I was in newton back in 92 as cadet lol cant beleave its been destroyed i remember taxing loads of spent rounds from the rifle range and getting a fucking mad bollocking and unning across the air strip at night playin silly buggers with the r.a.f police ha and the dog kennels we saw the guard watching porn dirty twat me and my mate were well tryin to score two fit birds who ended up being the daughters of the c.o at the time i remember since then how much i wanted to be in the r.a.f
Thank you for posting this and the follow up....I can't tell you what it means to me to see these pictures! I was posted here from March 75 until May 76 and I remember it as a vibrant place, full of young people on the verge of their lives, training for one thing or another..I was 18/19 and the memories I created here have stayed with me all this time.....I'm so sorry it is now in such an eerie state....
great video....found it through mine, i visited this place the other day, it's very creepy, whats that room with childrens drawings all over it, i never found that
I was at Newton from '85 to '89 first as a underling in SOETS doing the TV thingy and then in ATC as a Comms Tech. The gym was outstanding. I ran the entertainments in the Fosse Club for a few years. Trenchard Close is now private housing as I discovered when i 'visited' in about 2003. Everything was open and I walked around having a kind of 'Mary Celeste' moment as if everyone had just 'popped out'. Phillcross: Was that 5 Hangar with the pointy things? Goldie: I have stills and video!
I did my Trade Training there in 1977. An FT course, an SI course. A TMT course was the final one in 1987. It is very sad; so many memories. Anyone know why they let the OM Married Quarters patch fall into such a state?
im a cadet cpl at 1936 newton sqn n as we love the base so much because it offers us a decent training ground this video for me is quite upsetting because i know that basie like the back of my hand but knowing what it was in its prime kida shakes me up a bit because it may be a heep or rubble n grafeeti now but it meens so much to me n the other cadets n those hu surved there but im leaving newton for halton n stathan as i go of in the raf farewell newton keep on shining threw
i was on the last of the "814" courses here. If u dont know wot that is...dont ask...I cant tell u. For those in the know, wot a shame to see it like this...
I worked there for 16 years through the 80s and 90s and know most of the buildings pictured and its a shame to see them falling apart they should just level the place and be done with it and put up some kind of memorial dedicated to all those airman who lost there lives fighting from there during its long history . Ady .
Newton has a long, varied and honourable history. It's criminal to see yet another of these expansion period airfields going to waste. At this rate there will be NOTHING left for the RAF to operate from. Every year government carve off more of the defence estate. God help us if a determined military threat ever occurs to the UK in the future. Short sighted polititians are a dangerous breed.
Thank you for all your comments, im going to make a few more Newton videos soon. I am also thinking about making a website, so if anybody has any memories, old photos or video they would like to share, i would like to hear from you.
To see Newton in state is a shame. As a member of staff with the ATC places like this have much to offer. It should have been converted into a joint cadet forces training centre that combined training areas for shooting Dof E gliding physical trn'g, climbing walls swimming pool the list is endless. Al for trn'g young adults to contribute to society. These facilities then could be rented out to other orgs making money also. The local area would benefit financially as would the nations youth.
I served at Newton for 6 years at the dog section how sad to see it in this sate. What a waste of a good dog section then to move to Melton Mowbray DAC.
RAF Newton was a great unit for dog men second only to RAF Debden. To see it in this state is just so so SAD. It would be better if it was just flattened and built on.
also to be seen in This is England the movie

This is another good one, the music fits perfectly. It sounds familiar but I can't place it, what's it called?

Nicely done. But as everyone else has already said, such a shame to see it in that state. Looks better than Upwood mind you.
