  • You just helped me pick up my dusty bass again. Thanks, yo

  • Sweet Jean shorts

  • I love this :D

  • Your playing and your modesty are inspiring.

  • Blown away!!!!!!!

Not only awesome but modest aswell!

Your vids are great. Please keep them coming!!!

If that was a mess I sincerely hope I can make a mess like that one day!

All the best from the UK.

    Cheers

    Jon

  • Love it! :D

  • Wow!!! I loved it...man i wish I could do that solo..wow!!! thanks for sharing Felix from Ohio

  • wow that was amazing and really impressive! I'm gonna try to learn some parts of that even if I know I'm gonna struggle with it :-P

    thanks for the inspiration!

  • You're very cool and original...

    genius ?

    I

  • Thanks for the kind words ! the guys that always blow me away are Cliff Williams, Dug Pinnick, plus the Jamersons, etc.

  • i like it sounds pretty nice it cut be funny to learn this song and go over to my music school and then play it i think they will luck a littel xD

  • Don't think you realize how good you are - which is a relief, most people are the opposite

  • thanks!

  • very nice.. i thoroughly enjoy your vid uploads and wish to play like you some day.

  • Thanks so much!

  • i cant see a slow movie of this so i can see what you doing ore is it made one?

  • Thanks for watching!

No, I haven't tried doing this one slow. As it's pretty time consuming, maybe if there's a particular spot you were interested in?

    Again, thanks

  • nope its all of it its just you play that fast xD cut be fun to play for my teacher xD but it looks hard :O

  • You are the best. One thing though, and I think everyone here agrees with me- DO MORE VIDEOS PLEASE

  • Wow, that's one of the best sounding "messes" I've heard on bass! Gotta learn this one.

  • Great stuff. Anything that tight is no mess! My "unique thing", as you put it, is a child's guitar with bass strings. It's impossible to slap on it, but I can't slap anyhow...

  • Thanks! You bass actually sounds really good--as as you surely don't need reminding: "Being able to slap" does not equal "Being able to PLAY..." :D I had to learn that lesson long ago (and a few times afterward as well :)

    Thanks for watching !

  • Thanks so much! My guitar-bass, with its weak pickups, really has a "matt" sound, rather dull and old fashioned. It's all about the action -- Scale length is less than 22", Estring low G to Gstring high G is 7". My dream instrument is the Fender Bass VI, reissued in 2006. In UK it's virtually unobtainable, but I guess never be afraid (or too old) to dream!!

Roy Babbington plays it in Soft Machine

    (1974)

  • that is truly amazing stingrays rule

  • Thanks for watching!

  • amazing !!!!

  • Excellent! Cool bass too!

  • Thanks much !!

  • Absolutely loved it. Depressing though, I am light years BEHIND you.

  • Lol, thanks.. I think every musician sees some other musician in their lifetime that makes 'em seriously consider taking up plumbing or something instead...

the day I bought my 1st new bass (at age 15 or so,) the salesdood did some huge slap thing that intimidated me from EVER trying to slap for the next 3 or 4 years...

Give it time...you'll be a monster someday-- be UNIQUE, no matter what. No one else can be YOU.

    thanks again!

  • I absolutely loved that- some really sweet ideas in there! You rock! Thanks for posting. Us old timers gotta stick together :)

  • YERHHH!! Tabs!!

  • :D

Oh, man... that would take some work...

Tell you what, though. If there's a particular section you're interested in, I might be able to break it down seperately at some point--no guarantees, but let me know..

Again, thanks for watching, and the kind words!

  • You are way too modest... Thanks for posting this! I've been playing bass for only a few months, and this has given me alot of inspiration!!

  • Thanks for the kindness...

I guess it's a real inside joke... I laugh whenI play this, thinking back on the HOURS and hours of toil and sweat back in '89...working on this-and I'd nearly forgotten much of it, so it's fullny to sort of have your hands go on auto-pilot for a bit...and then draw a total blank from time to time inthe middle of it. :)

It'd be just like me trying to get back on a skateboard again after 20 years... I'd be hospitalized in half an hour :D

    Thanks again!

  • nice man, u got the funk!

  • Thanks much...

  • Nice playing. GREAT sound! You're making me want a piezo Bongo. You BAD MAN!

  • :D

    Thanks for the kind words!

  • Unbelievable :O

  • there's a tear in my eye man! extraordinary playing as usual! bravo!

  • that sick. i dont think your kids will be making fun of u

  • lol. thanks for the kinds words!

  • nice one! very nice. u have nay other simple rythyms that can be just played around?

  • Thanks for the kind words! I've got a bunch of old riffs that I've worked around. I can remember bits and pieces...I'll stick a few more up one of these days.

  • WOW!!! I AM A FAN. hitting subscribe right now!!

  • I cant help but comment your videos.. They are awesome!

Your kids will grow up and brag to their friends that their dad could make some seriously FONKY STOO!

  • Where did you get that T-shirt?

  • LOL! My wife got it for me at Target a year or so ago.... I can't remember all the characters anymore from when I was a kid, reading comics at the grocery store....but I thought it was a cool shirt.

    thanks for watching!

  • True talent, rarely found now a days, inspirational. The playing's simply fantastic, and entertaining is what you've achieved! :D

  • Thanks. I'm glad you're motivated to work on discovering all the talent that you've got yourself....there's probably something even more inpirational inside of you. Looking forward to you exploring it!

  • LOOOOVE ur musicianship and more importantly UR HONESTY my friend!.lol- U ROCK!!!!!!~ ...5STAAAAAARRRRRRRSSSSS!~

  • thanks, man.

It means a lot...thanks for watching!

  • 5/5

Gasp! Loved it! Loved the written commentary as well... "chasing your tail" again another great choice of words.

That part at 1:40, where the box was added to the video highlighting your right hand... that was great stuff. No wonder the chops were wearing down.

  • thanks for the kind words!

I really should spend some time working on knocking the rust off of a lot of these...I honestly just haven't had the time (nor the motivation :D )

  • soo sick!!!!!!

  • That was a GREAT Father`s Day Gift!!

  • AMAZING!

  • Lol, thanks for the kind words, everyone! It IS true, as they say: if you make a mistake, don't show it, as people often won't notice anyway... :D Playing this, I just kept coming face to face with the passage of time and the whole "use it or lose it!" of keeping up your chops. Way back then, I used to get super-anal about my playing--so it's good to just laugh and enjoy muffing a few (dozen) notes. By the end, it was like running downhill- you could see the crash coming, lol. :D

  • u think your kids will laugh at you?

nah, they'll show their friends & be like, ya.. my dads badass

  • Just quality, as usual. Keep em coming man, your playing is incredible, magical even. Top notch.

  • Keep the videos coming please

  • That was quality! I love your tone! your very humble which I like, bet lets face it your a top notch bass player!

  • i have GOT to get a sterling Hp. sounds kickass!

  • Thanks much! FWIW, this was on the "single-coil" or middle switch position. There's also a dummy coil under the pickguard on this model to keep the single coil setting quieter. It's about a 65 -35 % bleand between magnetic and piezo pickups (65/mag -35/piezo)

    thanks again for watching!

  • i dont know what you were thinkin at the end calling that a mess! that was funkin awesome man, your a beast. love the sterling too, i just got one myself a little while ago, is that extra knob for a piezo pickup?

  • never mind just saw your "2001 Sterling H with piezo bridge" vid ;)

  • Your modesty about how good you are is inspiring. great solo.

  • Amazing work.
