  • to the marrow

  • The kind of song that you never really pay attention to and then one day you realize just how great it is. Every Arcade Fire album is full of those songs.

  • This is excellent

  • anyone else reminded of this song with all the happenings as of late?

  • You can't forgive what you can't forget

  • does this song reminds me of 'boy in the striped pjamas'

  • For some reason, the line, "--because the tide is high and it's rising still, and I don't wanna see it at my Windowsill" has always stuck with me. The whole song (and album {and band}) is amazing, but that line just jumps out at me.

  • @Arlgm I feel the same way about that lyric too :)

  • I 8 trains

  • @nyannyanpasta ?? they must be a bugger to digest??

  • I don't like my continent , America.

  • Comment removed

  • @makecupcakesnotwar12 North America and South America are different continents and should be regarded as so.

  • I think that his "fathers house" represents the world that the previous generation has created. "I dont want to live with my fathers debt, you can't forgive what you can't forget"- great line

  • @makecupcakesnotwar12 I don't like being called American.

  • look up "while the city sleeps - back when we knew", similar colourful soundscapes and big crescendos.

  • arcade fire has changed my life i want to thank them for that i love there music always will

  • "I don't wanna live if my fathers dead" line always gets me. Win is a genius lyricist

  • @splinter360 I think it's "I don't wanna live with my Fathers debt", though I definitely agree that he's a genius lyricist!

  • @06icebat Oh really. Thanks a lot man. Always nice to be corrected on here by someone who isn't an asshole. And yh he is amazing.

  • @makecupcakesnotwar12 man i hope your being sarcastic

  • @MrEbone101 Your country is called the "United States of America. The terms America and Americas should only be reserved for the continents.

  • @makecupcakesnotwar12 North America is a continent. America is not a continent. It's North America, Central America, South America or the Americas. America is not a continent.

  • @platypae333 Your country is called the "United States of America. The terms America and Americas should only be reserved for the continents.

  • @CardingtonLZF You assume I'm from the US. I'm not. I'm Canadian and I dislike being called American.

  • I dont want to live in America no more. I can relate to that, it's truly a shame what our country has become. I wish I could have some pride in our country, but I can't convince myself in to a prideful state, although I wish I could. Our country was founded on the most noble and honorable of principles and values.... I don't know what happened.

  • @KCkoolaidking Amen. I hate this country so much, because I love it so much. If that makes sense.

  • @SeoulSon51 Makes perfect sense, you condensed my comment perfectly.

  • @SeoulSon51 well we are not the only country that has been completely sucked dry by giant private mega banks that fund wars and unrest in the third world. Take a look at Greece where everyone is rioting because of the banks. The private corporate take over of America is the problem, but at the same time these "capitalists" push for consolidation of government and the promise of a wonderful communist paradise, even though the consolidation of government only gives them power.

  • @FlamingLavaOwl I couldn't agree with you more.

  • I can really relate to this song. i think it's about how the children must live with the mistakes of the previous generation. We are inheriting a world on the brink of annihilation, a consumerist culture, environmental destruction and a lot of social programming (MTV). It is about rejecting these things and learning from the past and trying to not make the same mistakes as our fathers.

  • America is anti-white.

  • This song reminds me of The House on Mango Street

  • Neon Bible will forever be "the difficult second album" for critics, but it is a beautiful, elegant record that simultaneously lifts you above the furore and shit of everyday life and equally takes the blinders off your eyes and says "yeah, life isn't perfect."

  • Underrated song. Extremely underrated album. How some people can dislike Neon Bible is beyond me...

  • @bobdebicker Totally agree. It's like no other and carries powerful messages which are not thrust down our throats. It's beautiful poetry and music

  • grandioso tema

  • I don't wanna live in America no more.

  • awsome music!

  • "World War 3, When are you coming for me,

been kicking the sparks, set the flames free,

the windows are locked now, so what'll it be?

A house on fire, or a rising sea?"

Man, all their lyrics are vague, subtle, yet powerful. Can't seem to grasp any meaning out of most of them, but I know there's something there.

  • amazing vid

    amazing song

  • this song makes me want to run away without direction

  • Another great track from Arcade Fire!

  • @Ritalynn666 if you dont like it why are you listening to it???!!!!!

  • @Ritalynn666 Whenever a comment has the phrases/words/abbreviations "lol", "epic fail" or "wtf", my expectations for the intelligence of the comment is lowered.

  • A beautiful piece of music. Now they've got a grammy and two brits. Just so glad that they've been recogised

  • With a lot of Arcade Fire songs I sort of like them but not that much and then, one day I listen to them and they're the greatest song ever.

  • @platypae333 I totally get what you mean(: Like at first with that song "Neighborhood # 2 (Laika)" I twas like...alright, this is ok..I listened to it a few more times...."holy crap, this is amazing!!!!"

  • @platypae333 i just fricking noticed that recently

  • 8 people want to see it from their windowsill!

  • "I don't want live in America NO more"

  • @oesbob thats weird. dont they live in canada?

  • @oesbob wanna make an exchange? I come to America- you come to Greece. ?

  • this songs describes just about everything concerning life for me.

  • @fleethead Arcade Fire are a awake band, don't know about there fans. Neon Bible really made me start to think deeper about real issues and that was way back in 2007.

  • @withnielandi damn hipsters....

  • @Ritalynn666 hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • 6 of one lol i heart this band.

  • CHRIST these this song makes me either wanna save the world or blow it up.

  • this better not be an amateur video!!! its taking stuffing long to load and i'll be pissed off if its some yuppie student going through there pretence for the arts phase!!

  • I love songs like this make's you think and feel.

  • i was re-united with my father to this song.

  • @ruggedfiLth gay

  • World War III, when are you coming for me?

  • Comment removed

  • ...i don't have any words to describe how awesome this band really is. =)

  • cool video, you made it?

  • arcade fire is without a doubt the best new band of the 2000's.

  • "Don't wanna fight in a holy war...

I don't wanna live in America no more."

  • Arcade Fire remind me of Mumford and Sons , ... <3

    lovee ... there growerss

  • @FROGvTOAD *they're, Mumford and Sons remind me of Arcade Fire for dummies.

  • @jacklikeskebab sorry i can't spell!

and your comment does not make sense.

  • @FROGvTOAD Sorry but they don't remind me of mumford and sons, Arcade fire make M&S wet the bed.

  • This song has inspired me to begin living an unmaterialistic lifestyle. It's the whole message behind the song. It's about the greediness everyone has as American's. We're heading down a bad path that needs to be changed. I never realized that until I heard this song.

  • @jackfn1234 awsome

  • @jackfn1234 i had realized this for a while. this song has has made me see that im not the only one who thinks this way

  • What about this video? This video is amazing!!!

  • neon bible is the perfect follow up to funeral. high expectations were met and exceeded with this album. i loved funeral the first time i heard it, neon bibles a grower!

  • ''Pops Concert Performance'' is my brothers version

  • im dedicating this to my father..lol

  • This song is amazing, this album, the whole band. FOr myself, I can't say that I've ever loved a sound of a band or every single song from a band like I can with Arcade Fire.

  • @katiedid1023 Thats how I feel about Modest Mouse lol but Arcade Fire is really Good,This is actual Music :D

  • Great song. I don't love neon bible like i love funeral, but there are a few great songs on this album. Windowsill is one of them.

  • @dspinx The pants I recently changed out of beg to differ.

  • you can't forgive what you can't forget.

  • @electriclimits amen

  • World War III PLEASE DON'T come for me..

  • The lyrics to this song are so gold

a very subtle slap in the face

  • not so subtle i think... lol

  • Well, yeah maybe you're right lol

  • Neon Bible - Amazing Album, love the words in this song - sounds like a very dissillusioned person indeed, greed, corruption, abuse of power, disregard for human life, sounds like most "Fathers Houses" whichever country you live in.

  • Might be my favorite song from Neon Bible, and keep the Car Running is REALLY hard to beat!

  • RhythmGrizz, might be my favorite comment and

Calvinman710 is REALLY hard to beat!

  • you can't forgive what you can't forget!

  • can someone tell me what guitar win plays in this and the Miroir Noir version? PLEASE someone help me as i want to learn this so bad

  • mtv, what have you done to me?

  • The more I listen, the more I love it. Awesome song.

  • I LIKE THIS :) LOADS AND LOADS! lovely and simple and beautiful. add me we can be friends haha

  • You are wrong.

    Video is perfect.

  • Take the stick out from your anus, people are free to express their music any way they like. Who are you to judge?

  • And stifling the creativity of artist's on Youtube doesn't make you sound brilliant.

The simplicity is beautiful, The song is touching.

  • At least an intelligent conversation came out of this. And we're at no disagreement when it comes to the song's greatness. I'll chalk this up as a Win for AF.

  • i bet you didnt even watch it the whole way through maaaan. give it another go! :)

  • I listened to this song once and instantly it was my favorite Arcade Fire song

  • loved this.

  • trippy music video

  • It's really rare that you find a band like Arcade Fire that has orgasmic lyrics in every song, and has the catchy rhythm to back it up

  • @Calvinman710 vampire weekend, fleet foxes, element of crime, sirgur ros, the album leaf, muse, radiohead, coldplay, lykke li, grizzly bear, band of horses, empire of the sun, noah and the whale, feist, yael naim, josé gonzales, kings of convenience, andrew bird, mumford and sons, the good the bad and the queen, minus the bear, cold war kids, of montreal, the dead weather ...

  • @eastereggg

    coldplay?

    seriously?

  • @corncornrocks

    /watch?v=_7OQSl4FdJE&feature=related

  • @eastereggg

it didn't work :( just tell me what the video is ill search for it

  • @corncornrocks

    googlesearch:

aldosetecidades 29. April 2006 coldplay - the scientist live

  • @eastereggg

It's funny you use that specific video as an example, since it is already in my favorites. It's not that I don't like coldplay. But he said "Orgasmic lyrics in ever song" and almost all of Coldplay's lyrics are sub par.

  • @corncornrocks i was sub par today after 9 holes WHAT?!?!?!??!?!??!?

  • @HJManson sorry to hear that. hope you can lower your handicap soon.

  • @corncornrocks sub par is a good thing for me!

  • @Calvinman710

Agreed. I have come to conclusion that only the people that love pleasure and are intense hand to hand with life love Arcade Fire. Because they have the substance to understand Arcade Fire's lyrics and music in itself, and are able this way to feel the feeling and intensity they put into their songs. These are songs mentally, emotionally and spiritually intelligent. Yes... that's what I feel.

  • @spellthemagicword god you're intolerable.

  • @HJManson

Haha, thanks for that :) You're only revealing how you feel about yourself ;) And WE know that :D Peace and lots of hugs with love :)

  • @spellthemagicword can't really feel intolerable about myself can I ;)

  • @Calvinman710 EXACTLY. i just started listening to them, and consider them to be a favorite already. every song is more impressive than the last. my fav so far is neighborhood 1. got a few favs i might not have heard?

  • ''I don't wanna see it at my windowsill"

what does he want to say with this sentence?

  • It's an anti-war song, so he is saying that he doesn't want to look out the window and see war.

  • yeah i know but i have don't understand the part with the windwosill...thx^^

  • It's possible that he is referring to television, since it is one of the albums themes.

  • not on his doorstep

  • "Why did I take the pill" That sentence moves me everytime I hear it. Beauty to the core.

  • because

  • Did you openly bring your camera into the grocery store? because I've always wanted to make a movie in Wal-Mart.

  • how have i missed this band? i love it

  • Woah, those lights are trippy. xD

    Love the song. :)

  • what's with the flashing lights from 1:38?

    awesome song!

  • We are the world we live in. Look at it ,face it, see how you allow the negative stuff to perpetuate in your own ways, be conscious of it. The first step is always recognizing the problem and taking responsibilty.

  • the Tibetans say "when one is not free, all are not free", the same applies for everyone in this world..If one being here is not enjoying the experience of life then all cannot possibly be, truly. Thats why we should give a shit about making this an experience worth having cause theres alot of good but not everyone is fortunate enough to experience life to the fullest because of fears that manifest in all sorts of ways in our world, wars, judgements, economic inequality etc..

  • The only way were gonna get out of "Our Father's debt" is if we collectivly take responsibilty for the shit world we have created and for each individualy to make the changes in themselves to reflect the world they really want to be and be in. Which basically means to get rid of all self doubt and fears.Only way to change outer world is to change our inner ones. Everyone together, cause were all in this creation we have created together. Things can always be better.

  • my favourite song off of neon bible. Gets me pumped and a little dancy. but not as dancy as rebellion(lies) whoop whoop!

  • It isn't THE ARCADE FIRE..its simply ARCADE FIRE! DAMMIT!

  • Actually it's either, according to Win Butler.

  • i don't want to give them my name and address, i don't want to live with my fathers debt, i don't want a salesman at my door, i don't want to live in america no more... pretty self explanatory.

  • why did i take the pill? cuz i don't want to see it on my windowsill... i think its about how america is all about consumerism.

  • my new book is coming out soon with resolution, read my confession on line free. neooneorg I agree with you man

  • I kind of think of it as if he's being surrounded by propaganda and lies doesn't know who to trust. Kind of political kind and spiritual.

  • almost, i don't think this one has any particular spiritual references.

  • What about "I don't wanna fight in a holy war"?

  • Uh what about: "I don't want to live in my father's house no more"? John 14:2

  • Uhhh... "Save my soul, set me free!"

  • Yes, instead of Father's house referring to heaven or the church, I think in this case it refers to America in general. The "Fathers" of Arcade Fire are from Texas.

As far as waking up... I kinda like America, and regardless, I don't see how Canada or any modernized country is much different.

  • Canada didnt go to war with another country for the flimsiest of reasons, thousands of miles away resulting in millions of deaths

  • Millions of deaths hmm? You might want to check your numbers before spouting outrageous liberal propoganda.

  • 'Outrageous liberal propoganda' that's hilarious. I'd be an outrageous liberal anyday.

  • I'd be a propaganda any day.

  • what does this song have to do with canada or america or war?

  • Well, there's that line "World War III when are you coming for me?" I also think that the imagery of the rising tide has to do with the increasing paranoia that built up in the US following 9/11. But then again, a lot of it is about materialism and hollowness (MTV, what have you done to me?).

  • Didn't Canada send troops to Iraq?

  • no

Canadian trrops are in Afghanistan. They didnt feel like it was right to invade Iraq without more concrete evidence of weapons of mass destruction.

  • I dont wanna see you
