cannot fathom why you would be talking about tattoos and the sin in other people's lives (this is not a forum to discuss homosexuality either!) This is us - talking about Rich's wonderful life and ministry! Be grateful that God saved you - and me - so we can be with Him forever and have abundant life here on Earth! The Church is falling apart because of this discord! Stop it!

  • This is breaking my heart - IMAGINE what this does to the heart of the Father! I beg you ALL before you post any more - please get on your knees and ask God to help you know what to say. To let no unwholesome talk come from your mouths. Exhort one another!

Yes - sin exists! If you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Saviour, it has been flung as far as the east is from the west! Let's get it together and SPREAD THAT GOOD NEWS to those who are lost in their sin! Hallelujah - God loves us! <3

  • It's Leviticus 18:22. Just curious how you interpret this bible verse boomac62?

  • Scroll down, i responded soem time back. I take the OT laws in the spirit they were intended. I think you do as well, I doubt you would kill somebody for being gay...who would? Yet it's all there in the OT. I think we need to read the entire cannon and not pick verses. But I once felt different and I respect those of my brothers and sisters who disagree with me, mostly I want us to unite on the more important issues.

  • I LOVE Rich and miss him so much. As a more liberal christian I found him to be one christian singer that I really "got"....he was amazing and oh so missed. God bless all.

    peace

  • Rich is anything, but a liberal Christian. He is a "real" Christian. Thank God for his teaching the truth!

  • Well, I have a dvd that i love where he talks about judging our gay neighbors and those who are different, he was also open to worshiping with Catholics or Quakers...anybody who loved Jesus. He also spoke about how Americans ignore the parts of the bible about selling all you have and giving to the poor (which was how he lived his life, he never sold out to corperate Christianity)...so Praise Jesus for Rich.

Peace my friend from your Liberal Christian brother.

    1 Cor. 10:31

  • I just meant that, at least my meaning of liberal, is that a liberal Christian sometimes goes outside the truth of the Bible. The bible specifically teaches us all these things. Everything he stood for was truth and backed up by the bible. Denominations don't make you a Christian, but your believe in Christ does! So Amen!

  • He did not judge gays and we are not to judge. But we are not to approve of the gay life style, and i believe thats what he was talking about. Don't seperate yourself for CHRISTIANS by calling yourself a liberal christain.

  • Well, he was interested in far more important issues than sexual oriantation and so should we as the body of Christ. The body of Christ is...liberal & conservative, evangelical & fundamentalist,Calvinist & Arminian, frozen chosen & holy rollers, we are of different polital thought, some are gay, most are not, some drink beer & others tea....so I only want to speak as a liberal evangelical homeschooling Quaker husband & dad who loved Rich and misses him. Peace!

    Praise God

    1 Cor 10:31

  • He was, I agree with that. But as Christians we are one as the body of Christ, God wants us to be ONE. Not a body split by different views on the Bible, which to me is pretty straight forward. It says not to be gay so don't be homosexual it says not to lie so don't be untruthful ect, I have no problem with you sir, I have a problem with all the different lables for a Christian, weather Baptist, methodist, or anything else. I think people almost for get we all worship the same God.

  • Well, i don't think the Bible says not to "be gay" so much as it speaks against sexual sin in general both etro and homosexual. Of course there would have been no understanding of sexual orientation at the time the various books were written. I'm not gay but I don't remember making that choice and I don't think we do choose our orientation, it's wired into us somehow & so I feel bad for those women and men who have felt unwelcome and unloved because of who they are. peace

  • I don't want homosexuals to feel unwelcome, they shouldn't. But I do think they should repent of there sin, like we all should. The Bible does say, "a man should not lay with a man". If you want I will give you the verse. If God said that, he would not go agaist what he says by created homosexuals.

  • Lev 18:22..."you shall not lie with a male..." I am familiar with all 8 verses (out of 60,000 plus) that make reference to same sex activity.(NOT orientation)In the next chapter God commands us not to shave the sides of our heads (20:27) or get a tatoo(20:28)He also commands a man who lies with a man to be pout to death (21:13), should we still do that? Or perhaps are these OT laws for a different era? Paul is a bigger challenge to me than OT laws, but context counts in the NT as well

    peace.

  • Some things do not change. God is the same, today, yesterday and tomorrow. If I commit adultry, steal, lie, kill it's still a sin today as much as it was then. What makes you think homosexuality is any different? I agree we should love gays, but we don't have to agree with their lifestyle and we know that it's a sin and always will be.

  • Did I say I "agree" with the lifestyle.a person no more chooses to "be gay" than they choose to be deaf, it happens. Who would choose a life so difficult? Now anybody can 'choose" to engage in homosexual acts for their own kicks or whatever and clearly that is wrong. Two different things there. Well...there are more important things, poverty, war, violence, injustice, hate,

abortion, racism,,etc that we as the body should be involved in.

    Well, peace and God bless.

  • I'm just throwing my two sense in here, but homosexual organizations try to hide the fact that there are ex-gays. Through therapy many people have left their homosexuality behind, it definitely has something to do with chemicals in the brain, but as with depression, through help from other people, they can change.

  • there are people who claim to be ex-gay and thats great for them but there are many others who try reparetive theropy and "fail" to receve the results they want. They then feel like they have no hope and too often thats the message they recieve from the church. I just want to let those people know how much God does love them. I know homosexuality is not at all God's intended plan for human sexuality but i don't see that as the fault of the gay man or woman...anyway it's difficult. peace

  • I agree that a person who is homosexual probably will not go to hell, that's not up to me but God, and I am friends with bisexual people. God does love them so much, may He bless you on your journey, I still stick to the thought that over time, any homosexual could become straight, through enough treatment, but people are people and God loves them anyways.

  • Thank you so much for this. I think most who know Rich if only through his music, as I do , and a few books and DVD's, feel like me, I feel like Rich really is my brother and that is what Jesus wants us to feel and be. God help us to care like you do, help us to love others more than ourselves,Rich did I think. I am trying to think of the song he did where he sang I love you but I can't remember right now.

  • I found it, "Peace" it is on SONGS 2, a wonderful CD of Rich's. It has beautiful and unusual songs on it,lol, that can be said of all his CD's. I am going to try to do a vid with one of his songs, never done one before, pray for me to do it justice.

  • Do you have the CD that song originally appeared on? It's considered his best by many people (Is probably my 2nd it 3rd fave) - "A Liturgy, A Legacy and a Ragamuffin Band". It is a gorgeous piece of art - get your hands on it if you can!! I just bought one for a friend used on Amazon. It's amazing!!

  • Hi! Which song, Hard to Get?

  • Er, no - you were talking about "Peace". So I was too :)

  • I'm sorry, the first song thats mentioned on this tape is Hard to Get, and I didn't go back that far to see my comment, will do that,

I do have that CD it is SOngs Two, an excellant CD of course. It has 16 songs on it! I love that song! Have you heard Wounds of Love? it is on Brother's Keeper CD, that song was on my mind earlier.

  • I do have "a Liturgy A legacy and a Ragamuffin Band" yes it is a favorite too! GOsh, I think they are all my favorites:)

I think Rich says the things and asks the questions in his songs that we all want to say or ask but don't know how. And then there is the magical unbelievable beauty of his composing and lyrics. I am blessed as we have a disc exchange store in our town and most of my library I have gotten there, but a few I have bought new,

  • this is what i've always said: christianity would have done just fine without organised religion. all you need to please IS Jesus. i think rich fought the good fight.

  • My copy of this video got caught in my VCR - i am so glad it's here! Can anyone tell me which "episode" has Brennan Manning talking about "The Angel Who Troubled The Waters"? I want to share that bit at Bible Study this week if at all possible!

Gosh i think "Yay, ten years in heaven!" - then i see this and just golly - miss that man so much. Such a unique, cool, different, IN LOVE WITH GOD man he was! I just love him! Like an amazing bro.

  • We miss you Rich!

  • Rich was a true Christian!!I'm deeply touched by this video!!
