Shouldn't we always refer to them as "banana Republicans," not Republicans?
Who else but "banana Republicans" could support unlimited executive power, family dynasties (Duvaliers, Bushes), secret renditions to torture chambers, mercenary armies, 100-year wars, warrantless wiretaps, McCarthyite witch hunts, and the end of habeas corpus?
You'd have to want to live in a banana republic.
Forget the elephant, Republicans, here comes the chaquita!
Gov. Bobby Jindal upped the stakes late Wednesday as he tried to broker the sale of Pilgrims Prides Farmerville processing plants and save 1,300 jobs,
saying that the state and Foster Farms would offer $60 million for the operation Pilgrims plans to idle in April. We increased our investment because
Foster Farms said it would invest another $50 million in new equipment, said Timmy Teepell, Jindal's top staffer
Bush never vetoed a single spending bill and never went against raising the debt ceiling. Also, Republicans never threatened to filibuster any increase in the debt ceiling while Bush was in office. Republicans are just opportunists looking for ways to fool the American taxpayers with tiny tax cuts while spreading the pork around to their political donors.
anyone who wants the truth...the 30 billion bailouts are just temparary fixers to keep people happy as long as it can last even the AIG CEO knows its 500 billion in debt with credit-default swaps..
This Jindal guy is the best that the republicans can put up against Obama? From the opinions of Democrats and almost all of the Republican commentators, this was a truely terrible speech. Republicans are in serious danger of becoming a small regional party unless they come up more of platform than cutting taxes.
This is what the Hilary Clinton campaign said. I never said Fox was not right wing. It is just is the most fair and balanced. At least the guys on Fox guys don't get all faint when a Republican speaks. MSNBC anchors just need to quite making stupid remarks such as "Oh God" before Jindal begins his response. Fox would never allow something like that before Obama or anyone else speaks.
CNN and PBS and NBC are much better than fox. Obviously MSNBC is the liberal fox but I find their one sidedness is more intelligently put than, lets say, Sean Hannity. Chris Matthews, although he can be a bitof a silly douche, can be quite impressive when he's pressing a conservative hard. Again, unfair he doesn't do it as harshly to liberals but still.
Out of the major news networks the CNN was called the Clinton News Network for a reason. And the entire NBC family is so far to the left it is not even funny. A Jindal spokeswoman has admitted to Politico that in reality, Jindal overheard Lee talking about the episode to someone else by phone days later.

Anyways, if this works, all I can tell you is that is really scary that you say you don't care about your freedoms as long as you're told it's for your own good. Any man who will sell his freedom for safety deserves neither and will LOSE both, according to Benjamin Franklin.
losing freedoms to gain safety ... is not that all abstract. i would prefer both freedoms and safety perhaps at the cost of privacy (via technology) Big government is scary but if they ever abused their power, wouldn't the military step in?
i thought of an idea, what about making all transactions transparent and begin tracking them? like having some super computer to track all transactions. Wouldn't that help fix problems, like tracking who is hoarding money (to perhaps better advertise to them possibly), maybe spot bubbles as they form, or track illegal transactions, ... ect ? maybe even put GPS sensors in our currency, probably can't be done yet, but maybe in the near future?
Wha? You decry losing civil liberties under Bush, then you suggest the state enacts surveilance on private citizens to see who is "hoarding wealth" as if it were a crime, so that you may better appropriate it from them? I am really sad that your vote cancels out mine! I got an idea, how about if you want money, get off your rear and go earn a living?
what i am saying is i do not care which approach we take, i do not care about red team or blue team. if one has ideas, lets try em... i do not care if i lose liberties "for my safety"
or if i do not make fortunes of cash. just wondering if there is a better system or way to make it better. i try to be open to ideas, doesnt matter if they are labeled red or blue.
its aahhhh,,,, beautiful day in the neighborhood.... aaaahh beautiful day in the neighborhood, ,,,wont chu be my.............. neighbor..... ok, all together now..... it's aahhh ........ beautiful day in the neighborhood!! thanks republicans... this is the best thing for the republicans.. i approve big time!!! keep it coming!!
Okay stupidity is contagious with low income people. The liberals are your downfall, they use low income/welfare people and wish to increase this base to further their political agenda and power. U ever worked for any poor people? Capitalism works. You want stimulus abolish the IRS and let people take their full paycheck home and have a flat sales tax not over 18% for the fed/state/local gov't to split and use. Then illegals and tax cheats will have to pay taxes. I'm fed up with the libs.
That was exactly my point. How is a politician's political self-interest any more noble than a private citizen's self-interest? When a beaurocrat relies on other people's money to expand their own power they get treated as heroes, while a private citizen that simply wants to keep more his own money is treated as a greedy cheat.. The political class knows that if people kept more of their own income and govt were limited that does not translate to expanding their own power and influence in DC.
And Milkaheinz, you like the rest of your left-wing base can't come up with anything intelligent to say, so instead you name moronic and untrue acronyms to describe Fox News.
i don't get why people assume that because your progressive, you are also on welfare.
i hope you don't go around saying that out loud, 'cause i assure you, it almost never applies.
what a ridiculous notion; because someone doesn't like fox news, they are automatically unemployable....weird.
i'm sure you're aware that are lots fox news viewers on welfare. i meet plenty of conservatives who recieve some type of government assistance daily. it's confusing. they must hate themselves.
I agree. I hear this all the fucking time. I have worked since I was 14, no kids, have never received any money, food, housing, schooling or other 'handouts' in my life. This is what the right always says (along with the ever stupid koolaid comment). It's ironic that they will then claim to be "Christians" - they should read the bible a bit more and learn what their fearless leader had to say about poverty and the poor in general. Fucking hypocrits to the person.
i'm positive that if jesus christ were alive today, he would not be republican.
i doubt that jesus would choose a political affiliation in the first place, but conservatives act as if they invented jesus- but come to think of it... in a way, i guess they kinda did.
republicans make rich richer, poor poorer, they are pro war that kills many innocent people, and are pro leaving the rich do whatever he wants and THAT IS AGAINST EVERYTHING JESUS STOOD FOR!
Republicans can't MAKE anyone do anything. The rich only get richer if they keep doing things that make them rich, ditto for the poor.
In the bible, God commanded the Israelites to commit acts of genocide, iconoclasm, murder, violence, and so forth. Being "pro-war" doesn't necessarily equate to a desire to mass murder innocent people. Not al Republicans agree on any given issue.
it is wrong to take from the rich... but i do not see an obvious better solution. the rich just get richer, ...*grumble mumble*....
~BUT since the top 1% have *all (*about 90 % right?) the money, .. if they do not spend it then the system fails, correct? they must keep the velocity of money in motion. they would not spend it, so i see no obvious other choice but to tax them. (not a good solution of course, but doing nothing is not better, right?)
So if you admit it is an immoral act to steal from a pivate citizen so that a government beaurocrat can "invest" his earned income into some vote-buying project, why support it simply because you don't know a better way? Why seize more money from businesses and the evil, disgusting, hated rich that provide the knowledge, the entrepreneurial energy, investment capital, and production that drives our economy, not to mention own the very jobs that put paychecks and food on people's tables?
cause it appears to be the only option we have left.
~do nothing, and those who spend will still remain in fear and will not spend. it gives the illusion that the end of the crisis will come soon, and it will be ok to spend/invest money again. or that is the idea... But the red team idea probably works too. (republicans) from what i understand, true free market does tend to fix itself .... i think it was a bad idea to fight over which idea was better for so long...
Doing nothing would only be preferable to the current plan of deficit spending on state infrastructure. If we're going to do the right thing it would start with stopping our elected representatives from finding new ways to relieve the private sector of the very money they need to be providing people with jobs and economic activity. If left alone, people don't just hoard their money, they pursue their self-interests, especially the confidence that you will be keeping more of your own money.
but hasn't that simply left to a shrinking middle class, which further means that the rich have just getting richer over the last 8 years... doesn't seem like it is working either... and they are hoarding their money out of fear, fear which was cause from greedy people taking advantage of the free market especially in the housing industry. i mean, doesn't that all look bad for the current idea of free market as it stands? perhaps some radical changes are necessary atm.
The rich get richer, the poor get richer, the rich sometimes get poorer, and some of the poor stay poor. There's reasons for this. Wealth creation and production should not be demonized and rerided, it shows that others may also create wealth. Who do you think owns the vast majority of jobs? The poor? The middle-class? No, the evil, hated, vile, rich. Do you expect to prospery economically by finding new ways to take more of the money that they would be using to pay you or create new jobs?
Even if people save more of their own money, it stil enters the financial system to create economic activity. The fear-mongering of "oh people are scared and just hoarding their wealth" is a prapagandist's lie to make you believe that politicians spend your money better than you do. Pah! You can't seriously believe that? Some people would sell their liberties so easily for just a few shekels if someone from Washington was telling them it was for their own good.
eh, about that... but doesnt the top 1% have more than 90% of the wealth. kinda makes sense that there are stingy and fearful with thier money. so it just a few (really rich people) who are hoarding their money.
losing liberties? like what? i am not rich lol.
i think i lost more liberties under the Bush anyways. didn't we? but it was so the Gov could protect us better from terrorist threats... which also kinda makes sense... but still....
It doesn't really matter how much wealth the top 1% own in the country, even if that number were true. How much of the GDP does the top 1% produce and compare that with the amount of wealth they own. There's reasons for everything. Unless you obtain your income by theft or fraud (which, coincidentally is exactly what the state does) then who the hell are you to seize it from someone else? They don't owe you a moral right to one penny if you didn't earn it. (That's what we call theft.)
You are right, there isn't any moral ground. I won't bore you with a lecture on social contracts, but there are legitimate constitutional functions of government. May I just offer a suggestion to you, before you vote, next time read the US constitution, and the Federalist papers or some other of our nation's founding documents. Study the causes and cures of the Great Depression and the Recession of 1982. Educate yourselves everyone and give politics and voting some hard thought.
checked out wiki a moment ago, there seems to be a lot of confusion on where the failure happened, that it is uncertain whether it was the free market that failed or the actions of the government.
It comes down to this, are you for someone else planning taking and spending more of your income on their own self-interests (are a politician's self-interests somehow more nobler than people who purse their own economic interest, businesses, and entreprenuers and private citizens? Where are these angelic, noble beneficent politicians that have a right to more of our money?) or do you support free human action? The issue is government or the market, tyranny or liberty. There is no third option!
politicians and corporate leaders are both notably untrustworthy.... guess ill flip a coin next time ... O.o hope you work on that 3rd option, you sound like a smart guy... i'd vote for ya. =D
Of course all humans are untrustworthy. No coin toss necessary. I just fail to see how people that depend on taking other's money from them to expand their self-interests are seen as champions of the poor, while people who simply want to keep more of their own money are seen as selfish, greedy, corrupt cheaters. Why is it illegal for private citizens to egage in fraud and theft, but totally legal for the government to? Why don't we hold them to the same standards?
Post of the day. Read the bible then you see Jesus telling the rich to give their money to the poor and teaches people to stop going to other wars and turn the other chick.
corporations are NOT hiring more people than they need. that would obviously effect their their bottom line.
a company's responsibility is to earn money for it's shareholders, not the other way around.
considering this, how is one supposed to believe that if say McDonalds, or Walmart had more money , that they would (a) hire more people or (b) offer their workers a fair living wage and full-time hours?
oh yah, their workers are poor and uneducated anyways- who cares, duuh.
You are right, a company's number one priority is to make a profit. Period. I'm sure what you're saying after that. Their workers are poor and uneducated? So raising taxes drastically or seizing revenue from these specific two corporations, would either force them to move overseas, or guarantee that more workers with marginal skills remain unemployable. Not sure what you're getting at.
I feel bad for Piyush Jindal. Its like going up against Franklin Delano Roosevelt....what the heck can you say in response to a man who has give us the greatest presidential speech since John F. Kennedy?
Jindal hit on all the wrong talking points. Americans don't care about Social Security right now, thats an issue that will be important in 2040 but not right now. The old GOP talking points don't matter anymore, they've all been overtaken by the economic problems we face NOW.
Republicans (& their Wall St masters) have been trying to end Social Security since its inception. It kills them that a gov't program actually succeeds (reducing poverty in those among the elderly who'd be destitute w.o SS) -- & does so where the vaunted "market" has always failed.
Now they want to "reform" it by "privatizing" it -- when we've just seen the stock mkt drop over 30% in 6 months!
Maddow is hilarious. So true, for a repugnicant to point to the Katrina as a beacon of government efficiency is laughable.. Mr. Jindal is pretty good at talking out of his ass!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
where is the outrage regarding the term "outsourced" when talking about Jindal? It was purely racist. When the word lynch and a Obama are anywhere in the same time zone Al Sharpton is right in there calling for justice.
Want an apology for this, get Jindal to apologize for Harry Lee, the actual racist here: "In the wake of Katrina, Lee grabbed national headlines by suggesting his deputies could randomly stop blacks to combat a rise in drug crimes caused by the displacement of low-income New Orleans residents."
Not to mention his comments about just going to black neighborhoods "where the crime is" and ordering his force to arbitrarily stop young blacks in rinky-dink cars driving in white neighborhoods."
Brilliant. Any vaguely negative word, even more vaguely associated with India in the mind of some wingnut moron, used in reference to Jindal, is evidence of RACISM. It's interesting to note the wingnut mind at work- he apparently can't conceive of any reason to oppose outsourcing other than racist hatred of Indians.
Cmon - it was a joke. Besides, India is a country, not a race. Also, using the word "outsourced" is not saying anything bad about Jindal's race. Can't anyone tell the difference any more between noticing someone's ethnicity and saying or implying something negative about it?? Outsourcing to India is a continuing trend. Congress outsourced the speech to an Indian. It's called humor.
I have to say, Jindal was talking to our nation as if we were little children listening to a bedtime story. He put on a fake accent, got folksy and told some tall tales. We just had 8 years of that. God bless the Republicans if they run him. For America's sake, I hope they do.
40% negative for McCain, 40% negative for Obama during the elcetion, says the Pew Research Center. Fox being Fair and Balanced is a statistical fact whether you want to believe it or not.
And the fact that Maddow pretends to spout fragmented words out of her mouth in an attempt at levity shows why Fox News kicks the "you know what" out of MSNBC in the ratings night after night after night.
I'm always amazed when popularity is "re-packaged" as competence or morality as if we were talking about which football teams have the loudest fans. I guess t's no wonder why we are giving away billions in tax benefits to sports franchises while we gut spending on higher education.

i thought of an idea, what about making all transactions transparent and begin tracking them? like having some super computer to track all transactions.
REZJT 2 years ago
Koutetsu 2 years ago
what i am saying is i do not care which approach we take, i do not care about red team or blue team. if one has ideas, lets try em... i do not care if i lose liberties "for my safety"
or if i do not make fortunes of cash. just wondering if there is a better system or way to make it better. i try to be open to ideas, doesnt matter if they are labeled red or blue.

chris matthews is probably mad because his ratings tanked since the election.
many of the people who voted for obama voted for him out of shear bias! they could care less what he does in office.
that's why the ratings of cnn, abc, and cbs, msnbc suck now.
obama zombies just wanted to be updated when the election was in question. now that it's over they could care less.
lol, that's what happens when you zero in on getting the stupid vote!!!

I'm fed up with the libs.
king1crim5 2 years ago
ur funny.
have you ever considered that the conservative overclass uses people like YOU to further THEIR "politcal agenda and power?"
there are millions of conservative republicans making very low incomes.
you might be on to something about that stupidity being contagious thing. you're a pretty good example.
gigiopaq 2 years ago
That was exactly my point. How is a politician's political self-interest any more noble than a private citizen's self-interest? When a beaurocrat relies on other people's money to expand their own power they get treated as heroes, while a private citizen that simply wants to keep more his own money is treated as a greedy cheat.. The political class knows that if people kept more of their own income and govt were limited that does not translate to expanding their own power and influence in DC.

i don't get why people assume that because your progressive, you are also on welfare.
i hope you don't go around saying that out loud, 'cause i assure you, it almost never applies.
what a ridiculous notion; because someone doesn't like fox news, they are automatically unemployable....weird.
i'm sure you're aware that are lots fox news viewers on welfare. i meet plenty of conservatives who recieve some type of government assistance daily. it's confusing. they must hate themselves.

Fucking hypocrits to the person.

yeah, i compleeetly agree.
i'm positive that if jesus christ were alive today, he would not be republican.
i doubt that jesus would choose a political affiliation in the first place, but conservatives act as if they invented jesus- but come to think of it... in a way, i guess they kinda did.

republicans make rich richer, poor poorer, they are pro war that kills many innocent people, and are pro leaving the rich do whatever he wants and THAT IS AGAINST EVERYTHING JESUS STOOD FOR!
asefati 2 years ago
Republicans can't MAKE anyone do anything. The rich only get richer if they keep doing things that make them rich, ditto for the poor.
In the bible, God commanded the Israelites to commit acts of genocide, iconoclasm, murder, violence, and so forth. Being "pro-war" doesn't necessarily equate to a desire to mass murder innocent people. Not al Republicans agree on any given issue.
Educate yourself, you drone.
Koutetsu 2 years ago
it is wrong to take from the rich... but i do not see an obvious better solution. the rich just get richer, ...*grumble mumble*....
REZJT 2 years ago
So if you admit it is an immoral act to steal from a pivate citizen so that a government beaurocrat can "invest" his earned income into some vote-buying project, why support it simply because you don't know a better way? Why seize more money from businesses and the evil, disgusting, hated rich that provide the knowledge, the entrepreneurial energy, investment capital, and production that drives our economy, not to mention own the very jobs that put paychecks and food on people's tables?
Koutetsu 2 years ago
cause it appears to be the only option we have left.
REZJT 2 years ago
Doing nothing would only be preferable to the current plan of deficit spending on state infrastructure. If we're going to do the right thing it would start with stopping our elected representatives from finding new ways to relieve the private sector of the very money they need to be providing people with jobs and economic activity. If left alone, people don't just hoard their money, they pursue their self-interests, especially the confidence that you will be keeping more of your own money.
Koutetsu 2 years ago
but hasn't that simply left to a shrinking middle class, which further means that the rich have just getting richer over the last 8 years... doesn't seem like it is working either... and they are hoarding their money out of fear, fear which was cause from greedy people taking advantage of the free market especially in the housing industry. i mean, doesn't that all look bad for the current idea of free market as it stands? perhaps some radical changes are necessary atm.
REZJT 2 years ago
The rich get richer, the poor get richer, the rich sometimes get poorer, and some of the poor stay poor. There's reasons for this. Wealth creation and production should not be demonized and rerided, it shows that others may also create wealth. Who do you think owns the vast majority of jobs? The poor? The middle-class? No, the evil, hated, vile, rich. Do you expect to prospery economically by finding new ways to take more of the money that they would be using to pay you or create new jobs?
Koutetsu 2 years ago
Even if people save more of their own money, it stil enters the financial system to create economic activity. The fear-mongering of "oh people are scared and just hoarding their wealth" is a prapagandist's lie to make you believe that politicians spend your money better than you do. Pah! You can't seriously believe that? Some people would sell their liberties so easily for just a few shekels if someone from Washington was telling them it was for their own good.
Koutetsu 2 years ago
people are scared and hoarding their wealth"
eh, about that... but doesnt the top 1% have more than 90% of the wealth. kinda makes sense that there are stingy and fearful with thier money. so it just a few (really rich people) who are hoarding their money.
losing liberties? like what? i am not rich lol.
i think i lost more liberties under the Bush anyways. didn't we? but it was so the Gov could protect us better from terrorist threats... which also kinda makes sense... but still....
REZJT 2 years ago
It doesn't really matter how much wealth the top 1% own in the country, even if that number were true. How much of the GDP does the top 1% produce and compare that with the amount of wealth they own. There's reasons for everything. Unless you obtain your income by theft or fraud (which, coincidentally is exactly what the state does) then who the hell are you to seize it from someone else? They don't owe you a moral right to one penny if you didn't earn it. (That's what we call theft.)
Koutetsu 2 years ago
i don't know why the gov. takes peoples money. they think they can do it better i guess.
sucks that they don't really have any moral ground to do it, but that doesn't stop them from doing so. O.o
~i guess the american people are ok with the gov taking peoples money cause that just what it does anyways...
REZJT 2 years ago
You are right, there isn't any moral ground. I won't bore you with a lecture on social contracts, but there are legitimate constitutional functions of government. May I just offer a suggestion to you, before you vote, next time read the US constitution, and the Federalist papers or some other of our nation's founding documents. Study the causes and cures of the Great Depression and the Recession of 1982. Educate yourselves everyone and give politics and voting some hard thought.

Koutetsu 2 years ago
politicians and corporate leaders are both notably untrustworthy.... guess ill flip a coin next time ... O.o hope you work on that 3rd option, you sound like a smart guy... i'd vote for ya. =D
REZJT 2 years ago
Of course all humans are untrustworthy. No coin toss necessary. I just fail to see how people that depend on taking other's money from them to expand their self-interests are seen as champions of the poor, while people who simply want to keep more of their own money are seen as selfish, greedy, corrupt cheaters. Why is it illegal for private citizens to egage in fraud and theft, but totally legal for the government to? Why don't we hold them to the same standards?
Koutetsu 2 years ago
Post of the day. Read the bible then you see Jesus telling the rich to give their money to the poor and teaches people to stop going to other wars and turn the other chick.

corporations are NOT hiring more people than they need. that would obviously effect their their bottom line.
a company's responsibility is to earn money for it's shareholders, not the other way around.
considering this, how is one supposed to believe that if say McDonalds, or Walmart had more money , that they would (a) hire more people or (b) offer their workers a fair living wage and full-time hours?
oh yah, their workers are poor and uneducated anyways- who cares, duuh.
gigiopaq 2 years ago

SSI is an issue for me. I sure as hell don't like paying taxes for something i'll never benefit from.
thejugg420 2 years ago
Republicans (& their Wall St masters) have been trying to end Social Security since its inception. It kills them that a gov't program actually succeeds (reducing poverty in those among the elderly who'd be destitute w.o SS) -- & does so where the vaunted "market" has always failed.
Now they want to "reform" it by "privatizing" it -- when we've just seen the stock mkt drop over 30% in 6 months!
Sorry Rethugs -- nobody's buying your scams now.

where is the outrage regarding the term "outsourced" when talking about Jindal? It was purely racist. When the word lynch and a Obama are anywhere in the same time zone Al Sharpton is right in there calling for justice.
We are all waiting the the apology........
fredsanford80 2 years ago
Want an apology for this, get Jindal to apologize for Harry Lee, the actual racist here: "In the wake of Katrina, Lee grabbed national headlines by suggesting his deputies could randomly stop blacks to combat a rise in drug crimes caused by the displacement of low-income New Orleans residents."
Not to mention his comments about just going to black neighborhoods "where the crime is" and ordering his force to arbitrarily stop young blacks in rinky-dink cars driving in white neighborhoods."
PhoTC 2 years ago 3
Brilliant. Any vaguely negative word, even more vaguely associated with India in the mind of some wingnut moron, used in reference to Jindal, is evidence of RACISM. It's interesting to note the wingnut mind at work- he apparently can't conceive of any reason to oppose outsourcing other than racist hatred of Indians.
pdxdrum 2 years ago
Cmon - it was a joke. Besides, India is a country, not a race. Also, using the word "outsourced" is not saying anything bad about Jindal's race. Can't anyone tell the difference any more between noticing someone's ethnicity and saying or implying something negative about it?? Outsourcing to India is a continuing trend. Congress outsourced the speech to an Indian. It's called humor.
Maargen 2 years ago
