This was made in the 80's and the special effects were much better than some of the crap they make now. The first Jaws had outstanding special effects as well and that was made in the 70's. Great stuff!!
This scene actually won an award for best FX. not like todays transformations where they just clap-on their wolf from and their done. these are the real werewolves
artara81, I've had the same experience with this. This part make such a big mark in my mind that now I have to find this part of after 20 years. Now for me it's a one of the greatest morfing scene.
@STUNTS1516 I agree the new moon transformation from the trailer looks horrible this movie did a way better transformation like what almost 30 years ago? hell even harry potter done a better job and the movie didnt even center around a werewolf
ok please dont report this couse i copied this from another parson im realy scared

i know the legs are clay models which falls under the category of prostetics, none of this is green screen though. green screen is jus to alter backrounds and add external cgi effects, unless you think the sofas cgi?
i have the special edition dvd and watch the making of this scene often.
no it was actually pretty awesome how it worked, you should look up the making of this scene,it was AWESOME. they actually cut a hole in the floor for the guys feet and hands and replaced them with fake prostetic ones with pumps inside for the stretching parts.
Actually no. Something does happen. In this movie, right before you turn into a werewolf, your skin feels like it's on fire so he was in a lot of pain through this whole thing.
this was made almost 30 years before.. and still being the best.. i think only Rick Baker can defeat himself.. hope the Wolfman movie has some a great TF scene too.
I bet the first transformation would be like this... but afterwards. I think it wouldn't hurt as badly, because all your bones stretching out and Fur coming from your body... It would be AMAZING to be a werewolf though!!!
I know what your saying, But I can say what I want to properly... lol, what I was TRYING to say is that You'd probably end up getting used to it... like growing up pains... and certain pains for girls, IDK But I find this clip painful to watch when I'm alone :S
Well then...'~' It must suck AGAIN for poor david kesslar :( Poor guy, still I do doubt that it would hurt EVERY SINGLE TIME! ... It's like punching walls really the first time you punch a wall, You'll cry your eyes out and that crap, but after doing it a Number of times, You get less agitated and accept it lol!
And your fun to talk to aswell, I could talk ALL DAY about the same stuff!
Hands down, the greatest werewolf transformation of ALL TIME! Bizarre, original, horrific... and not CGI (which is nothing more than a glorified cartoon)
I think this is the most realistic transformation scene, because it looks like it hurts a shit load. Nowadays werewolves just transform like their changing pants, I'm looking at you twilight.
I can't wait for the new Wolfman movie. They're actually using make up and prosthetics rather than cg. (At least for the final product, don't know about the transformation)
True, I believe The maker of Twilight should have just gone on ahead and called them werewolf instead of saying there shapshifters in the very last book, would have been simple. But they did say there were real werewolfs in the book but were all almost dead in Eroup, but never shows them. Be funny if they looked the same as the shap shifter!
best transformation ever and even better is when you see it it actually looks like a wolf chomping off heads at that porn theater. instead of the usual bear looking things in horror movies
To be honest, if one set aside the idea of it changing back and forth from human and wolf, something like a werewolf could be possible. In this age we've been picking at the ice on DNA experimentation and combination. While saying you could "mix" wolf and human DNA and get clean results is technically incorrect and far fetched, I'm sure there could be a way to make such a bipedal wolf-like thing with human features with extensive research.
Some people ancient peoples beleived werewolves to be men that shifted into actual wolves, while others viewed them as deamons. It really depends on that person's point of view so its ignorant to say something is stupid cause it doesn't fit your idea of what a werewolf might be.
That aside, I'm a big fan of London and the classics but I also respect Twilight's idea.
To those continuing to bash the movies, please read the books.
Concerning Twilight (which I like) if you haven't read the books then you'll miss the part in the last book where its states that they aren't actually were wolves but shapeshifters (skin walkers). People said to be possesed by animal spirits.
So, please don't undermine Twilight because you are misinformed.
I read the book (singular, because they were a waste of my time really.) and although they state that they are in fact shape shifters, people in GENERAL apply the werewolf aspect to it, so they cant help but compare. These 'misinformed' people as you say, have a right to undermine Twilight because they have taken something pure and have added the shape shifter aspect to it. You have no idea how many times people, readers of the book, have come up to me to say, "Aren't these werewolves amazing?"
Im so sick and tired about hearing how Twilight is the best thing out there at the moment. Their 'werewolves' look like dogs, 'pissed off' puppies with elongated teeth and thats about it.
I have to FULLY agree with this being the BEST transformation, ever. Hands down.
Well, in terms of raw strengh Lucious is above this one (because this movie isn't about action or fights), it's like saying Jason (from friday 13th) is stronger than the guy from scream.
This movie isn't like Van Helsing or Underworld, those are about action and only focus on the fighting abilities while ignoring, or minimising, other aspects like transformation's stetics.
yes but this Transformation is just plain better because u get to see the whole precess in a long drawn out process, instead of a quick TF like in Van Helsing or Underworld. I mean its 2:20 seconds long, besides the one in "The Howling". IF we can get a New movie today using the best CG and Story lines, not this EMO crap pumping out like Twilight or New moon or what ever it is called, and get some relative time lines we can be happy. I want a Van Helsing Werewolf with a TF like AWIL i will be :3
yea for sure this transformation is the most detailed and informative on every aspect of the human anatomy that changes one by one. But you also have to consider that in van helsing and underworld, they can't make the transformations that long since they're almost always in a battlefield, if it took 2 minutes like this one, they'd probably be attacked before they could complete the transformation, that's what I think anyway
interestingly both the howling and this movie kick started a slew of man-into-beast movies throughout the decade of the 80's,like the 1982 cat people ,the beast within (also in 82) and david cronenberg's yucky gene swapping update of the fly
Now this is what you call a werewolf transformation. Someone screaming in agony as their body takes the form of the beast. All the bones changing and stretching and the the fur growing looks real. People who want to make werewolf movies need to watch this.
LMFAO!!! i was laughing so hard cuz of his facial expression and cuz at first it looked retarded then it looked awesome! it's fucked up he was screaming his ass off and no one heard him asking for help!! just like in reality! lol! and even if he do allow the transformation, it'll still hurt! everything is been stretch and rearranging and shit!! but yeah, werewolf rules!!! ;)
Yup. It has been scientifically proven. I think I read it somewhere. Then again I didn't because its a fictional movie and the details are made up by the screenwriters.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
some parts kinda draged on there for a bit and should have been closer camera angles with some low shots, and maybe a darker room and it would be cool if he were pounding the ground and then cut off right before he fully transformed, show the moon, then show his full transfromation
Rick Baker the special effects wizard who worked on this film will also be doing the special effects make up for The Wolfman remake... I think the film will rock, just like this one.
Now, I see why Michael Jackson sites this film as an inspiration for his iconic "Thriller" music video.
He certainly knew what he was doing back then! He collaborated with this film's director John Landis as well as make-up artist Rick Baker to get everything just right!
All I can say about this movie and MJ as a whole would be: BRILLIANT!

Rick Baker the special effects wizard who worked on this film will also be doing the special effects make up for The Wolfman remake... I think the film will rock, just like this one.

Um, I'm not an idiot. I was studying for a while to be a special effects make up artist.
And it will suck. This sequence is going to be in CGI.
Baker is only a consultant.

is it possible to cut off the music but keep the sound?
dragonheart950 2 years ago
Its quote possible but it would also be a worrying detachment of the makeup of the material.
But hey, what else do you expect from the younger generation but to miss the trees for the wood.
