I think Don King is supremely American. He's used a combination of opportunism, wealth, education (not just institutionalized education, but as he says here "street education") and become a legendary figure. Has he been unethical? Sure. Has he demeaned people? I'm sure. But it is undoubtedly the AMERICAN way. he's very, very clever, smart, and ambitious.

Don King a former numbers backer in Cleveland got to where he is by reading every book he could get his hands while he was in jail. He got his big break in Cleveland in 1971 when Ali decided to let him promote one his fights. Ali went against the wishes of his inner-circle. They wanted nothing to do with Don King. Cool thanks, love books like that.  Recently read "The Evander Holyfield Way" by James J. Thomas II (who was his manager/attorney). I think its the only book that Ive read that has a fair approach to King.
