I'm no big jazz type fan BUT Les Paul was simply brilliant as if we didn't know that already.His contribution to Gibson guitars-helping create the most beautiful and sexy,curvy guitar on earth (all Les Paul models) is amazing. Let's never forget how without Les Paul our recording technology wouldn't be as far along as it is now.

The definition of the word is that over time they have been decidely judged as the best of their kind (so the best of 90s=classic). If you want to use it in a Humanities (the class) type situation then the word classic probably wouldn't apply to any song of the 80s, 70s, 60s, etc either. Just thought I'd point that out since you ragged on that kid for his musical taste.

@Doppeldiva22 He did not design the lespaul,he endorsed it.That was gibson.Later in life after ted mcarty was dead he said he designed the guitar.He had other inventions he did create, like multitracked recordings.And was a hell of a guitar player.But only designed the trapese bridge(later replaced with tun-a-matic)For stability.If you look at his personal guitars they are les pauls only in shape.Things like Low empedence pickups.stereo jacks..etc.etc.Im a huge fan but he did not invent the paul
