  • Still got it Tony ;-)

  • Are you sure you're not from the Bay Area Cali? Cuz that's how we got down back in the day. Except we called it Strutting. Popping came later as far as the term used.

  • Ultra COOL Tony! LOVE the Bobby Byrd track, can't get enough of that song! Cool vid man!

  • ur daughter calls you grandpa?

  • @SoDamnGangsta - No... it's an act that we put together. The idea was supposed to be the grand daughter coming in to see grandpa dancing and tells him "Sit Down grandpa, you don't want to catch a heart attack"... something like that. See... this is how my grandfather used to look.... so the people in my family when they see this video they'll understand the idea. Its kind of difficult to explain.

  • @avp0713 lol i think i get it, youre a good dancer kinda reminds me of my dad!

  • Noooow you're talkin ma language, Tony Tone !! QQn @ u I must say that I can't judge a book by its cover. You don't eeeeven QQ like you have those lockin skills. Im impressed !!! : )))

  • The absolute BEST video on ALL of youtube! Tony is the coolest! We were all attempting to do thi sstuff out here in Los Angeles in the EARLY '80's - places like Galaxy ( now torn down) and that disco from the movie "Thank God It's Friday" ( now torn down and replaced by a Loehmanns) - Anyone remember the name ? Near Beverly Center- anyway--We were ALL trying to get it down in '81-'84 (before MTV destroyed ALL youth culture)but TONY you NAIL it! HEROIC.

  • Thanks man. .. I put this video up cause I started seeing other "locking" video's and hadn't realized that people were still interested in locking.... it had died out for a while in the 80's, when hustling came in big.

  • OOOOMGGGG :D dude your killing it!!!! :D Really good!!! Awsome videos man :)

  • haha thats ace

  • I am sixteen years of age and just started locking and I fell in love with..the old school one not the technical one..I realized that for me its hard to lock without smiling..it's just a dance that makes me happy even if I'm not trying to be...I really respect you for this..keep it up...thank You

  • Hey MAN!!!

You did the damn thing! You are excellent!!! And you got every move down packed! Peace! Thanks for the memories!

  • Man, oh, Man! I knew about popping and locking, but now, i want to learn to do it, just from having watched you. Great moves, fah real!!

  • Look for Skeeter Rabbit Locking Tutorial here on YouTube. . . I find that he has the correct soul feeling to all of his steps. Also SugaPop locking tutorials... real old school guys that have been popping since the 70's (like me!). Alot of people don't remember that the original feel when locking was one of intentional silly exaggeration, it was never meant to be a "cool-breeze" type of dance. And only certain types could pull it off. Thats why you don't see every dancer on SoulTrain Locking

  • Now that's funky.. big respect to you man. I'm 17 now and only picked up locking a couple of months ago, sooo much respect to the 70s OG lockers. I only wish I was there at the start! Oh well, I hope to contribute to taking locking to the next level now ;)

    Big up from Holland!

  • good poppin but it's clearly you prefer lockin:)

  • yes, you're right. . . I was locking as a youngster in the 70's, but when popping started to get big, I was into "hustling" because they were doing that in all best clubs in NYC. You could only do poppin at hardcore neighborhood clubs like "The Fever" in the Bronx.

  • and would really like to understand you....you see I wasn't even born in the 70's and I don't live in the US...but's it's good to know these things aobut old school dances and the way people partyed back then. you might think that as a youngster I ain't into poppin and lockin but they are my favorite styles:)

  • very cool! congratulations u keep it funky! very good locking trailer...

  • aaaahhhhhhhhh man you did your thing in that one bro dance is timeless you need to go show these youngbucks how its done

  • coooooooooooooooooooool

  • That's quality. Moves well for a big man

  • Take five homie...Yeah! Old school lockin' is still the sh*t. loved it. You got me wantin' to set up the camera...ah sh*t.

  • CLASS....What a groover :)

  • hey bro! what did your daughter say to sit you down on this video? Bentleys in the house by the way! lol

  • She said "That's enough Grandpa, we all KNOW you got soul". This was the first video that I made so we didn't have any signals set up yet to stop videotaping when I got tired. The original idea of the video was supposed to be the image of an old grandpa sitting down chillin' out with his newspaper, and then when the beat kicks in, ole' grandpa starts breakin it down. Its funnier to me because my kids never saw my grandpa so they don't really get the irony of it.

  • I miss those Bentleys day when we went out to dance and chill, not you get high and fight/shoot, feel me? we just partied all night! anyway! I love your videos man!

  • absolutely...never had 1 negative event at Bentleys or Leviticus, or Pegasus, the DownUnder, Marcos, Justines... but I did hear some bullets at Encores (Jamaica) once. But normally, just chill, dance with the ladies, get your drink on, then go home and knock the boots..... IF, that's IF you were lucky.

  • I never had a problem at Encore bro! I loved Bentleys, Bonds International,Palladium, Silver Shadows,The Tunnel,Zanzibar! dats whasup! no fights! Just party and chill with The Ladies after!

  • lol that dog in the background just watchs like hes use to it lol (dogs thoughts: not this again im going to copyright dog earmuffs)

  • Yo, that little doggie knows wassup! She knows not to get in the way when I start lockin'

  • that's old school.....Hey tony thanks for the post....always keep bangin...way to keep poppin alive...(Poppin Chee)....

  • Yeah!

  • wow, man u fuckin rulezz!

  • funny !!! :D:D:D use more whirl wrists on your locking. FUN ! :D and teach the little girl some locking ! :D

  • JAMES BROWN EAT YOUR HEART OUT!!

  • That's a funny video man. You got some move on ya too !.

  • You represent Bentley's to the fullest man! you still got it man

  • When I get the flow again, I'm gonna make another set of videos... with some other nice cuts from the 80's.

  • Bet! you can still do the damn thang man, you still got it Ton!

  • There you are again bussin it in front of the kids!

Tony you still got the dark mooves!

    I salute you sir

  • lol.. I'm Italian & Black and grew up in the 1960's Bronx, NY where you had to be able to break it down PROPA LIKE!! holla!

  • 10 of out 10 for entertainment. Some slick moves right there!

  • Cool. I enjoyed. Did you lock back in the days?

  • Yes, Started locking right about 1972, basically after seeing it on SoulTrain, but then stopped because it went out of style... i mean, locking at local parties was fine but you can't go to a club and start locking on the dance floor... no, that's not cool at all. So during the disco era nobody was locking at all. I only did the video after seeing other people's videos and realizing kind of a resurgence...

  • The locking resurgeance started in the mid-90s. You should try and get to an event called 'B-boy Summit', which takes place every year, in Southern California (I forget which part, but check their website if you're interested). Loads of guys from the 70s go to it.

  • I think I'm going to get out there this year, I'm sure it's funky as hell!!

  • yo go tony will you be in my video !!

  • Anytime Heather! Just tell me when.. .

  • "that's enough grandpa, we already KNOW you got soul..."

  • off the hook keep it up you got soul

  • HAHAHAHAHAHahahahahahhaahahahaAHHahahahahhahahhaHAAHhhahahhahahhhah HAHahahhahahaahhahahhahaahhahha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I knew you'd like that...!! :) You know I can work it out..... wait till I do my next set of videos....

  • Made my day!!!

  • You made me happy!!!! What a great song by Bobby Byrd. Your dancing is so fantastic and fun. MORE!!

  • ENCORE...

  • oh yeh 1 more thing, how long did it take u to be able to freestyle the moves all together? ive picked it up alot quiker than popping anyway.

  • I do it instinctively now, but lately since I've been seeing so many locking videos, I've picked up a few more moves; Now I try to do each move for 4 or 8 beats and during those 4 or 8 beats I think of the next move I'm going to do.

  • I love the theatrics. Cool contrasting elements that precede the funk. I think this one is my favorite.

  • thanks that was raw please check me out.

  • Okay, I have to comment to. What you do is so inspiring. after seeing you dance I just wan't to do it myself. Keep on lockin and being young!

  • Geez... I saw your videos too!!! You can learn Locking easy... search for skeeter rabbit locking tutorial you'll learn it in no time... learn it secretly, then at the next party, break out with some locking... your friends will be floored!

  • I ain't mad at cha! That is what I call putting it down:)

You're welcome at any cookout I'm attending!

  • Thanks, I'm curious as to how you came upon my video. Hopefully you checked my other videos. I love music, dancing, and performance.

  • My family and I was looking at Soul Train this past weekend and saw an older clip of Joe Tex performing and Damita Jo Freeman putting it down onstage beside him. After finding a couple of her videos, I ran across yours.

    Keep it funky!

  • I remember that Soul Train episode... Damita puts her leg up and plays it like a guitar!! Anyway, this video (mine) was done on the spur of the moment with my kids helping out...the next few that I do, I'm going to try to organize my steps a bit more because at my age, I can really only go all out for about 3 minutes... after that, i'll be relegated to doing the "two step" .. 2 to the left, 2 to the right

  • The move must have been one of her trademark moves since she was doing the same thing while dancing on stage with James Brown.

She clearly had James and the Famous Flames in a trance.

James even looked back at the band a couple of times with a "did you see that?" look:)

  • FUNKANDSOUL!!!

    Man bro YOU ROCKED THAT!!!

    Keep it funkAYE!!!

    ~funkAYE

  • Yoooo!!! Rondie checking in from the BK! Glad you liked the video, you know me pretty well so you realize this is from my soul, the music, the comedy, the family orientation of the video.. keep up the good work with savejamaica.c0m, give love and kisses to your new baby.
