@All-American1964 (This is Joel's Post 2 of 2) I agree, there will never be another run of music like the 1960's. Now, the question WHY? I'm almost 57...10 yrs. older than you. During the 60's in the U.S and Britain, people tossed off their societal blinders and flew off in their own directions like never before. Couple that will all the drugs that propelled musicians in these directions, and the recordings of the day captured this explosion. Record companies back then gave artists more leeway.
The Lovin' Spoonful stole the spotlight on this song. The Critters had a couple of good songs on their own. Who wrote this song? Just curious who got there first!
@mackb909 you are wrong....the loving spoonful did not have a bigger hit with this song...as a matter of fact their version did not even make the hot 100 at all! The critters version made #38 on the u.k. charts....
As good as this(and it's plenty good at that) I much prefer the version of The Hondells, but they're both (Critters and Hondells) fine examples of cult favorite bands from 60's, unfortunately, they both fell prey to the fickle A.M. radio music machinery!
This (and the version by The Lovin' Spoonful, also) is a lost classic that mainstream FM oldies stations hardly ever play anymore. Thank you YouTubers for uploading lost classic songs such as this. Otherwise, one would have to subscribe to Sirius or some other satellite music service to hear this song and other great 'lost classics' on the airwaves.
What a great song, man! Why can't there be music like this today, music with melody and harmonies that touch your heart and soul and make you feel warm and fuzzy all over. These classics will live on forever and ever. I was born in '64 and wish
I could have enjoyed all the awesome swinging tunes, songs that caused much love between people and just made you feel good to be alive! I love you swinging sixties!!!
@AllAmerican1964 (Joel's Post #1 of 2) Well then, since you're of one generation but yearning to be part of a generation before you, you'd proudly and properly be known as a "throwback". It's interesting here in YouTube, a lot of kids that are currently in their late teens and twenties LOVE this music we're listening to from the 60's. It's amazing what they write about the music of today..how it absolutely sucks, and I'd agree. I also agree that there will never be another(See Joel's 2nd Post)
As much as I liked the Lovin' Spoonful's version, this is just a little bit better. Love the vocals and the way they sing it. What a great time to grow up. The music will never be equalled again.

@disconcertedd The Critters version is poppier. The LVS version is folkier. Personally I like this version better but its originally an LVS song.
