Renaissance Hating? very timeline accurate to just before gunpowder inventions. the middle euro renaissance hit its peak and the new gunpowder brought most of europe to its knees in war effort. so really what about late 13th century to late 14th century correct me if I'm wrong
The Renaissance is a "historical time period" that was not only English or Italian.....it was European. you Twit.....Yea I was there on that day too. Greg and I marshaled that joust...:0) .....Warwick
You can call me a moron or whatever you please. I have a Masters in Art History and can tell you that there is no such an English Renaissance no matter what you think or any person in the USA. Renaissance means "revival" and the English had NO revival of anything back in those days, because before that they were stone aged. The Renaissance was the revival of the old Roman and Greek art.
Part 2: And as for the idea of an "English Renaissance", I realize that there is scholarly debate on the subject, and I am no historian, but do a quick google search and you will find several sites that deal with the concept.
You're a moron. The renaissance spread across Europe, starting around Florence in Italy. By the time of Elizabeth I it had reached England. Our faire is set in 1572, the middle of her reign, and our costumes are appropriate for that time.
I work at the Festival, and while we acknowledge that we aren't completely historically accurate, we are certainly more informed than you would like to suggest. Git.

Oh, and as for "...before that they were stone aged.", that couldn't be more wrong.

PART 1: I had posted a reply, but it doesn't appear to be showing up, so I'll try again. Forgive me if it does, and I seem to be repeating myself.
In this context, the term "renaissance" is more a term of art than of history.

Does anyone know in the USA that the Ranaissance is NOT English and those dresses and all that crap they put is ITALIAn and not english.
Back in those days. England was way behind in technology, art, fashion and in general.
They should call this the English festival NOT the renaissance festival
I Bet they don't even know whay Renaissance means.
