I recently got into Sparklehorse. One of my favorite musicians, Koji Iwata (Hermit) talked about how much Sparklehorse inspired him. I've really fallen in love with this band now, it has opened up my heart. Both Hermit and Sparklehorse have some of the most enchanting music I've ever heard. What's sad is Hermit is always sick and in and out of the hospital. He said Sparklehorse's music kept him going and that as long as Mark Linkous was ok, he could get through anything. That made me cry. RIP
If you watch the documentary on his life, he has an old abandoned house near his home that he used to go to, so he could read his magazines and this video-clip was filmed inside that very place.
@littlgrlblu he's exclusive...he was indie and he rocked...i got to meet him on several ocasion because i live where he used to live and where all his family lives....(richmond va) great man...he's really popular around here.
Oh the irony-you never got to say goodbye! Mark you never had a stupid mind-your thaughts travelled the planet! Let's all get together sometime and 'see you like I do'! RIP great one.........sleep tight and goodbye mate
The pain of these tortured geniuses is almost more than I can take. Please...Jack White, Jeff Tweedy, Dan Auerbach etc...keep your sh*t together. RIP Mark. I first heard your music on the Laurel Canyon soundtrack and loved you ever since.
what the fuck is going on in this fuckin country when the only time we here great bands like this is in the fuckin news after some tragic event that has happend to them. MTV YOU began the slow death of music such as this you have killed the soul of music like this you fuckin vampires, but i do feel the noose beginning to tighten and i hope MTV for you it is a slow miserable ride into oblivion.
@cjcoco541 Same here....on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) here in Canada...except they played "Little Fat Baby"....couldn't believe what I was hearing, and was saddened that such a gifted songwriter gave up on life...Vic Chestnutt too...but glad I know about them now...and trying to get others to appreciate their music.
@cjcoco541 btw, my absolute favourite and one of the best songs I've ever heard is "hundreds of sparrows" in case you haven't checked that one out yet :)
what the fuck mark ......you never said goodbye you must have really been sick of it but i would have been cool with ill see ya later....i will miss you anyway you were a true talent
I'm a "stay at home" musician and in his passing I am realizing what a tremendous influence he has been on my own music over the last decade and how we tend to throw names around for simile such as 'alice in chains' and 'smashing pumpkins', but in reality I suspect our home recordings would probably sound much closer to the craft he perfected in studios to a pair of fresh ears.
You know how everyone is saying that Mark's music will live on, well I just looked in the paper read an article about his life, then I thought I would check out some of his works and I have been extrememely impressed
I realised, last night, that I'll never get to hear Mark's voice live. Or on another record. It was saddening. He'll live on through his music. What a fucking genuine, true inspiration.
I want my records back, and that motorcycle gastank that I spraypainted black.
@egerillskansjalf I got to see them live in Madison, WI at the High Noon Saloon. It was awesome. about a year later the band I play drums in played there too so It was really awesome that I performed on the same stage as sparklehorse. Low also played there too and so did Gene Ween. Blows my mind I was on that stage.
I will miss Mark. Hits just as hard as when my Mom died. I can't believe there won't be anymore sparklehorse.
