  • its the diesel powered clock!! or at least it runs like one.

  • 80 hp but 8755746 ft lb's of torque

  • AWESOME!

  • Send t his to Afghanistan;it would blow the Talibani away!

  • wow nice

  • hell it would take 80hp just to turn that big steel wheel lol

  • super maszyna a ten dźwięk po prostu SUPER

  • I love all them Fairbanks Morse here on Ytube.

They are powerfull, slim shaped and do have such a nice slightly angry humming beat.

Even it looks as if they were ahead of time because they seem to be build maintenance friendly.

    Best regards

  • cool.

  • Very nice engine. Nice sound.

  • nice and clean Well done.

  • What a sweet engine.

  • runs nice and smooth. Where would they have used one of these at? A hospital, power plant? Neat.

    Cassy

  • This generated electricity for a convent. the Sisters of Oldenburg in southeastern Indiana.

  • wow that engine is smaller than one of my oil wells lol

  • Pretty sure thats what I SAID!!!! Torque is the thing thats important... Mabye you ment to reply to the other idiot. Logic2reason

  • No, because horsepower is important too. If you have ALL torque, the engine is hardly spinning at all. 100HP. You can have 100lb ft of torque at 3000RPM, or you can have 700lb ft of torque at 50rpm. which one seems like it would be more useful in a car?

  • This isn't a car. And if it was you could always gear up to make it work. Old steam cars had direct drive, and LOTS of torque... just depends on the application needed. The only way to make more HP is to increase RPM, or increase torque. Torque can be increased by building a bigger engine, or using a turbo/supercharger to effectivly increase and engines displacement... more air, more fuel, more bang... but torque is where it starts.

  • Its very simple, a engine with a lot of power (HP) either has a high rpm or high torque. And infact, with enough gears a high rpm engine can work as a high torque engine. (or the other way).

  • @slome815

Yes but gears increase the weight, and causes energy loss about 10-20%

  • Torque is the actual turning force of the engine, and horsepower is the total amount of work that can be done. IE can move 100 pounds 100 feet in one minute, or can move 500 lbs 5 feet in one minute. A rough example that is not even close to the real amounts, but it shows what I mean. We could assume if those numbers were right (which they arent) they could be considered both equal to 1 horsepower. get it?

  • Maybe you should get a refund for the high education. Your definition of POWER is issue. If you want to talk about energy output you should talk in WATTS or JOULES, not HP. HP is the calculated number. . Torque is a measured number...IE the REAL number. There is a reason that SHIPS, TRUCKS, HEAVY industry USE big slow turning HIGH TORQUE engines. Not small high reving engines,.. You need torque to move stuff. If an engine could turn unlimited RPM then you idea might work. but in reality not.

  • Sorry bur pileofiron is right Torque is what does WORK.. not HP. Any LARGE vehicle that does powerfull stuff. Has big torque number.. Like my Semi truck. 15Liter engine... only 450HP..less than some cars. But it makes 1800LbFt of torque at 1200RPM. If you would take a 450HP high reving car engine.. it would NOT move the weight... Or only if you geared it way down. Also the engine would not last long. keeping the revs low make the engine last. If your looking for energy output use Watts.

  • your right i drive a steam train its 8hp and it has tons of torque......

  • Torque is how much work can be done, Hp is how fast that work can be done.

  • Formula for torque is H.P. X 5252 divided by RPM's. In the same application this engine will do the same thing as any car with 1400lbs torque.

  • what is it powering? (the generator hooked up to it I mean)

  • They are running some lights around the display and the railroad crossing lights.

  • That engine is making 1400.53 ft/lbs of torque @300rpm

  • How many volts??

  • 110 volts D.C.

  • what is or was it used for

  • Ran a 50 KW. D.C. generator.

  • What year is that motor? I love it!!

  • 1927

  • 1927... And it still works like clockwork!

    Hella cool engine. :D

  • How is it cooled?

    Thank you

    Charles

  • At the back of the engine you see a wagon that has water in it. It is just circulated thru the wagon for cooling. They do run this most all day long.

  • there is An old Marion 2700 down Cadiz Ohio in peaces With a 5 cylinder I just cant wait untill its put back together and hear that baby run

  • so smooth i wonder if my F.M. model z style d

will run that smooth definatly not as slow

  • That is one big engine you have there.

  • How many kilowatts? around 55?

  • Yes, it is rated at 50 KW Dc voltage. they are demonstrating it bu running some lights and a RR crossing light.

  • 80 Hp at lets say, estimate, 4 ton? Totally Wicked!

  • I would say a little closer to 12 ton!!

  • That's just like the one up in Portland, Indiana, isn't it? Only I think the one in Portland is 100hp.

  • Yes it is like the one at Portland but 20 less H.P.

  • Hot-bulb engine, isn't it? The solid-injection ones are quite similar.

  • Sorry so slow with the reply. This is a true diesel engine. It has no hot bulbs. This engine runs smooth and for it's size is very quite. I will post a movie of it being started soon.

  • How many RPMs was this thing turning?

..and what was that device on the ground? Fuel regulator?

  • I don't know the RPM,s. The device on the ground is the switch for railroad crossing lights.

  • Oh, I was thinking it may have had some kind of electronic fuel regulator governor, guess not :-P

  • It sounds like it's running at about 360 RPM, or 6 revolutions per second.

  • This engine is rated at 300 RPM's.

  • Where is this engine on display?

  • This diesel engine is on display every year at the Brookville, Indiana show in September.

  • lol it sounds like its running deisel lol!!!!
