look up 'greatest lyricists ever' in google and look what comes up FIRST,, fucking hell people are thick and the one s that 'like'd need to stop such conformist sheep.
It's weird to think that Moz may have basically turned into a hermit if Johnny Marr Had'nt ever knocked on his door and said I'm going to play guitar over this shit. Moz put out one demo and went back home to his mums flat with his big James Dean & Elvis posters, funny. Also, it takes a genius like Marr to take really dense lyrics like Moz's and come up with what he did. If you never heard a note, only the words, would the accompanying music come to mind?
@DEADHEROS81, It's really ironic that Morrissey's first demo song was named "Wake Up Johnny", when in fact it was Johnny who would eventually wake up Moz.
@DEADHEROS81 Morrissey's lyrics dense? Ha! That is the most uninformed and simply incorrect statement i have ever heard, they are far from dense, what amazes me most is the fact that 22 people 'like' this bollocks. He has been haled as being one of the best lyricists of all time. Marr would have been nothing without Morrissey and vice versa. What he wrote for the Smiths changed and saved lives... fucking hell if you think his lyrics are dense then i'd hate to think what you think are good lyrics
@Macko1968 I recant, i recant, I realised this shortly after my rage black out subsided, then an air guilt, embarrassment and renunciation fell upon my quite rightly. Thank you for instigating this revision Mr Macko... you are quite just. Clearly I am very defensive of my beloved deity. I've learned a lot about myself.
The intensity that made it work probably meant it couldn't last, but you can't help wonder about the songs that got away as a result. Almost criminal really. The Smiths, just 4 years, yet Coldplay currently sit at about ten..............don't tell me there is a god!
Does our Johnny lad look young here f'sure? Bless him & his wee guitar fingers! What a great inspiration to all budding guitarists? But not for me coz' I bin goin' as long as 'im! I really love his unique style of playing..Not at all easy to emulate which is why I choose to write my own songs to develop as a muzo' in my own right..Peace to the world! I love you all! Well almost..Ha ha..Ok bored now bye,eeeeeee........
I know Moz and Tony (rip) had quite a disliking for eachother early on and I know in some ways signing to Rough Trade was Mozzers FU to Factory which to him was kind of the old school at that point plus to that Morrissey wasnt a fan of Factory's roster of stars even if he did play with Vinnie reilly on his first sols effort.
Fiddlesticks Deejus69...Ask anyone in Manchester who "Mr Rock n' Roll" is? I think you'll find they will refer to me, therefor my opinion is exceptionally important & should be revered as such...I have left the building!! No autographs!! Make way, make way!! Heh heh heh...XxX

Hand in Glove is my least favourite Smiths song but the version at the end of this video really rocks.

@Howieeeeex
I think he meant "dense" as in deep, with a lot going on in them. Not dense as in "thick".

@DEADHEROS81 as I've read it, Marr would give Moz a cassette with music and *then* Moz would put the lyrics down...

@DEADHEROS81 I was always under the impression that Morrissey put words to the music.

Wilson wanted Moz, he obsessed about him, he's on record as saying that he wanted him to be his Keats or Wordsworth!

this video only evokes sadness, 2 people who were meant to create music together, no longer do.

Smiths album covers are pure pop art plain and simple...I wish they signed with Tony Wilson. HOW COOL WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN?

Question: What's the classical music heard around 4:50-5:00?

Prokofiev, Romeo and Juliet. I had to google it! They used to have it as the intro music when they played live.
