This boat looks just like the one we saw during our house boat rental on lake Shasta. A holes shot a deer (awfully small) from thier moving boat right in front of us. Then later (we moved our boat) saw them again just after sunset using a spot light!
It's perfectly legal to hunt deer on the lake. You can even shoot from your boat as long as it is not under power. Also you should NEVER feed ANY wild animal no matter how cute or cool you think it is. It is illeagal to harrass hunters. When it comes down to it you should never take action yourself. If you feel someone is doing something illegal (in this case) write down the CF numbers on the side of the boat and call or find law enforcement and report it.
I agree bad ethics but he might have been legal if he was on the B zone side of the lake and if it was in season. B zone still is not a lotto YET, but from the sounds of it he was more than likely on the C zone side of the lake and that is a draw hunt. City hunters hunt off easy kills.

Um.. deer season for this area with a bow is open for a brief period I believe from late august thru first week of Oct and is subject to change from year to year.. but from what i understand deer tags were limited and I do believe that year were issued on a lottery basis. in the least you are required to have your tags in your possession.. Unfortunately, the LAW is on the side of the hunters. Since you were feeding the deer tomatos you COULD be fined for Baiting the deer. howerver, since you were not hunting or trapping, you would MOST LIKELY not be charged. Most want to hunt another season. Also judging by the reasction of our kids the hunter knew it was a bad idea. It's his dad who lacks judgment. And my cousin too.

hunting is legal but really, that was the smallest deer for the fatest family. During the altercation one says, "this is how we feed our family!". To that I say they must be great hunters because they are so fat. I agree that hunting can be fun and safe. I also think hunters should know when to shoot safely as well as when to earn your kill. This would have pissed off 18 people to feed 4 already fat ass junk show/white trash people.

as a matter of fact we are great hunters and yes we kill lots of animals very year. if you lived in our county you wouyld know that what happened was perectly legal and accecatable and to tell you the truth i dont about pissing off 18 people in fact i dont think they are pissed i think of them as educated in the way a "fat ass junk show/white trash people" live and eat

Stop harrassing legal hunters, in a LEGAL area. NOTHING they did were illegal, if you don't like it, leave. Don't confront them. If it was me and it was in the woods, you better be armed. Hunters are the first Conservationist and the ONLY conservationists. hunting at shasta is legal,and there is a reason for it.they need to keep the deer population under control at the lake.the deer seem to get extra nutrition from the city folk who come up there and illegally feed the deer.but dont get me wrong,im not siding with either party here,i do go houseboating and i do not hunt,but killling a deer in front of some others i wouldnt do even if i did hunt.theres also other ways this could have been dealt with,i dont think i would tell some drunk hunter to...

totaly agree. As you see in the video I ran to the hunter and used reason that he at first understood. by are body languge you can tell it's almost over until my cousin opens his mouth and pissed off the dad and mom.

the young hunter was wise to equate the event as "not good practice" and realized there would be another day. Not to mention it was a small dear. They did come back by to taunt us and scare everyone but they didn't shoot the dear in front of the kids. later we did find it was illegal to feed the dear and hunt them.

your wrong, hunting shasta lake is perfectly legal, i live in redding and have hunted the lake several times, i have called the rangers office and confirmed it. i wouldnt however shoot a deer right in front of kids who were feeding it. by the way, feeding deer is illegal, whether your hunting them or not.

If we are talking Legally, the hunter was unfortunately not breaking laws. If we are talking morally and ethically, then he absolutely was in the wrong. To bad he did not kill the deer, then he could have been charged with killing a baited deer. Hehehe Sorry you had such a bad experience on your house boat trip!

Unfortunately, the LAW is on the side of the hunters. Since you were feeding the deer tomatos you COULD be fined for Baiting the deer. howerver, since you were not hunting or trapping, you would MOST LIKELY not be charged. Unfortunately again, There is not law prohibiting hunting in a camp site but there should be.

Baiting deer is illegal. Shooting deer from a boat is not. Yelling, griping, complaining, and/or letting your kids do the same on issues they don't understand should be illegal.

Hey feeding the deer made you feel good, just like shooting the deer made them feel good. That's not a very hunt worthy boat. But if they had the endorsements, licenses and adhered to the regulations well shoot on. Sorry your kids had to see it but that's life.

Sorry so late. It ended up he was lieing, NOT a off duty ranger. The real Shasta rangers wanted to talk to him. The very small deer lived another day. My kids still think bambi is majestic. My loud mouth cousin is still loud. But most of all, my children will never forget how much I love them.
