I love this movie. Love this music.Love this overture. It's funny, because when I hear this tune, I always remember when Eric Stoltz' character was scouting ahead. He then tastes some cow dung. Hehe... good times. Thanks for uploading this, pok9er.
see people who say lets all get on together, they obviously aren't from either scotland or the uk, and have been brought up learning the history of your country and what its went through at the hands of its overly aggressive neighbour throughout history. and has to put up with their undeserved sense of superiority towards the rest of the uk. i for one, and i think many like me are all in favour of our independence. sas=scottish air service. alba gu brath
@MrJocky82 Well, History is mostly politics. The cold fact is that we are all humans drifting through space on a giant Dirtball. As long as people, for whatever reason, think in cathegories like "they" and "us" there will always be suffering, war and whatnot. And to say "XYZ have a undeserved sense of superiority" is just another way to say "they are idiots, but WE are better". Think on that a little bit.
The music in Rob Roy is better than in Braveheart. The Romeo & Juliet Overture is still my favourite though - if you haven't heard it already, please do.
Tim Roth's finest hour, he should have won more than a BAFTA, Jessica was also very good in this film, it seems like she got snubbed, she played the part of a resilient and loyal wife perfectly. It really does seem like Braveheart unjustly overshadowed this film. Oh ya, one of the best sword fights Hollywood ever produced too.
I love this! I was exposed to this stuff young and I cant get enough of it today... I am glad to be some of the really few that enjoys and listens to this.
This English-Scottish antagonism is petty and nauseating. Both nations have offered the world a huge amount and as one United Kingdom we in fact built the modern world.
The origins were imperfect and admitedly unpopular but the home nations of this island are simply too interwoven in language, culture, history and politics to wrench apart from one another now. To do so would be to tear apart a 303 year old sovereign state that has made its mark on the world.
Thank you sooo much for posting this two part piece! I have looked for the soundtrack everywhere just for this first selection, even iTunes, and haven't found it until here! You rock!
i whish i was scottish, im born german, but though i was in schottland onely once, i feel that schottland is where my heart truly belongs! the highlands are the most romantic, beautiful, independent and wild countryside in the world,!
This song makes me think of Titanic. The first part reminds me of the happy half of the movie... then the second part (rough fiddle part) reminds me of the last half.
Carter Burwell is simply an amazing composer. I'm amazed with how this soundtrack sounds like his later film Fargo. He always writes the most beautiful pieces with such emotion. I love it.
I thought I had highlander ancestry, but in MacDonald's hidden valley I got a case of vertigo... oh well... the view was wonderful and I so often with words in my head was silenced. I couldn't describe what I was seeing. No words came... only wow wee... mmm... a place among places I'd like to return to... to the spirits in those streams of ancient rock...
@velenomortalex You speak the same language as england, eat the same food as england, and live off english money? Now that is very confusing of you to say
@Pawnbroker00 Scotland dont live off english money. If scotland were to exclude itself from the rest of the uk then we have much resources not only to self sustain but to flourish. i dont think it will ever happen of course since the uk is heaviliy integrated with blood ties now and of course history. inspite of this, scoltand introduced univesities 500 years before england so we have educated you but we dont say pay us back for this?
@Pawnbroker00 In addition, pound for pound (scottish pounds) we gave the world - telelvision, telephone, penicilin, doctors, science, engineering, roads, politics with democacy and of course the first form of capitalism. Scotland, if anything is owed by england and the world, but, since we are a socialist and still considerate of other people, unlike most of england, we wouldnt ask you for payment for introducing everything you use except the fucking wheel.
@gregingram1970 you forgot something....we gave them the wheel :D Dunlop invented the Bicycle wheel so yes we gave them everything INCLUDING the wheel lol
@Pawnbroker00 We live off the scottish pound - thanks to the royal bank of scotland. nothin confusing with that so far is there? dont forget the enlightenment period
@Pawnbroker00 I'd have thought his message was clear .... it's not confusing at all, we use English money, speak the language, and eat the same food , because we, like the Irish were conquered by the English who forced upon us their traditions, it just so happens that after so many generations of living together it is to our great convenience to use the more widely used and stronger language and currency however if you had left us alone things would be different.
@SmileyMT I am not english ._. i just find it funny that your ancestors decided they were above having their own culture and changed it to the english one instead. Nobody HAD to stop speaking gaelic. There was proportionally no english in scotland during the medieval age. Just that your ancestors were too busy perfecting their cultural cringe.
@Pawnbroker00 Gaelic was outlawed for decades after numerous Jacobite rebellions. Highland culture that had existed for thousands of years was systematically eradicated by the British Monarchy and the british army. Thousands were slaughtered, burned from their homes and forced across the ocean to the Americas. People did not simply decide to stop speaking Gaelic and start speaking English. It was forcedu pon them under penalty of death.
@Pawnbroker00 I MIght add that Highland or Scottish culture wasn't completely eradicated. It still exists. Largely due to the persistence and courage of a people who are arguably the greatest on earth. The Scottish and Highland people's preserved their culture and helped spread our values and culture around the globe. Something I'm sure many will agree is a good thing. Long live Scotland.
@velenomortalex no my friend, it was the other way round Scotland got f***ed.....all because they first thought they could conquer england.....then they squabbled over the throne and offered overlordship to edward 1st....nice move. However when it comes to rob roy's period I support the highlanders against george, as bonny prince charlie had more right than the Hanoverians.
As a true scot, nothing sturs my heart like the bagpipes. They could bring me to tears. I can't wait to get back to my homeland and my town of Stirling. There are no men like Scotsmen!
Less Hollywood than Braveheart maybe, but i'm not sure that Rob Roy is a better movie... But the soundtrack is WAY better! And, please, you have forgotten about Tim Roth! The greatest movie-villains of all times - Archibald Cunningham! A BRILLIANT performance by Roth!
My favorite song is when they're galloping through the wood on horse back and then the person dies in/against the tree. i haven't watched this movie since i was like ten i'm eighteen now ha ha
Although I did love "Braveheart", I do think that this is a superior film, certainly less Hollywood. I also love the the pairing of Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange - such great chemistry. It's a superb film.
