Actually answering my own question here I have a feeling the "Noel" award is "The Golden Egg Award" given out on his Late Late Breakfast show.

I'm sure the award with a rainbow on it was called an 'Eric' and that's what they sing about in the chorus. From memory Eric was a 'behind the scenes' character that nobody ever saw or heard. But when a competition winner was being chosen from a load of cards sent in by viewers they used to lower the container holding the cards from the ceiling and they used to ask 'Eric' to lower the container? Clear as mud? Hope that helps !
