There are areas where shooting a Sasquatch is a very serious crime. The reason for that is simple. If someone goes out and shoots what he thinks is a Bigfoot, there is a non-trivial chance that he will be blasting some redneck in a Chewbacca costume.
Also, a good half of the "Bigfoot Community" are against killing them anyway, because they think the creatures are close enough to be human, that it would be like murder but with more hair.
