  • Man yall r haters! it was ok u culd hav had a mor mature tone but it was ok not totally killed but it was around ther

  • Oh the agony! Oh the vowels! OH THE AGONY!!!!! OOOOHHH THE VOWWEEEEELLLLLSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • really flat guys....

  • *twitch*

  • Just bad vowels need more consonants and just over all flat good try though

  • The sound is really young, due to all the poor vowels. Sounds a little flat as well due to the same reason!

Dynamics? This group sang loud and louder, the entire song. Certtain parts were too loud, a lot of "over singing". Tenors and sopranos, sound like they are screaming at the end.

The accompanist hit about 6 wrong notes in the first measure that they played.

    Good effort, though.

  • wow this is bright! vowwweeeelllllsssssssss dreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemed a dreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeem

  • obviously this conductor did not teach these students how to sing properly, it is a shame because they would have potential if she would teach them. Honestly it was painful to listen to this!!

  • We Are Doing This For Our Chior Right Now

  • I think it's merely the director's selection in music. A choir's sound can, of course, be improved, but not overnight. What can be done to help whatever stage a choir is at is select music that is age and ability appropriate. This is a hard piece to do, not necessarily just because of notes, but because the vowels do need such attention and the phrases need big breaths. That's all - don't too hard on them. They did get through it.

  • I liked it, my choir is doing this one. I know the tenor tenor part is high, as i am one, but one of you is SHOUTING. i agree that there should have been more vowels, and i wish you had had more facial expression, but overall, not bad.

  • that was real bad

  • Nice dynamics. Terrible diction.

  • ok...i lied...can't stand it!! it sounds like "awake away!" and "the silence of the night has pass" where is the "pasED"? be sure to say all the letters in each word. sorry.

  • hmmm....in sted of saying that you need a lot of work. i'm just going to say that my choir sang this song with most of the other school choirs in the area. we had about 600 or 700 people singing this song. it was epic. i'm sad i don't have a recording of it.

  • Not one of them looks happy or even interested in singing this. My freshman year of high school we sang this song and we received a standing ovation. DROP YOUR JAWS enunciate. OH and ladies, get your voices out of your nose. OH and some lessons in what is staccato would do you some good. The Awake! Awake! section was... sloppy. Timing was off too. I agree with cvhsmbclarinet. Beautiful song. Killed.

  • Maybe with a little more practice and passion, this song has so many emotions and it goes through so much. I'm a little upset. HAVE PASSION!

  • all i hear is DREEEmed drop the jaw, think of a golf ball chillin in your mouth. Ladies, vowels. more tenor. practice practice practice

  • damn this sucks

  • Drop your jaw people! Open up a little more. You guys sound really good, you're just missing a lot of dynamics and vowels.

  • your vowels are among the worst that i have ever heard, but the overall tonality was pretty good!

  • omg your vowels absolutely suck, but overall vocal tone and everything is pretty good!

  • is this greenwood highschool?

  • The girls all need to drop their jaw and open up, and try and sound OLDER! They sounds like 12 year old.

  • you can tell you've got a few girls who are trying to be soloists and stylizing way too much. that and vowels. But it's not HORRIBLE like everyone's making it out to be. It's a really hard piece.

  • I am singing this now at Three Rivers Highschool, we will be featured on an up and coming c.d. by Moses Hogan. He composes spirituals, so our choir has had plenty of vowel shape training.....this group had next to none, i was really rather upset to hear this. My choir has 24 in it, and we sounded better, but we keep it in tune with only 3 on a part, because we have altered a few points and added 2 baritone lines and 2 women parts. This just needed better balance and more open vowel shape.

  • i have a headache now :-/

  • Haha okay dude i was listening to this, and whoever was recording i herd a boy say

"can i go to the bathroom!"

    XD EPIC

    2:38

  • UHHH... Blukow723.... I was not even remotely talking to you...

"If you really wanna be like that ZAFT"

I was talking to ZAFTMOBILE about his apperent cocky attitude just like you were...so read and reeelaaaax n__n

  • omfg.

1:01 or so, when the men say "no steeples rang" HOLY SHIT SO FLAT I LITTERALLY squnted and like, ducked down, .

and on "withered and died" the men, HORRIBLE. omg.

  • hard to hear what the bass part is singing...i sing the bass part and it is hard to hear that to make it "complete"

  • I'm sorry. You all need a bit more practice. The piano part is missing a lot of notes and the choir is hard to understand. I went to band camp and we were required to be part of choir. we had four rehearsals to learn this song along with two others and we did much better. If you practiced more, it might be better. Please! It's such a nice song that you just killed.

  • @cvhsmbclarinet your high dude looks how many people they have this piece is made for a lot of people

  • If you have nothing nice to say about this choir then why even say it? I mean seriously...the video was already recorded - it's not like they could go back and correct every little nit-picky thing that's wrong. It's obviously not perfect, but I'd like to hear a 50 person choir that IS perfect. Really...leave your mean comments to yourselves, and if you don't like it then don't watch it.

  • i'm on concert choir at my school, and it's 55 people. We sound MUCH better than this. look us up somtime. highland high school choir gilbert, az. we did this song and it sounded absolutely amazing.

  • piano player is missing an accidental... first note in right hand at 0:07.(it repeats) the high "winding down clock" part. I believe that should be a flat or a half step lower. Niece piece guys! thanks for the performance. Keep singing! :)

  • VOWELS PEOPLE! wow even though its pretty....VOWELS!!!!!! pure vowels!!!!

  • @LibHayden14 YESYESYES! that's exactly what I thought 30 seconds in. They sound a bit like 12 year olds.

  • where is the piano in the middle part?!?! when the guys come in and say "awake awake" then the alto's and soprano's come in?

i LOVE that piano part it gives me chills when i hear it and it's like really fast. My choir is singing it for our concert and my best friend is playing it and it sounds great :D

  • LOL people are saying its fine. That was just funny. Its not fine. If you truly are a choir obsessor you know that this is not fine. Far from it x.x

  • I have no idea why people are bashing this. It sound perfectly fine to me. I love how it sounds.

  • yall are singing way toooo fast and the piano player cant play

  • ZOMG this reminds me...well today we had the chorus festival. and our school...scituate high...got a superior! Its the 1st time we ever got one. yeah we did this song!! ^___^

  • to be honest i didnt like it at all... its to fast, the piano player is playing wrong notes, and im not gonna start with the singing.

when my group did this song we won best everything and had double the people. our softs were softer our louds were louder (ovbs cuz of more people) but anyways not that great sorry

  • yuck!!!!!! that's gross!

  • WOW . . . Hmm, what can I say here? That was HORRIBLE!!!! Come on people TALL VOWELS!!!!!!!! You have to put feeling in that song!! (By the way, I'm in the same choir as TwilightRider01) Think of it this way. You just woke up from a horrible nightmare. No music, the world was silent. Nothing. Then, you wake up! The nightmare is over. You are filled with so much joy that you have to anounce it to the world! "LET MUSIC LIVE!!!!"

  • ...wow i dont mean to bash but do these people no the meaning of TALL VOWELS?! good god. its alrite i guess. i just adjuicated this song with my combined 9th and 10th grade choir and we got a superior. its not that tough. u just gota feel it

  • THIS WAS TERRIBLE!!!! i am freshman chorus and we sound alot bettea than yall....yall have no passion!!!!!

  • and the pianist cant play very well. granted this is a hard song to play. it only took me 2 hours to get the whole song perfect and memorized.

  • rofl hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha dude this choir is so bad. i did this in my high school. we were tripple supirior and we had half the people these guys had. gave me goose bumps everytime we sang it togeather.

  • sorry if it seemed like i was being overly critical, but this song was butchered really badly by this choir.

  • besides the obvious problem with vowels and dynamics, this choir has a real problem coming in strong on notes. it's like half of them aren't paying attention and only half come in at the right time.

a lot of this song was way too fast, especially the "awake, awake" part.

    the guys just suck, period.

so does the person who was playing the piano-half the notes were either wrong or missed.

and the ending sounds so much better if there's a short rest between "let music" and "live."

  • I agree. This is an ok performance. The vocals were almost always there. The one thing that I noted was that everyone was singing with flat vouls. Sing tall, not flat. That will also help your slight pitch problems! :) But not bad!

  • eh.....a choir of this level should not be singing this song. its above your heads. sorry.

  • not round enough on vowel sounding, not loud enough, bass section was a little too weak for this calibur of song, tenors were not on pitch for alot of it : \ The choir wasn't into the song, this song is very passionate.

  • you can hear one girl mess up in the sopranos i think.

  • THIS SONG IS SUPPOSE TO BE SO POWERFUL AND PASSIONATE

    show it BASS!!

  • YES vowels. especially on the "awake awake" part. it was like "awehhhk awehhhhhhhk" and i was like AHHHHHH STOP but the pitch was good (:

  • i sang this in 7th grade and i sang it tb and it was freakin amazing

  • da endin needs alittle work it dynamics Nd not slidin cuz it makes it sound bad

    but GOOD JOb

  • They aren't that bad!!! They just really need to work on their vowels and the tenor note at the end didn't sound very good at all, i dnt think it was the rite note...we sang this in my high school choir and we were pretty good cuz my director alwayz sayz "WATCH YOUR VOWELS" hahaha

  • sound absolutley horrible. i am singing it ttbb in 9th grad in advanced mens at riverwood. I have heard it satb and it sounds better ttbb it makes my hair stand on end.

  • it isn't honestly all that bad, they just need to work on their vowels. you really don't need to be so mean. and i really don't think anyone cares about your personal opinion about how you think ttbb sounds better. im not trying to be mean, but i'm just stating the facts

  • no its ok, if you really wawnna be like that zaft, i went to europe and sang this infront of french, swiss, and german ppl alike. and im sure we sounded 8x better than you. there see...we all can be prickslike you...

  • actually, I'm not in this choir. get your facts straight before you start shit on youtube. and you really have no need to call me a prick, I'm just stating my personal opinion, which I think is ok to do last time I checked. and I'm sure your in a "awesome" choir. TRY ME!

  • I remember doing this song in High school. This choir did great! I do, however; think that the vowels need a little bit of work. Also, this song is not supposed to be bright till closer to the end. The women need to make it "darker". not so much "more depressing", but deeper tones.

  • vowels need work,

    but its good :]

  • lovely voices...really.

but you have to work a little on blend and vowels...and also the girls are VERY bright...darken the sound a bit...other than that good.

  • work on your vowels and please dont fidget with your hair and stuff...its very distracting.i think you all blend very well at some points...props to the first tenor taking the top note at the end...thats gonna be me!!:)

  • We are doing this song for the seniors last concert. I love this song! Every time i hear this song,i get chills... it means alot to someone who has sang all that person's life. So i give props to whoever sings this, its super hard. Good Job!!

  • I performed this song in high school. I think this choir did it well. only thing is, i think that they started the song to strong. the song starts off as if music is dying... and should sound more soft and somber. and the end is supposed to show how alive music is... so i think the ending would have felt more powerful if the beginning didn't start off so strong. but what do i know? lol... but good job. one of my favorite songs

  • i actually think it is outstanding.. outstanding.... and there are different arrangements of songs, holy lord people...

  • whats funny is the fact your trying to talk about the overtone series. Overtones happen with men or women. It all has to due with being in tune. and if you want to be correct on the over tones, you wouldn't need anyone to sing anything more than a triad chord, because the rest of the over tones are there just with the chord being in tune. But that is for the trained ear, not for everyone else that doesnt know things about music. an all mens chorus gets boring to listen to even if they are good.

  • What choir might that be zooroo22 because I know every choir in Minnesota and have sung with the best choirs in the country. I guarantee whatever choir your talking about doesnt come close to any of the best choirs in New York, Texas, or California. But I will agree that this choir video sucks donkey balls. OMG LOL

  • This is the worst recording of this I have ever heard. I should show this to Joseph. This choir director should be shot. Along with the pianist. The whole choir should have called in sick that night just to save them from this utter disaster and abomination to music.

  • and for those of you who this mixed choirs suck, maybe it is because you dont have a good mixed choir. I love the sound of a good mixed choir compared to a all mens choir any day. There is just a timbre of a womens voice that you cant get with guys.

  • they are prob. in high school and their voices havent really developed yet. The bass is lacking, but that is because at the time when you are in high school it is rather hard to put a great tone to some of those notes. The problem with the tuning could be changed by just putting members of the choir in different spots. I am going to have to assume that this is a high school choir. The sopranos just cant support their high notes.Change the style up too, rather boring to listen to.

  • Nah, you're not being picky at all. You're exactly right.

  • For the love of the gods...this has got to be the WORST performance of The Awakening ever. I would know...I was just in perhaps one of the most beautiful of them all...the NCBDA Honour Choir at Chico State University. There were so many things wrong with this performance. I am appalled at the butchery you people committed to such a magnificent piece of music. Learn to sing MUCH better before you perform next time.

  • Im sorry to say this but a concert choir (by this I mean a choir that isnt top caliber)should never do this piece. They are just not talented enough to pull it off well enough. You put the song to shame and the vowels are terrible. Any good director would have caught the boys at the very beginning saying "I dreaded 'uh' dream." Instead of, "I dreamed AH dream" like it should be. It just bugs me, very sorry.

  • I'm doing this song right now in my choir, I hate how the way shes conducting it. Not to be a dick but mixed choirs suck. I hate singing with women.

  • what was it? i sang in one of the top schools of michigan.. =)

  • think they are just high school kids cant ask more out of them..=) i thought, it was a pretty good performance. not the best but good for there level..

  • Don't worry! The SATB arrangement isn't even that good. Listen to the TTBB arrangement sometime. AMAZING!!! You just need a talented group...

  • wow... when they say "a dream" it sounds like a nasty uh instead of an ah. really shitty

  • I hope this choir didn't go to contest. This was painful to listen to. The vowels were horrible and the intonation was nonexistant. Ugh.

  • srry to say my friend, but i had to reply this comment, i am a grad out of UofM (university of Michigan)but this to be a high school group i think they did an outstanding job. i don't think you could get more out of a high school.. they are still voices in change.. just wanted to say that. reply back da would be nice to have a discussion

  • wow, ten months later, lol. i really think you could expect a lot more out of a high school choir. sure, voices are still changing in high school, but that shouldnt affect the vowels they sing with. The eee's in dream are screechy and any time they sing the word "a" it sounds like uh, which is how people talk. the vowels need rounded out. and as far as intonation... that could be chalked up to changing voices... it's not the worst part of the performance.. but it's not good either.

  • there is a lot of talent in these voices, more direction is needed than OK heres the words.

    be dynamic!

    pronounciation!!

either the altos are trying to be sopranos

  • omg does this choir not know wat dynamics are??!!

  • This is much too bright...the song doesn't seem to work with that. So when the sopranos hit high notes, it sounded pinched.

  • what happen to the wonderful minor at song of love?

    also, vowels...just maybe

but since your a concerty chior, i'll let it pass...but lord that Awake...you sang it how you say it.....

  • I sang this when I was in high school.

  • i love this song, we sang this song in our choir

  • WOW i can really hear myself when the tenors sing "awake awake" dang
