I'm pretty sure if you are a brother in our deen then you would accept the hadith of Bukhari which are classified as sahih.
There are other hadith that point towards the fact that it is not mandatory. I'm simply making the point that there is a basis for the the niqab within the deen.

Yes, I'm aware of that hadith, which is why if I said that the niqab is OPTIONAL. Perhaps you didn't get that message. Optional means one can do it, or can not - as there are hadith which support and do not support niqab.
It is optional is due to the fact that the hadith you've just quoted is weak as in its chain of narrators as Sa'eed bin Basheer appears. This is also why Imaam Bukhari (Rahimahullah) and Muslim (Rahimahullah) did not except this hadith to be in their books.
And to be clear brother, I never took objection to the fact that you said that a woman shouldn't wear niqab, I took objection to the fact that you said it is forbidden. Sahih hadith cannot be simply rejected. When there are hadith that both support wearing niqab, and hadith that support hijab only - it is reasonable to consider the niqab as mustahab or mubah depending on one's arguments.

Yes there are many misinterpretations, this is true, and many interpretations. But due to the fact that a person may feel that they should wear niqab, then I support them - as clearly the niqab is not bidah as there is some hints of it in hadith. In my family, none of the women wear niqab because it's not fard but if one put it on, i wouldn't try to stop her because it is her choice.

This reporter is right, Niqab is a cultural thing like in Saudi Arabia but there is no way that Niqab is allowed in Islam and I can participate in any argument that it is forbidden in our religion. Niqab is not obligatory in Islam but certain women wear them to follow the example of a number of Saintly Women (Peace be upon Them) in Islam including the Holy Prophet's (Peace be upon Him) Wives (Peace be upon Them)... I'm pretty sure if you are a brother in our deen then you would accept the hadith of Bukhari which are classified as sahih.
There are other hadith that point towards the fact that it is not mandatory. I'm simply making the point that there is a basis for the the niqab within the deen.

Yes, I'm aware of that hadith, which is why if I said that the niqab is OPTIONAL. Perhaps you didn't get that message. Optional means one can do it, or can not - as there are hadith which support and do not support niqab.
It is optional is due to the fact that the hadith you've just quoted is weak as in its chain of narrators as Sa'eed bin Basheer appears. This is also why Imaam Bukhari (Rahimahullah) and Muslim (Rahimahullah) did not except this hadith to be in their books.

Sahih hadith cannot be simply rejected. When there are hadith that both support wearing niqab, and hadith that support hijab only - it is reasonable to consider the niqab as mustahab or mubah depending on one's arguments.

Prayer, fasting in Ramadan, feeding the poor, being good to others, Hajj, being good to and taking care of your parents (e.g. do not putting them in nursing homes like what westerners do) etc. are more important as I believe Hijab is a secondary thing and Niqab is a bad cultural habit that people invented. Yes there are many misinterpretations, this is true, and many interpretations. But due to the fact that a person may feel that they should wear niqab, then I support them - as clearly the niqab is not bidah as there is some hints of it in hadith. In my family, none of the women wear niqab because it's not fard but if one put it on, i wouldn't try to stop her because it is her choice.

The reason that SARKOSY baned the niqab is because Muslim's do not want to integrate and respect the laws in France. When you live in a country you have to respect it's law and the other people who live there. There are many Muslim ghettos in France and i think that this is a danger for the futur of the country.

You can't say that Muslims are easily swayed to extremism... you should come to any Islamic country and see by yourself... we have multi religion people.. in the Islamic countries Ask any one of them if we treated them badly .. I have some French and American friends they told that they live in a higher lifestyle , better quality of life here than their original country And except Iran we didn't force any women to wear hijab or niqab

@a7laprincessbelkoon actually it's not just "some" people that say islam is evil... it turns that there are huge number of people with that opinion. and i don't buy that it's "some" radicals either. moderate muslims may not want to admit it, but islam is infested with radicals... especially in saudi arabia, pakistan and yemen. but they are all over the place and are immigrating to the west. even muslims that aren't radicals are apparently easily swayed to extremism.

@MorningofMourning Right, but I can argue that Freedom of Expression and Religion is a core Western Value. We can't let fear destroy those higher ideals. It is even unconstitutional (First amendment). And in a more pragmatic level it serves as an excuse to recruit more Muslim radicals by showing that the West has a Crusade against Islam.

If people decide to migrate to another country then they should abide by the rules of that country. they should live within that civilization not attempt to change it to the same sort of place that they have come from. If they cannot live within the constitiution and civilization that the country they came to has, then maybe they should return to their country of origin.

@faeriekisses21 a few years ago in florida there was a muslim woman that refused to remove her niqab for her drivers license photo. they took it to court. the bottom line is that the purpose of the photo is for identity. the judge concurred. eventually the woman agreed to get her photo taken in a private room with only women present. you see this primitive mentality just doesn't fit into western culture. muslims should just leave the u.s. and live in a muslim country like pakistan.
