@wesman2232 P bass overall arent good for slap or tap really, well there good for slap SOMETIMES i like to slap my P , but never tap it imo x D but picking sounds the BEST on a p bass imo
I don't really feel any emotion in your playing. There's no intensity or anything. The notes are dead on, but you play so softly that it seems like that's all your doing - is playing the song. Full score for the accuracy, not much in the way of how Les or zodiakironfist make it feel.
I know the description says you're running your bass through your pedal board but are you actually using the pedals here? I'm looking to buy a 5 string, am also a Primus fan, and that is the exact sound I want, just wondering if its the bass or if its partly effects. Cheerrrrs.
dude two quiestions one are those stock pickups and two how did you learn to slap the bass that good my slapping skill stinks maybe its because i slap near the bridge good video though primus is awesome
Yes, those are the stock Bongo pickups (they are very good). I learned my slap technique mostly by practicing a lot and watching lots of video clips (and live performances) of Les's playing. He's got a really good slap technique so I figured he's a good model to follow.
You are the best person I have ever seen/heard at playing Primus stuff! Amazing! Now I can use these videos to play the songs myself! Keep it up dude!
... Also, are you in a Primus cover band by any chance? If not then start one!!
That stretch looks painful

@carlos15agg - Nope, it's not.

do you need some kind of jazz bass for this song? I use a P-bass and it doesn't pick up the taps well xD
wesman2232 1 year ago
@wesman2232 Obviously not, since I'm not playing a jazz bass.

It's a SansAmp DI fed through a DigiTech guitar chorus/flanger pedal.

nice stretch on the intro dude
jimmyatebillonce 3 years ago
Thanks. Claypool has it easy because he always plays this on his 4-string short-scale bass, which has frets that are slightly closer together.

that thing reminds me of an egg

Try turning your volume knob up then.
c0d3h4x0r 4 years ago
It might be the way your thumb hits the string or your gauge then, I don't know. I just don't feel the slaps. I'm sorry.

Then get some computer speakers with some actual bass.
c0d3h4x0r 4 years ago

The intro is run through a DigiTech X-series guitar flanger pedal, plus the entire take is also run through a SansAmp Bass DI.

Ahh okay, brilliant, thanks very much, nice vids by the way.

You've gotta hit the open E to get that cool thunder in the backrground at the right time. Listen close to the recording...you'll hear it.
