  • Thanks for the Lesson!

  • thanks for the info brother been trying this tune for years. the high E tuned to D is the on the mark (since i am always breaking it) thanks

  • Thanks Brother; I've been wanting to learn this song for years!

  • thanks for the alternate tuning, it really makes a difference. I just saw FCA 35 last week and it sure looked and sounded like what you're playing on the video. Awesome show by the way

  • Wow! Thanks a bunch for posting this! For the longest time, since I got into Frampton as a high-schooler close to 20 years ago(I don't care if I date myself or NOT! Haha!), I've tried in vain to figure out those tunings he uses on this and "Wind Of Change", and to NO AVAIL! So, whenever I covered both song on my solo acoustic gigs, I always had to use standard-tuning approximations. NOW, Thanks to your lesson, I have CRACKED THE CODE! Thank you muchly!

  • One of my favourites by Frampton. Thanks so much for the help!

  • Hey thx for the help! You did it good for me to sound out the strings with d drop tune! All to do is practice timing. I'll have it done in 3 days to 1wk!! Thanks keep rockin!!

  • The Argentina concert is in standard. I would imagine because he his playing with a band and soloing on the electric. This version for acoustic sounds spot on.

  • I like your version! I believe you can also use the traditional Dropped D Tuning + your dropped high E to a D. A buddy also told me to try DGDGBD

  • well I watched him play it from 5 feet away and if you ever heard his "Frampton Comes Alive" live album you'll note the open high d tuning. He surely has played it other ways since

  • If that's the tuning Peter showed you, I think he must have been "having you on", as we Brits say. He plays it in standard tuning in concert. See the YouTube video Peter Frampton 2010 Argentina High Quality - 11 - All I Want To Be (Is By Your Side), for example.

  • @TheOldHacker Mr. Brit doesnt know what he's talking about. Of course the Argentina concert has Peter playing his ES series Gibson in standard tuning; it's so he can perform an extended solo, plus he has a backing band to support the song's framework. Check out the acoustic performance Peter Frampton: All I Want To Be (Is By Your Side) (Chicago 2006)...it's pretty clear he plays with the first string in in Drop D tuning.

  • Thank you very much!

    Cheers Scott

  • Great instruction: Could post another with the complete song so I can play along.

    Thanks ROCK ON

  • One of my favorite Frampton songs. Guess it's time to pull out the Yamaha!

  • Very cool man!

  • yeah man thanks , I love this song , my favorite frampton song and I can sort of play it now . I'm very pleased

  • Thanks for the lesson. Very cool that you were able to get some of the info straight from Frampton himself. Neat experience! Thanks again.

  • thank you !!!

  • very nice!

  • you must be really cool to have that sweet custom made guitar! It even has your initials on it! I wish I could be you. jealous!

  • Thanks a lot! One of the best video lessons ever. This is really amazing how this works in the new world of Youtube. It´s impossible to find out yourself how it is played (with the high E one step down). But than there is jmeranus who is living near to the great master himself and asked his personal help. Absolutely fantastic. You are a lucky devil. Great that you are sharing this with us. Please say hello to Peter. I'm still a big fan of this great musician! Lucas from the Netherlands

  • my first posting so happy to know someone used it. Peter lives here in cincinnati so I met him and asked him how it was played so it should be close!

  • @jmeranus

    Dear Sir,

I have no words to say how grateful I am to run into your posting. I have been trying to play this song the right way and running into a brick wall for a long time.

  • @jmeranus woah, you met the big cheese?! This helped a lot, thanks.
