  • Dinah Shore appeared for Chevrolet (on TV) from 1951 through '61.

  • Man, how I yearn for those simpler days and those sexy cars.... and yeah, I have to say it.... Dinah Shore was a babe.

  • ahhh, the nostalgia of white america!!

  • For a mediocre commercial with a not so catchy tune, this sure is a long one. Nothing about seeing the USA.

  • @ewd76 yea i thought i was the only one that noticed that? nothing about the car or the features, nothing about seeing america, nothing but cartoonish music and almost animated singing.

  • I have no idea why but I just love the 59 Chevys....I see one and I always smile: just love the totally radical design, and that they weren't afraid to have those sweeping lines and crazy rear end !!! Belisimo...

  • These were the days when you were proud to drive American. Chevy now is Government Motors. It will be a cold day in hell before I support Chevrolet or GM ever again. Nissan is parked in my garage.....and will be for the future.

  • @Glock2021273032 Are you kidding me, That has got to be the lamest thing I ever read

  • @macgcahill You spend your cash the way you want to, and I will spend mine the way I see fit. You are probably a big Socialist/Communist who loves the "Big Government" idelogy........ typical of idividuals who leave comments like yours.

  • @Glock2021273032 And you are probably one of those extremist right-wing nut balls

who run around the woods on weekends in camouflage "training" for the day when

you can use your Glock to defend America against a devilish force of Harvard professors, lesbians with buzz cuts, USPS workers and whoever else pushes the buttons of your paranoid mind...typical of individuals lwho leave comments like yours.

  • @donwert: Damn your a smart man my friend. Yes, I am one of those guys that spent alot of time in a foreign land serving in our beloved United States military in "CAMO" running around in the desert and various other parts of the world so you can come on this blog and voice your opinion of how you love Government Motors, and I have shurley earned the right to do the same saying I hate the bastards. Have a good day "Sir"........and double middle fingers to you.

  • Love American cars and this country but the 59 Chevy full size was an UGLY CAR! The '55 to"58 were far better as was everything from about 62 to about 71.

  • and try to think in 2011 that such luxury cars were able to be bought by an average factory worker...

  • What a BEAUTY 1959 Impala it's even more beautiful in Red! When cars were made strong in America!

  • I remember seeing Dinah Shore downtown in Chicago at the Illinois Center. She had on a black fur coat and boots and must have been in her 60's. She looked beautiful.

  • awesome commercials back in the days, wished i lived in those times ,everything seemed more fun then nowadays, these times suck

  • anyone know where this was filmed?

    So. Cal somewhere.

Dinah was 42 or 43 -- looked good there.

  • I see downthread it was filmed at Palos Verde peninsula.. thanks.

Dinah Shore was still over 10 years away from her romance w/Burt Reynolds.

That would have put her in her mid-50s, Burt in his 30s.

  • My father's first car was a 59 Chevy Impala Sedan..., kinda corny buying a 4-door for a single 21 yr old young man. But then again my father was never a "car guy" anyway. He told me he wrecked it after driving it for about 5 months.

  • Ahh America never looked more picture perfect than this era! Everything was so Colorful, clean, Happy-go-lucky, Bright and Dandy!

  • Back when America was truly AMERICA!!!!

  • bad ass car

  • My late husband and I had a blue 59 Chevy Impala convertible and it was one of the most beautiful cars I have ever been in. These pictures bring back beautiful memories. Thanks You Tube.

  • 1959 Impala >2011 Impala

  • thats a nice impala

  • i wish i had an old car from the 1950's i love those cars

  • Hey falcondriver, without all that danger and lack of safety we might never have had all those great songs about romantic fatal car wrecks.

  • @911jbg You idiot! The best safety equipment you have is your own common sense! Without it, no amount of seatbelting, airbags, 5mph bumpers and ambulence-chasing lawyers can save you from a fatal crash. These cars were not only fun and comfortable to drive, but they were safe, too. People who were killed in them died for the same reason they die in crashes nowadays--stupidity and inattention on the road, possibly made worse by the advent of the digital age {cellphones, anyone?}

  • I love the lines of those old cars but I'd SURE hate to have a wreck in one. Dangerous & ZERO saftey features.

  • @falcondriver100 I think youv'e been misinformed by anti-classic car nazis who often project their narrative in the popular media: General Motors even in those days, had a department dedicated only to safety. The '59 had zones in the engine compartment, the doors & quarter panels that would collapse to absorb the impact of an accident. They weren't stupid, contrary to what youv'e been told. To find an American car with ZERO safety features, you'd have to go back to the 1910's or earlier.

  • @chev6art Sorry but I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about. They didn't have crumple zones, no saftey glass, no collapsable steering column, steel dashboards, doors flew open in crash's, dashboards came into the cabin area, poor brakes, poor handleing, no seatbelts, no airbags, & a ladder or X style frames that folded up.

Take a look at the video "1959 Impala vs 2007 crash".......You might be a bit shocked. Fatal for the 59 occupants, POSSIBLY a foot injury in the 07!

  • @falcondriver100 Yes the did have safety glass! Safety belts and padded dashboards were avaialble. Have you ever taken apart and restored one? Well I Have!, and I damned well know what I'm talking about, sir. The steering whee shaft is not a one-piece assembly like you find in earlier cars not engineered for safety, Doors fly open? It depends on what kind of crash your'e in. Not even modern cars can endure a lot of bad accidents. Yes I've seen the video it doesn't prove '07 cars safer.

  • @falcondriver100 ...Nor does it prove that the '59 was dangerous. Sure, there have been improvements in 50 years, and I am not saying that the '07 is not superior to the '59. But on the road, I wouldn't be afraid to take one out and spend some quality time on the Interstate with my classic Chevrolet. I take my own good sense on the road over the idiocy of the guy ahead or behind me. If you are too fearful of 50's technology, there are plenty of us who'd like to drive one in your place...

  • @chev6art I spent 23 years in an auto body shop starting in 73' & drove a wrecker on the side for 13 of them, but OK, whatever you say.

  • @chev6art, @falcondriver100, @911jbg

google motortrend 1959 chevy impala windtunnel

  • @chev6art Teen angel, teen angel, teen angel, ooh, ooh That fateful night the car was stalled upon the railroad track I pulled you out and we were safe but you went running back Teen angel, can you hear me Teen angel, can you see me Are you somewhere up above And I am still your own true love What was it you were looking for that took your life that night They said they found my high school ring clutched in your fingers tight Teen angel, can you hear me Teen angel, can you see me Ohhh Ohhh wooo!
  • @911jbg Mark Dinning, 1959 (lol)

  • i love that car..

  • Love it!

  • if i could choose from a brand new car and a car from the 50's or 60's i would choose the older one cars back then were built sooo much better back then

  • @Travhouse This is almost laughably untrue.Cars today are far more durable. In the 50s they all rusted out, needed valve jobs after 40,000 miles and were unsafe. Today's cars are much, much safer and reliable. I'm afraid nostalgia has fogged your memory.

  • @donwert YA buddy i think ur life is laughable, cars today are pieces a shit rolling down the road

  • @Travhouse Well, you certainly put me in my place! ROTFLMAO!!!!!

  • @donwert i don't give a shit if i did or not I have my opinion and you have yours.......but your opinion just sucks.....

  • @Travhouse The materials were heavier duty, but the technology in manufacturing was lower. If we manufactured cars today to the specs of cars of yesterday, they very well might last a million miles each.

  • @Travhouse The new cars were not better in safety or mechanical ability......How ever They had PERSONALITY and I would love to have kept many of them that I owned and drove over the last forty years...Drive an old car and you will get thumbs up everywhere!!!

  • american cars looked cool back then.........

  • When I was a kid I used to call Dinah Shore, dinasour

  • its funny cuz they have ash trays for all passangers but no seat belts!!!

  • wow what a blast to the past great posting

  • do you have to wear seat belts if you car is not made for them?

  • @jab287 if your car is pre 1965(possibly 63 not sure of the exact year) then it is not required because most cars before that time were not manufactured with seat belts. you can have them installed now if you want. but it is not required by law in a car that old. unless your worried about your own safety :D

  • And not a seatbelt in sight!

  • This commercial was filmed on the Palos Verde Peninsula just south of L.A..

  • It looked like Paul Taylor.

  • Trying to place some of those Southern California locations... The lighthouse looks like Point Vincente in Palos Verdes, CA. The houses look like Palos Verdes Estates or Rancho Palos Verdes.

The sign on the Chevy dealer: does that say Paul Taylor? Or maybe Phil Taylor?
