I've pet stingrays before, and they are actually so cute! They get so excited about getting a treat and they feel so cool when they swim up against you. I asked the guy who worked there if they were aggressive, and he picked one up and put the whole tail in his mouth, stinger and all! Seriously, best. experience. ever.

How can you ppl afford to go on these trips to the French Polynesia? Going to Bora Bora has been a dream of mine since as long as I can remember, but the trip there and to stay there costs almost more money than I make in one year, I am not even close to be able to get there. =(

I just have to be happy for you ppl who gets to do this! Have fun for me too!! =)

By the way, I live in Sweden. So Bora Bora is just about the other side of the world for me.

@MrTenshu well this is not bora bora it's moorea and it less expensive .. i used to live in tahiti it's a beautiful place .. bora bora is nice but it's only for tourists if u wanna see the real french polynesia go to tahiti and moorea not bora :)

Great stuff. We have just returned from a Pacific island tour and all over French Polynesia these wonderful animals are chasing after humans together with the Black Tip Sharks. Swimming with these animals was the highlight of our 6 week cruise, especially at Bora Bora. Im going back there simply to see these animals again. Thanks for the clip.

Ah I remember when I was in moorea a couple monthes ago:) went stingray and shark petting with the same guy in the wetsuit.. Going back most likely in July - October:) can't wait I loved it there sooo muchXDDD

Sting rays are about as dangerous as a puppy, it was unfortunate what happened to Steve irwin, but the ones he was with were much more bigger than what i have been with, The only scary thing the stingray does is flap water, and how it sucks up the food from your hand. they were pretty cool, did this once but i didnt submerge fully into the water

We did this early '09 and loved it. We didn't feed them, though. They seemed curious to be around. They did not feel threatened so I don't think they would have hardened their barbs. Some black tip reef sharks also showed up and I touched them too.

I did this on my honeymoon in Moorea. Albert Tours was the agency that we went with, but there are other tour agencies that lead "swimming with rays" trips. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done. The stingrays are like dogs just after you've gotten home after a long day of work -- jumping all over you, happy to see you.

I have done this 9 times. The rays are very friendly, like puppies, they enjoy comng up to you and going to your chest. So ladies.......push them down slowly and they will move on to someone else. They can be fed with fresh cut fish and place it underneth their mouth which will suck up the food like a vacuum. They are soft on the top and also their skin is like sandpaper. Moorea is my island.

no they don't. rays won't sting you unless you step on them.  it's a reflex reaction. they're docile animals

kkrakenn, stingrays are intelligent and gentle - just not as cute as dophins so they get bad press. These rays are used to the tourist boats and choose not to sting because they get a treat. Like "wild" ducks on a public pond, they are familiar with people.
